Sailfish OS update from Jolla
Just a week ago we reported from Salo that we are work day’n’night to get the devices ready for all those coming to pick up their new Jolla Phone in the Day1 celebration event
. We got devices ready, tested and packaged in time.
Then came Wednesday, a lot of preparation were needed before the Jolla Phone launch. Already when the queue started forming up, we knew that we and you will make this! What an incredible Jolla Phone launch we had!
You made this possible!
It was an absolute joy to welcome you, Sailfish community, to the Jolla Phone Day1 event in Helsinki and celebrate this milestone together. This event wasn’t just about a new phone — it was about the people who have supported, encouraged, and helped to realize & shape the Jolla Phone every step of the way.
One of the most memorable moments was handing over the very first Jolla Phones to their new owners. Sharing that excitement with our community and seeing your enthusiasm and unwavering support made the occasion truly unforgettable.
The early supporters received the limited Special Edition Back Cover (Other Half) – it’s called Inari Blue. You have been asking do I also receive it if I belong to Batch #2, yes you do. The Special Edition Back Cover will be delivered for Batch #1, #2 and #3 early supporters i.e. first 10K pre-orderers. It’s an actual The Other Half (ToH) not just a back cover. Once the special ToH is attached, the Jolla logo starts breathing so there are programmable LEDs. The Special Edition ToH will be open like any ToHs. Let’s figure out together something nice with LEDs of the Inari Blue.
Along with the Inari Blue we also published The Ringtone Project ringtones to Jolla Store. Those are available in Jolla Store under Jolla category as Jolla Ringtone Project (initially for Jolla Phone). Nice hear that you, Sailfish Community, appreciate that we care things like this.
Roadshow and next steps
We have been talking every now and then about the Jolla Phone Roadshow. The Jolla Phone Day1 in Helsinki July 8 was the first one. Other days & venues are still open and help will be needed - a bit of call-to-action here for the community: let’s organise a local Jolla Phone Roadshow events at least in the cities noted in the T-shirt.
The schedule is very open and it may well be spread for the whole rest of the year. Let’s figure out the dates & suitable venues together with local community members (note: order of the events are not carved into a stone). Or if you’ve have some other event in your town mind, this could be a connected event in a venue close-by.
We’ll start organising the events in early August - meanwhile, please keep thinking and discussing the topic for example in this post comments.
The Jolla Ensemble band
After the official special speeches Jolla Ensemble band entertained us all. And oh boy, they did it well.
The band composition
Riki Murto - guitar
Harri Kentala - drums
Elna Romberg - singer (Kaamos Black)
Lauri Schreck - kantele / singer
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who joined us and made the Jolla Phone Day1 event such a success. This was your celebration as much as it was ours, and we’re so excited for what comes next. ![]()
Edit: first Batch #1 shipments starts to go out next week.
Edit2: please, did you realise this from the Welcome Card?
Photos by Joshua Strobl – big thanks!

Jolla Phone Day1 event feelings by community
Wednesday was the big day. Jolla Phone Day1. Finally, the hard work of the developers at Jolla, and the long wait of the community members paid off. Jolla Phone is here!
In the event announcements it had been stated that the doors were supposed to open at 18:00, but there there was a hint that it would be fine to arrive a bit early at Narinkkatori. And people did! There was a queue of substantial length already half past five, and at six the line was all the way to the other side:
Finally, maybe a few minutes past six, they started letting people in. Everyone received a badge with their order ID and a ticket bracelet. They asked the order ID at the front door, and when you got up to the actual venue, your order was already there waiting for you.
At first it felt like the line wasn’t moving at all, but in the end everyone got in and received their phones. It was maybe half past seven when the real show began. The host of the evening was no one else but @antti360, the composer behind the new ringtones.
At first we heard speeches from some key persons. If you were wondering how long it took before Sami delivered his trademark phrase “That’s how it goes” - it wasn’t long. After Sami it was time to give the stage to Peri Fractic, the President and CEO of Commodore. He told the story behind the deal between Jolla and Commodore, which announced their Sailfish powered Commodore Callback phone a few weeks ago.
After the opening speeches we got to see the world premiere of the Jolla Film, a short film telling the story of the Jolla Phone. And it was followed by Antti and Sami giving us a glimpse of the roadmap ahead. Interesting times!
We received our special Inari Blue TOHs, and the band entered the stage. We got to listen to the songs - not just the ringtones but the full songs, played live by the band. And we got to witness the incredible Lauri Schreck playing Thunderstruck on kantele, now how awesome was that?
Pebble and Whisperfish
To pass the time up to the Jolla Phone release party, @rubdos and new community member @JPlexer (welcome JP!) spent the morning hacking.
The result is a new release of Whisperfish 0.6.0-beta.42, the native SailfishOS Signal client.
(It was also fun watching @rubdos checking the progress of the compile while waiting in the release party queue!)
You can read all about the exciting new features and fixed issues in the release announcement post, but probably the most interesting is that linking and registration has been fixed (yay!).
They also collaboratively created a Jolla PhoneDay themed watchface for Pebble smartwatches. If you own one of these devices be sure to check it out and celebrate the new Jolla Phone on your wrist!
Live Teardown and iFixIt Guide of the Jolla Phone 2026
One of the unplanned attractions at the launch party was the on-site teardown and reassembly of the new Jolla Phone. @frengel immediately after unpacking his new phone took to screwdrivers and disassembled the phone, documenting the process.
This activity attracted quite some spectators, from guests and Sailors alike.
Spoiler: In the end, it was complete again, and strangely, no screws were left over.
@frengel published the process over at iFixIt so check it out!
