Roadshow location scouting: Vienna

From all the cities written on the T-Shirt, Vienna is the nearest one for me. I don’t have any knowledge about suitable event locations in Vienna, but some months ago I visited an event held here:

Ottakringer is the largest brewery in Vienna. Their event location is directly within the premises of the brewery itself, which not only means that their entire range of products is available at each bar in every event hall, but also that they surely won’t run out of supplies. :clinking_beer_mugs:

For me too. I hope I can join.

Wien- Hope I’ll be there too. No claims to any kind of competence at organizing festivities, however if there’s some way I might be helpful feel free to approach me.
Huge number of options in one of the worlds buzzing congress cities- might even use the Hofburg (former imperial residence).

Let’s stay realistic
Would the WUK be an option? That would be closer to the target group.

Could be an option. But as I guess the event is supposed to be more than 10 jerks assembling at some restaurant/café/winery(!), some event agency will take care of that.

I might be mistaken but Jolla’s budget is probably modest. The WUK has an event location for up to 550 people (standing), not sure if it’s an option but I’d feel like it would be a fitting place for Jolla. Same goes for the Ottakringer brewery.

Would be cool to join a few of them around. I’ll try to find some more travel money!

Might as well get an olympic stadium just in case

Sargfabrik? A bit smaller… on the upside, it’s orange!

I will make the long trip if there is one held at Croke Park  or just at The Black Forge…

Sargfabrik also offers a Sauna! Wonder how that could be included in the event.
Somewhat similar there’s also the Brotfabrik.
As a thought approach, is it Wien inviting the Jolla crew, (something like maybe Rathauskeller or one of the many Wineries); or should it have a finnish touch (Hemma Wien, or ask Ihana if they do catering).
First question in any case is the size of the event, are we talking about 50, 150, 350 or 800?

Almost completely unrelated, I’m utterly puzzled by the mix of local (Wien) and anglicised (Prague, Warsaw, Copenhagen) names on the Roadshow t-shirt

Or, you know to keep with the theme:

Indeed, this could get very interesting! Maybe @Jolla gives us a hands-on tutorial about “How to Sauna the Finnish way” before or after (or during :upside_down_face:) their Phone and Sailfish OS presentations.

Also a really cool idea! :+1:

Hmm, both ways have their charming points. Difficult to decide.

Update from last Community Meeting, see below.

WE don’t need a big venue, rather the plan is to paricipate on something existing, or make a smaller event.

Quoting from Meeting

16:57:16 #topic Guidance for Jolla Phone Roadshow location scouting (5mins – asked by nephros)
16:57:16 #info The latest Community News ( Sailfish Community News, July 10,
16:57:16 #info 2026 - Jolla Phone Day1) states that there are more events
16:57:16 #info like JollaPhoneDay1 planned, with a call to community to help
16:57:16 #info with organizing them.
16:57:17 #info Please specify briefly what the characteristics of such event
16:57:19 #info locations should be. How many people should the venue hold,
16:57:21 #info what are infrastructure requirements, do you want a local
16:57:25 #info event organizing firm or do you have your own, …
16:57:27 #info
16:57:29 #info An approximate Budget for renting a venue would also be very
16:57:31 #info helpful - understandable if we won’t get that info from
16:57:33 #info you
16:57:35 #link Sailfish Community News, July 10, 2026 - Jolla Phone Day1 - #33
16:57:38 #info Thanks for asking. Did we said that that Jolla Phone Day1 like
16:57:40 #info events? If so that is a mistake. Hmm, more like Jolla Phone
16:57:42 #info roadshow not really launch party which happens to be the first
16:57:44 #info event. Events should be lighter than Day1 event otherwise it
16:57:46 #info gets too heavy to organize. More like usual Community events
16:57:48 #info with Jolla Phone roadshow twist. For example, no need for
16:57:50 #info streaming, food can be self ordered, not necessarily need for
16:57:54 #info drink / snack tickets, etc. Something reachable where people can
16:57:56 #info easily join and discuss with each other and share ideas.
16:59:21 I’m sure you’d do incredibly well in the Turkish market if there weren’t so many taxes.
16:59:22 Maybe I was reading too much into it because JPD1 was awesome!
16:59:37 <CLMA31[m]> Just so that everyone gets the picture right, would it be best to organize these roadshow in some kind of restaurant setup where there is cabinet or similar booked for the event? Something like Jolla held in Plevna year ago
17:00:06 CLMA31[m], exactly like Plevna at Tampere last year
17:00:09 <CLMA31[m]> CLMA31[m]: Minus the streaming part
17:00:13 +1
17:00:32 and still we’d need help from the community to figure out venue etc
17:00:48 The descriptions make me think of things like Small tech-oriented fairs where you can have a booth and maybe a speaker slot.
17:00:49 we can bring rollups, swag, etc
17:01:14 some may have speaker slots
17:01:36 <CLMA31[m]> It would be cool to have roadshow event in Finland also! Maybe at the end of roadshows when Jolla has gone around the Europe first?
17:01:46 or even connected to some other event ← please let your ideas to flourish
17:02:11 CLMA31[m], let’s considered but we already had a big launch event
17:02:18 I think you should reach out to local tech content creators when organizing the roadshow. That way, word will spread among the local community much faster.
17:02:37 Also, maybe in larger Hackerspace/Makerspace/LUG organization.
17:02:45 <CLMA31[m]> Polatbirdal: +1
17:03:06 <CLMA31[m]> rainemak: Very understandable, I just missed it and it was so blast in Plevna year ago
17:03:09 Polatbirdal, you mean, you should reach == we should reach as Sailfish Community
17:03:12 <CLMA31[m]> No pressure
17:03:52 we need help in organizing those events
17:04:49 nephros and others, do you think that you have the idea clear / clearer now?
17:05:03 What I meant was letting the tech content creators in that country know, so they can see that you’re coming and be aware of it. Maybe we can do that too =) You never know—one thing can lead to a thousand more.
17:05:27 Yes! (A bit disappointing! I wanted another 5 or so JPD1 parties!)
17:05:38 Hehe!
17:05:47 But yeah, I guess everything is clear now.
17:05:53 Lets get scouting.
17:05:57 +1
17:06:00
17:06:01 we don’t have that kind of budged yet
17:06:13 So any Jolla Sailors get sea-sick easily?
17:06:35 I meant “Do any…”?
17:06:56 and organizing Jolla Phone Day1 / launch event takes like in min a month but up to 3months from calendar
17:07:21 nephros, that’s not a sickness that we carry
17:07:56 This is covered

Maybe we should start with venue that can host 30 people.

Or better yet make a voting how many should come.

We should also collect events which may be interesting to participate in.

Like small conventions/conference type things like Linuxtage or so.

We could then do a “social”/community thing on one day, and the event on the next one.

Is there any in July or August?

Edit: I did hoped that I got mine before September.

Not Vienna but Graz - also in spring 2027

Would be cool if we had something like a Community Meeting or even booth there.

I’m not sure if this fits in with your ideas, and is the order on the T-shirt set in stone?
Here are a few links which, in my personal opinion, meet the requirements.

https://dev.events/EU/DE/oss

As an option, we could include the planned event.

What is the time frame in mind, not this year anymore?

Also it would be great if goodies and Jolla Phone accessories would be for sale there, unless that makes things unnecessarily complicated.

PS: I would not mind visiting Graz, Klimaticket sei dank
