Sailfish OS update from Jolla

Fortnight newsletter once again. This week we have Harbour news update from @vige. Repository roundup didn’t make to this newsletter but that just means that there will be more content next time. Have a cup of coffee or tea and enjoy!

Sailfish OS update

We published Sailfish OS 5.1 to Early Access yesterday. The release is called Pispala, one could draw a connection from the 4.6 release (Sauna) as around time of 5.0 we shared a photo from Rajaportin sauna. That very sauna is located at Pispala.

Please, follow the space requirement guidelines from the release notes (those are mentioned also at the update description). AppSupport Bluetooth is still considered beta and you’ll find it from Jolla Store as AppSupport Bluetooth (beta) after installing Sailfish OS 5.1 update. Try out your bluetooth gadgets and let us know how it went in this separate feedback thread.

This is the first release in the long awaited Sailfish OS 5.1.0 series. Many thanks to you our active contributors for your feedback and proposals. Known issues Update size check There was issues with the update installation required disk space check. We made a fix for that and published it in Sailfish 5.0.0.78 hotfix release. You should install that first. If you are on 5.0.0.77 and it already offers you 5.1.0.7, check again for updates from the pulley menu and it should give you the correct …

Next up, we’ll continue focusing to Jolla Phone and delivering it. That would be Sailfish OS 5.2 based.

Some of you have been asking whether Sailfish Browser gets update to Gecko ESR115 along with Sailfish OS 5.1. That won’t happen as we are close to Sailfish OS 5.2 already. Target for ESR115 is the Sailfish OS 5.2 release.

TOH Update

Last week we published the initial The Other Half (TOH) specification. We’ll keep working on it and post updated information to the TOH spec topic. Keep Calm and Hack On!

Jolla Phone update - The Other Half spec

Tarkka

Tarkka, the digital magnifying glass, has been updated to version 0.5.3. This looks like mostly bugfix release: The aspect ration an tall devices (e.g. Xperia 10 III) has been fixed and translations not loading has been fixed. There is also new logic for finding the best ratio for the camera, and Norwegian bokmål translation.

SFOS Forum Viewer

The native viewer for our forum was updated to version 1.14.6. The app now marks self-bumped threads as seen, rather than untracked. Also, Norwegian translation was added.

Teletext

Teletext is an app for displaying teletext pages on a Sailfish device. The latest version 0.4.0 brings support for Italian Televideo, along with Italian and English translations. The UI was adapted to allow the notch in some devices. The not-so-good news is that support for MTV was removed as the service was discontinued.

Badge Magic

Magic Badge companion app received update to version 0.4.0. With the update you get a preview, and you can change the color of the preview.

Sailcord

Sailcord, an unofficial Discord client, was updated to version 0.10.0. Despite the relatively small change in the version number, there are plenty of new features: Mentions (@username, @everyone@here, #channel) , GIFs, Link Previews, Attachments in DMs and Much More. Opal.Tabs was updated which should improve performance when switching tabs in classic mode. And then there are of course bug fixes and improvements.

Mastodon client was updated to version 1.3.6. Here’s the changelog:

Xperia 10 here, from 5.0.0.77 to new system.
Download went fine (700MB), installation needed long time (white bar on screen proceeding slowly), now hangs at the end since 10 minutes.
Will wait additionally 20 minutes and then force reboot if necessary.

edit: I was unpatient and rebooted after 5 minutes. Device works fine. My tweaks are gone, as expected (so no problem, will make them new)
