Another fortnight has gone. Today we have lighter update from Jolla and the usual Harbour News and Repository roundup authored by @vige and @dcaliste respectively.

Jolla Phone delivery update

We have sent out emails regarding the Jolla Phone delivery schedules, please check it out for more information! If you have earlier decided to defer your final payment, now is your chance to get the Jolla Phone by completing final payment by Aug 31 and still lock your order. Last week we posted a longer update regarding shipping status and progress.

Jolla Phone update - Pre-orders shipping status and progress

Hello all, 15,000 pre-orders and counting — wow! Back in December we gave a target to start shipping Jolla Phone by end of June 2026. A target that was very ambitious and we can think many doubted whether we’d make it in time. But we did it - with professional excellence, with utmost stretching by many from the Jolla team and with a trust & support from the Jolla community, we delivered! While we’re shipping Jolla Phones every day and steadily ramping up our operations to full speed, over 2,500 are already with customers across the Europe. Batch #3 will take us to 10,000 phones delivered in just two months - which is a lot for our operations, thus please bear with us and we truly appreciate your patience as we scale up the production, fulfilment and customer services. We’re working hard on all areas and to get your phone on its way as quickly as possible.

Some of you have reported that you are missing Special TOH in your Jolla Phone delivery. That could be very much true and we apologies it. We have not forgotten adding it to your parcel, we just ran out the Inari Blue Special TOHs. Right after this happened some parcels went out without a letter saying that your Inari Blue Special TOH will be delivered as a backorder (with no extra cost). We are pleased to say that yesterday we received more Inari Blue Special TOHs from the supplier.

Sailfish OS releases

Since previous community news, we have published Sailfish OS 5.2.0.17 for Jolla Phone. This release is not yet ready to be published for all supported devices. The mentioned audio routing changes for Jolla Phone that broke other devices has been progressing nicely. Fixes still needed for Sony Xperia 10 II and older devices. Once we have known blocker issues fixed for older devices, we will publish 5.2.0 release to CBeta for all supported devices and route towards public release starts.

Lectio

Lectio, a native Sailfish OS application providing Catholic liturgical content from AELF.org received an update to version 1.6.2. Here are the changes:

• Office: full doxology and closing acclamation, gospel announcement order per PGLH/PGMR
• Office: versicle and response glyphs, clickable references on title and acclamation lines
• Mass: swipe right for the day’s Mass picker, with the Order of Mass in its pull-down menu
• Settings: About merged in, one menu entry instead of two
• Fixed a crash when navigating between the Hours tabs

Le Router

French public transport app was updated to version 1.2.0. This update brings a cleaning up of the whole architecture.

Frostlife

Frostlife is a life counter for Magic: The Gathering. It supports up to 6 players and around-the-table layout so everyone should be able to easily see their own panel. It’s a completely offline app, everything stays on the phone.

Tooterβ

Mastodon client is now at version 1.4.1. Changes from previous version (1.3.7):

• Notifications fixes
• corrections to Alt text addition for all media elements

Ielig Web

This simple but fast browser received update to version 1.1.1. There aren’t really any changes featurewise - it’s just a new build against Sailfish OS 5.2.

Captain’s Gym

This workout planning and analysis app was updated to version 0.3. The changelog is:

• motivation message for often skipped exercises
• improve the weight change detection for notification
• improve suggested weights
• now it is possible to edit the weights at the end of the training in the summary page
• after a training the sum of moved kg will be compared to the last training
• if the weights has been manual increase/decrease of a training set, the user will be asked to apply these for the next training

Twinkle Reader

The speed reading app was updated to version 0.11. The changes include:

The list and Twinkle reading view were cleaned up, summary pages look better, and the main screen is simpler: Inbox first, with Saved, Sync, and Add close at hand. The newer Sailfish build also adds Picks and onboarding hints. Preferences now cover opt-in/out, language, font, speed, and hint controls. Full text, RSVP, and audio views are easier to understand, with better pull-down actions for translate and narrate.

Meliona

Meliona is a new app which allows you to play classic J2ME games. There are two caveats though:

1. You need to have Java 11 installed on your device, it is not bundled with Meliona

2. The app is in Chinese, there is no English translation

Dimeora

Dimeora is a watch app. It includes a couple of beatiful watch faces, but unfortunately the app does not have English translations, so unless you understand Chinese the usability is not that great.

jBoy Advance

The Gameboy Advance emulator received another update, to version 1.1.0. The changes include:

• Fixed vibration for SFOS 5.1
• Added fast forward modes (1.5x and 2.0x)
• Option to play sound in fast forward modes 1.5x and 2.0x
• Option for frame blending (useful with some games who use the ghosting of the original GBA-Screen)
• ROMs can be set as favorites (and removed from the favorites with the icon or in the ROM sub-menu)
• Fixed datetime format in new created or updated savestates
  (optional)

jBoy

The Gameboy emulator was also updated to version 1.2.0, with the changes:

• Fixed WY trigger (caused a few flickering frames when a window was shown in some games)
• Fixed LCD off/on frame handling (caused sometimes a few “stuck” frames)
• Fixed STAT IRQ blocking (some games who rely on this work now)
• Implemented Gameboy (DMG) only “STAT bug” (a few games rely on this)
• Option to play sound in 1.5x/3.0x speed
• Fixed sound trigger reset
• Fixed vibration for SFOS 5.1 (Gamepad + ROM-Vibration)
• ROMs can be set as favorites (and removed from the favorites with the icon or in the ROM sub-menu)
• Fixed unsupported romtype unload (the cover showed an empty frame when an unsupported rom was loaded)
• Fixed datetime format in new created or updated savestates
• Improved frameskip

Repository roundup

Main interface

• mapplauncherd, the daemon responsible to start applications faster thanks to preloading, pvuorela fixed the issue of QML-only applications not being differentiated by the home screen.
• sailfish-fonts, a package to gather fonts used in the OS, dumol changed the fonts used for emoji to go beyond version 13.1. Previously Sailfish was using the colour emoji from Twitter, but now that the browser has been updated to ESR 115, it can support fonts that use COLRv1 standard. With this contribution, the default emoji font (colour and monochrome) become Noto Emoji.
• mce, mode control entity, spiiroin added optional feedback on lid changes.
• nemo-qml-plugin-systemsettings, QML bindings to access system parameters, spiiroin made lid values accessible from QML settings UI.
• sailfish-version, the package describing the current OS version, keto introduced the name for version 5.3. It is mentioned that “Tammela” is still a proposition at that time.

Network, communication and telephony stack

• nfcd, the daemon for near field communication, slava added two new D-Bus methods to block / unblock the NFC adapter.
• ofono, the telephony library, abranson added extended support for cell broadcast messages, updating the legacy GSM support to extended UMTS messages.
• cell-broadcast-provider-info, contains network and region specific data for cell broadcasts, abranson worked on adding support for Australian alert service. Compared to US and EU alert systems, the Australian one adds optional categories and policies.
• libqofono, the QML bindings to Ofono, abranson added support for new metadata in cell broadcasts.
• nemo-qml-plugin-email, QML bindings for emails, dcaliste fixed an issue blocking the decryption of emails.
• wireless-regdb, the wireless regulatory database, mal updated it to 2026-05-30.
• connman, the connection manager, LaakkonenJussi fixed WireGuard crashes.
• bluez5, the Linux Bluetooth stack, jusa added a configuration to force the type of a non-LE bluetooth connection. keto backported several fixes from upstream.
• messagingframework, the email Qt framework, pvuorela updated to the latest upstream version, including a contribution adding the special “archive” folder.

Browsing the web

• nspr, platform independence for non-GUI operating system facilities like threads, file and network IO…, abranson updated it to 4.39.
• nss, network security services from the Mozilla foundation, abranson updated it to 3.127.
• gecko-dev, Mozilla’s Gecko web rendering engine, abranson updated the 115 branch to the latest Mozilla release for this version. While still working on ESR 140, he opened a branch to move to ESR 153. This work is also visible in branches of the different repositories related to the browser.

Low level libraries

• giflib, a library to manipulate GIF format image files, mal updated it to 6.1.3 and backported a patch to fix CVE-2026-26740.
• libarchive, a library to handle compressed formats, mal updated it to 3.8.9.
• zlib, the compression library, direc85 updated it to 1.3.2.
• libexif, a library to handle EXIF data in images, mal updated it to version 0.6.26.
• openvpn, a VPN solution, mal updated it to 2.7.5.
• sqlcipher, AES encryption for SQLite databases, direc85 updated it to 4.18.0.
• mesa, graphic libraries, abranson fixed a code path creating dead locks in concurrent EGL contexts.
• openssl, utilities and library for cryptography, mal updated it to 3.5.8.
• sqlite, an embeddable SQL database engine, abranson updated it to 3.53.3. He also enabled carray compilation, since it is required by modern Gecko engine.

Developer’s corner

• toh-designs and toh-content: two new repositories to gather develpments on Other Halves.
• curl, the command-line tool to access the web, mal updated to 8.21.0.
• meson, a high productivity build system, mal updated it to 1.11.1.
• openssh, the OpenSSH implementation of SSH protocol, mal updated it to 10.4p1.
• fingerterm, the console application, JimKnopfIot fixed lost color change between the first and second column, see provided screenshot.
• xdelta, a delta compression tool, martyone packaged it for Sailfish.

Can someone who understand things translate this to me, does this mean that we finally get wider list of emojis available?? Tried to read the PR, but I don’t speak that solid dev yet

Mozilla’s Gecko web rendering engine, abranson updated the 115 branch to the latest Mozilla release for this version. While still working on ESR 140, he opened a branch to move to ESR 153.

Everything related to native browser is just beautiful to watch. First 115, WIP for ESR 140 and already looking for ESR 153. Just big thank you @abranson

Those are literally programmed in. Kind of logical: if Unicode or the font grows some letters, we don’t get extra letters on the keyboard - and what position should they have anyway?

I presume so - but qml is readable/patchable. But is emoji keyboard maybe even the wrong way to do it perhaps? How does Android/iPhone even do it nowadays? Lots of apps seem to have their own emoji selectors.

Consider bumping a feature request, or create on if it didn’t already exist.

I have been thinking the same what would be best place for emojis in SailfishOS. At least in android there is button on top of the keyboard where you get to the emoji selection view. I don’t mind that much of how SFOS currently does it, but the emoji selection is just suuuper small. My suggestion would be that there would be category button in below of emoji keyboard and then you could scroll down that category to see all emoji options. There is patches for emojis, but I try to keep my system patch free. Closer to the vanilla better as I have zero knowledge to tackle any possible problems…

My point is that this fact follows naturally from putting them on a keyboard with 1 or 2 views/pages.
Categories of different sizes are a bad fit for a keyboard of fixed size.

Those categories are more like emojis/flags/food related/symbols etc. No need to change sizes imo. But yeah, I don’t want more side swappable emoji views. I would prefer emojis to stay in that one keyboard view, but in that fixed size keyboard view to be able to scroll them downwards.

I really like ichthyosaurus’s emoji keyboard - a vast improvement over the stock one, though even before this update it was missing a few characters that the phone could render.
