Jolla Phone 2026 - lowest phone call volume is quite high

REPRODUCIBILITY: Always within a phone call
OS VERSION: 5.2.0.16
HARDWARE: Jolla Phone 2026
UI LANGUAGE: FI/SV/EN - switching from time to time
REGRESSION: No

DESCRIPTION:

If I have a plain phone call going on with lowest volume setting - I don’t need to have the phone on my ear to hear it - I can hold the phone easily a meter away and hear the counter part.
It feels a bit uneasy from time to time when in public places, like the whole room hears the phone call :right_anger_bubble:
Didn’t find anyone mentioning about this here on forum, to my big surprise..

Otherwise I’d assume my ears are kaputt, but my work phone lets me get whisper level volume that the whole congregation doesn’t need to listen to :hear_no_evil_monkey:

MODIFICATIONS:

No modifications whatsoever.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Of course I have not measured this at anyway, but I asked a colleague which confirmed that it is quite loud.
I haven’t checked whether this is actual for messenger calls or not.

I believe there was another bug report on that call volume controls does nothing at all.

I found only one with search but it was many years old and this is most likely device specific. But if there was same thing already elsewhere I stand corrected and can point this thread to the other one..

Took a while, but here it is:

Thank you Attah for taking the time to finding this. That thread is pretty close. However, for me the volume of the call does change. On the other thread the volume didn’t change at all although slider moved.

Yes, I know, these seem to be relatively close these threads.

Haven’t remembered to test how the UI looks/handles the volume change, but I can agree that the minimum volume is way too loud.

On my XA2, when I take a call, the phone volume is to high ant I can’t lower it.
Solution: I rise it and then lower it. Then it accepts to go lower.
But I guess you tried that.

Anyway, this feature request seems to be close:

The thread also indicates @nephros patch which allows a finer volume control (Patchmanager).

It also talks about a pactl command which should allow to manually lower the volume, but I can’t find the earpiece when listing the outputs.

I did, no effect. Still the lowest is too high and unchanged.

I found that too when I did search before posting this thread. I somehow might have misread it a bit that it handles more just the range of volume controls :man_shrugging:
Yeah, these are a bit intertwining things at least..

Its not with JP, but I had this situation yesterday:

  • Started one call with already lowest volume
  • call volume was like at maximum, much too loud
  • tryed to decreas the volume, but was not possible, because already at minimum setting
  • but: after I pressed once on “+”, tje volume was at that lavel and after it was possible to decrease to minimum

Yeah, same on the XA2 and the JP2

I’ve tried this a few times, but doesn’t work for me. Not sure how low the lowest should be, but to me it’s too loud. And if a person over a meter away can clearly hear the call, the i’d say it’s not just abou how sensitive my hearing is.

I’ve also reset the audio from Utilities, but that does nothing to help the issue. BT calls however work just fine.

The volume sliders aren’t working; .sometimes calls are extremely loud. It’s such an annoying bug that I can’t use the Jolla until it gets fixed.
