So, I’m having Bluetooth issues with the new Jolla Phone (currently on 5.2.0.13). The Bluetooth just crashes randomly. Using Utilities to restart Bluetooth works for a while, but then it crashes after some time. I haven’t found a way to pinpoint the cause for this.
PRECONDITIONS:
Freshly installed Jolla Phone with apps downloaded during device setup.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
Turn on Bluetooth
Start App Support during device startup
Use the phone
EXPECTED RESULT:
Bluetooth stays on.
ACTUAL RESULT:
Bluetooth crashes.
MODIFICATIONS:
Only official packages, App Support, Exchange, Predictive text input, F-Droid and Aurora Store
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
What I did so far:
Uninstall App Support Bluetooth
Turn the phone off and on again ()
Turned off the App Support autostart
Stopped App Support
Turned on Bluetooth from Settings (for some reason it was off, even though during power off I left it on)
Turn off the phone and turn it on again (Bluetooth stays on after shutdown and restart)
Install App Support Bluetooth
Turn off the phone and turn it on again (as instructed on the App Support Bluetooth installation instruction in the Store page)
Manually started App Support
Turned on the App Support Bluetooth in Bluetooth Settings
Now the Bluetooth stays on after phone shut down and power up. I tried adding my Suunto 5, and I was able to connect to my Suunto 5 from Sailfish Settings, but since it’s connected on the OS level, the Suunto App doesn’t find it anymore. If I remove the connection from the OS, the Suunto App finds the watch, but fails to initiate the connection. This is probably unrelated to the crashing, but more about the current state of Bluetooth support in App Support.
I have the same experience. And just like you, I haven’t been able to pinpoint the reason for the crash. Well, it doesn’t seem to be so much a crash but more like bluetooth getting stuck.
Well yes. It gets disabled and can’t be enabled without restarting it through Utilities.
When I got the phone, the initial aetup failed because it couldn’t find a WiFi adapter. I had to do a factory reset and after that I was able to go through the setup process. I really hope it was just a software glitch and not related to anything more serious with the hardware.
Worked half a day. This morning it got disabled again and had to restart through Utilities. Now it’s been up and running for a nice five hours. So, not quite there yet.
Ok, so I’ve been monitoring the Bluetooth connection for a few days, and it seems that the App Support Bluetooth in the System settings is the culprit for the crash. Here’s what I’ve seen:
20.7. about 19:15, updated SFOS, turned on Bluetooth and App Support manually, including App Support Bluetooth in Settings.
21.7. about 09:40 needed to reset Bluetooth due to crash
22.7.:
09:30 needed to reset Bluetooth due to crash.
10:40 needed to reset Bluetooth due to crash.
01:46 needed to reset Bluetooth due to crash, turned off App Support.
23.7.:
12:33 Bluetooth is still on, turned App Support on manually
15:27 turned off App Support Bluetooth (SFOS Settings)
24.7.:
As I’m writing this, the Bluetooth is still on. No crashes, nothing.
Turning off the App Support Bluetooth also stops my Withings app to sync and connect to the wathch. And even if I turn the BT Support on, it doesn’t reconnect and sync. Turning the Bluetooth off and on with App Support enabled, the Withings App reconnects, Sync is still a bit iffy, it syncs up until 13%, then disconnects, reconnects and syncs again up to 13%. Data is uploaded bit by bit, every 13% sync adds more data to the app.
Yeah. I turned the App Support BT on and off, alas, the BT crashed after a while. So, with the current observations, it may crash even if it’s not kept on.
