Next gen Jolla Phone

6" is still a pretty big screen for something that is gesture based.

5.2" seems like a good size for reaching most of the screen. And we are pushing it at that size. Also a size like that can fit in a pretty small frame and with a bit of eccentric industrial design you can get rid of notches. But the above needs an amount of “sisu” jolla doesn’t have. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

From the feedback on the C2:

It seems the C3 improves on: 5G, fingerprint sensor.
However, Jolla did not mention their plans for the CPU and the display technology. It seems the C2 was inferior to the 10iii at this respect, and for the C3 the comparison with the 10iii/10v is unclear.

Besides raw power, I am more interested in hardware support. Did Jolla do a good job with the C2? For example, the 10iii has an annoying focussing issue (it refuses to take pictures if the subject is moving). Does the C2 suffer from similar problems? I am asking to know what to expect about the C3.

Only Apple build devices with this screen size.12/13 mini its ok-ish. SE2 its a bit wider, regardless of the smaller screen size.Right now I have access to 13,13mini,SE2,11 PM, 15 PM, Nokia 7 Plus, 10 III and Redmi Note 10.Xperia 10 III feels amazing and sfos looks astonishing on it. On the other hand 13 mini its like glued to my hand and vanilla 13 its just fine… all others are two handed phones with option for self protection.Smaller screen size will withdraw alot of € to be produced and in all scenarios battery life will be devastating.

An open source SoC would be awesome;
doubt one can be found tho?

That is veeeery easy to know.

Just think about which country and which (two) companies benefitted from destroying the most serious European competitor to take over the complete control of the mobile operating systems in the world.

Would be nice to have eSIM and NFC. Also some kind of IP rating. But if it’s 5", i’m willing to compromise on anything.

I voted for the 5inch screen. I think you should coose it. Definately don’t go for a 5,5 inch screen, then you will just make everyone who woted for 6 inch or 5 inch phone unhappy.

Wow, what an overwhelming response this poll has received! 900+ votes, 11000+ views, 1500+ likes, 400+ comments - and counting. We are sincerely grateful of your valuable input! While this is not yet the announcement to start making the next Jolla phone, it certainly seems there could be a demand again for an unlike smartphone in the otherwise overly crowded market.

We’ll keep the topic open until end of the week. If you haven’t yet shared your views, please go and vote, we’d love to hear as many views as possible - let’s make it a reality together!

The market is crowded with race to the bottom phablets copying the samsung and apple design language that run android. Not with phones designed around the human hands that will run a gesture based OS.

The crowded market is in such a pitiful state that it is impossible to find a new phone that satisfies my demands. And I keep using the old Xperia 5.

Just do it.

as to the camera:
the basic thing about the camera is, that it should be a working camera. in xperia 10iii it only creates photos under hyperoptimal circumstances. with a moving leaf in the background the camera just stops and focusses on focusing without end. so not matter what kind of camera you use it should be a camera able to make fotos at least in normal environments …

oh come on, this is a whish list.

But what are the chances we will be getting something like this?

Just leaving this here… (found on Mastodon)

The Xperia 10 III is great, but just too tall, reaching the top is quite difficult. The width is great though, so perhaps a bit less tall, like 2cm, would be ideal for me (Actually, the Jolla 1 was a great physical size). I agree that a 5" OLED with LPM standby screen would be the ultimate.

P.S. I still have dreams about the FxTech concept drawings, this type of design could’ve been great (I am not the author of these images and using them as fair-use only):

Specs wise, I will trust Jolla’s judgement as to the most suitable hardware which would offer the best software and driver support, while keeping the cost reasonable. Performance should at least match the Xperia 10 III and also be future proof.

Lastly, thank you to Jolla for all they’ve done and to all contributors over the years. You are awesome.

I agree. I personally prefer bigger screens, but I can accept smaller designs if not as tall as the new xperias 10 III and V.
I think the current industry trend of ultra-small bezels must not be followed by Jolla. I would prefer bigger bezels when no notch or punch hole for the canera is there, similar to your shown devices, the left one your three devices. The aspect ratio of the device is critical…

I was an early adopter of the first Jolla Phone. I loved it back then. App compatibility forced me to switch to iPhone at some point. Now I have an Xperia 10 III with SFOS so I can get to know the current situation better, and SailfishOS still feels and looks amazing.

I am really looking forward to the new phone. Jolla C2 would’ve been great, but the humongous physical size was just too much. That’s why I voted for 5" display size. iPhone 13 Mini is quite close to a perfect phone size. Like others have mentioned, there is no way to use 6"+ device with one hand comfortably.

This is nice news. I would love to see something like Nokia E7. But i am not that hopeful to see the return of qwerty. This phone sounds something i could invest in though. :))

Whatever the phone specs; or screen size.
Please include a screen protector plastic with the correct size for the screen.

Thanks!
