Sailfish OS update from Jolla

Greetings from Jolla! This fortnight includes the new Harbour news that we introduced two weeks ago – thank you @vige for this initiative. This does not include Repository roundup but that just means that next time we have a longer time span. Community News authors group has grown to a group of nine active community members. If you’d like to participate authoring the newsletter, please let us know. This is a newsletter for you.

The Next gen Jolla Phone topic is still open for you to comment. Happy to see lively discussion and let’s keep it ongoing. Only the polls are closed.

Last week @affe_null had an excellent community IRC meeting question regarding new camera wrapper API. This was a continuation discussion to @mal suggestion from an earlier IRC meeting. Based on community IRC meeting discussion, we created a Sailfish Camera App Wishlist wiki. The wishlist is a tool for us and you, Sailfish Community, to understand desire and needs that you’d like to see in your Sailfish Camera. Please share your thoughts.

Finally, last week we released a fix for camera video recording on Jolla C2. This is a good step forward. Please enjoy! Worth mentioning that the Camera 2 API is still in the works.

Harbour news

Quite a lot of activity on the harbour - and the QA queue is still quite long.

Raw View

Raw View is an image viewer application for Sailfish OS with support for common standard image formats as well as for raw image formats as used by digital cameras.

Release 0.8.0 allows to share images. At least sharing over Bluetooth seems to work - I was a bit surprised to find out that the shared image wasn’t the original raw file, but instead the image was converted to JPEG first. There are also some performance improvements and security fixes.

Guild Wars Daily

Guild Wars Daily, a native client for the Guild Wars 2 API, received the following updates: Accounts section was removed, news seen status is now persistent, and the about page got a new implementation using Opal.About.

AllRadio2

AllRadio2, an easy-to-use radio player for online streaming radio, received a fix for play/pause bug on the lockscreen. Also Swedish and Spanish translations were added.

Zimpedia

Zimpedia is a ZIM archive offline reader. What’s a ZIM archive? It’s a format intended for storing offline content from the web, and in particular Wikipedia. In other words, Zimpedia is an offline Wikipedia reader. The latest version fixes an issue with opening articles from the latest Wikipedia dumps.

Plants

Now here is a must have app for anyone who likes to spent time outside and ever wonder what are all these plants around us! You see a plant you don’t recognize? Just take some photos of the plant and let the app identify the plant for you. Sounds insane, but it really seems to work!

Meteoswiss

Meteoswiss is an unofficial client to the weather forecast services provided by the Swiss Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology (MeteoSwiss). The version in Jolla Store got quite a version bump: From version 1.4.0 all the way to 3.0.0. There are too many changes to list everything here - there are updated translations, new views, and also the quite many changes under the hood. All in all, it’s a big update.

Wow, I like the plants app! I used to have the plantsnet android app, but this one was slow and dependend on google play services, later. It is really nice, that the app ecosystem now seems to evolve!

It’s nice to see progress, but can you also share the progress on the Xperia front? We are waiting a very long time already…

Like mentioned in the previous fortnight we plan to make a dedicated summary post regarding Sony Xperia 10 IV and 10 V – sorry to keep you waiting. We have reported issues. However, we do not have a schedule for the next release and cannot yet say what we get fixed.

Thank you for this inquiry.
My most important wish concerning camera is: a good selfie camera, not for selfies but for video calls. The software should be able to connect camera to Threema Libre (or other safe video calling services).

Somehow nothing happens, when I upload the images in Plants, no error and no result also nothing, while being thrown back to the main page and still “No plants identified yet“.

my deadline for the project is autumn. My xperia 10 V has been bought 1,5 years ago! I hope I will don’t have to say goodbye

Are your images on SD card? The current version has a missing permission which causes this.

I was telling people to have patience back in March-ish. But even I am running out of it. Personally I draw the line at November or so, I will have waited for well over a year by then. Duct-tape workarounds can only take you so far
