According mediatek website. BT 5.4 support comes from dimensity 7300 onwards. This looks really interesting.

SFOS can handle Beidou, Glonass, QZSS and Galileo. The C2 uses them to find a location

What is this VoLTE-Question? The Xperia 10ii, 10iii, 10iv, 10v and the C2 supports VoLTE. Even Community-Ports like the one for 1iv and 5iv support VoLTE. Of course the J2 will support it.

The original poster referred to VoLTE support “hopefully with major carriers”. I think it refers to the issue that many carriers do whitelisting of devices and Sony are out.

My Xperia 10iii does not use VoLTE with 3 operators I tested. @MeeGo-Junky found the only one operator in my country that whitelists Sony devices. (I am considering changing to them in a few months when my 24 months subscription ends.) And we’re talking about a major brand like Sony which presumably many tourists bring with them. For very small players like Jolla or Reeder it is guaranteed to be difficult to find operators that whitelist these devices.

Posting again the link for @mettska with the big table of providers that support VoLTE (or don’t) in each country:

@mettska Two things:

  1. While we may assume that VoLTE will be supported on this new phone, it’s not actually listed in the specs yet (hopefully an oversight). From what I’ve seen on Ubuntu Touch, VoLTE support has to be implemented for each chipset (although code reuse may be possible between similar chipsets), so it would be great for Jolla to confirm that Sailfish OS will support it on the new phone.
  2. Quite a few people have said VoLTE won’t work unless the phone has been specifically approved by the carrier/network. I don’t know if that’s true for all network in all countries, but it would be good for Jolla to confirm they plan to deal with this (and hopefully it’s possible given the relatively large amount of pre-orders). This probably wouldn’t be a problem when Sailfish OS is installed on an existing phone (e.g. Xperia) from a major manufacturer (e.g. Sony), but this is a new phone from a company the carriers/networks have probably never heard of.

Can’t wait to come back to SailfishOS, made sure to preorder one from the first batch.

Mentioned to my mum that i ordered it and once I showed her the page she wanted one too, so she’s in second batch :joy::joy:

Even the SoC is not listed in the specs yet
But since the hardware is Jolla’s, they can enable VoLTE support, as they did with Jolla C2 a year ago (see [Release notes] Tampella 5.0.0.43 for Jolla C2)

Yes, it depends on the carrier
Those in Germany and France are usually stricter, while networks are generally fine in Jolla’s homeland
I don’t think Jolla could realistically negotiate with every individual carrier

I was not precise enough.

If we check from Jolla phones specification couple of things (5G, BT 5.4 and WiFi 6) and compare to mediateks datasheets.

We will find out that suitable chips series are dimensity 7300 - - > and 8300 - - >

I didn’t check 9000 series datasheets.

Edit. BT 5.4 can be found only from 9300 - - >

I don’t think Jolla should offer their phone in a country, if they aren’t likely to be able to get VoLTE supported by at least the main carrier in that country. e.g. EE in the UK.

Any idea about the UK?

Search will reveal VoLTE call, SMS, MMS compatibility tables for many phones, countries and providers.

Harder issue with VoLTE is that emergency calls are believe it or not a bit different/specific. And on top of that it depends also on the network providers. That last part is mostly unknown and not trivial to test.

I don’t think any table lists Jolla’s new phone yet! I am talking about carriers (only) allowing specific phone models to access VoLTE, not whether Sailfish OS’s VoLTE implementation is compatible.

Have you a link to a carrier document describing this?

Here is the French list for VO Wi-Fi / VO LTE (they use the same list for both features) of allowed devices by Orange, the main French carrier : Appel et SMS Wi-Fi - Réseaux Orange

And the page explaining it : Voix 4G/VoLTE : connaitre les conditions d'éligibilité et gérer vos services incompatibles - Aide et Contact Orange

As far as I know, there are no whitelists
Only compatibility is required

Models 9300 and above support Wifi 7, and models 9400 and above support BT 6.0, which aren’t part of the Jolla Phone datasheet. Also price range. We voted, and we are getting a 600 € phone.

Yes, you right. So we are looking for 7000 or 8000 series SOC.

And wishing 8000 series SoC …

Looks like only the 7300/8300 have BT 5.4 and Wi-Fi 6
7200/8200 are limited to BT 5.3
