Jolla Phone 2026 - batch 1 - Dust building up between front camera and screen glass

So, for the moment doesn’t seem to be any dust in the front camera (received the phone, an orange one, three days ago) but i noticed that if i blow very close to the earpiece, the camera gets fogged up

Should i be concerned?

Not sure. My orange JP2 is still clean after more than a week and the proper fix was only just announced. If you’re worried, I’d suggest to replicate Jolla’s testing procedure and act depending on the results.

Ahahahah, yeah sure

Nah, i think i’ll just wait for their solution, in case

Excuse my ignorance, could you point me to where the proper fix was announced?

They announced they have found the fix for it under the descriptively named section “Dust issue” of the newest Community News.

Thank you very much! Quite an interesting read!

Today is my first day on sailfish forum and I’ll soon receive the device, I’m going to have lots to learn!

If the phone you receive is affected by the issue, I’m sure Jolla will soon™ post the solution in this thread on how to solve it.

Batch #1 Orange :grimacing:

I don’t think I’ll be able to keep myself from using it so I’ll be awaiting the fix and a way to clean up the debris.

Luckily I’m not a big selfie bloke!

But they didn’t tell us how they have fixed it …

I think they figured out the assembly process and now need to think how to fix the customers’ units.

Just returned from a longer trip and finally unboxed my new orange love, that was shipped on July 22nd. Wow, it feels and looks just great but since it’s building up fog in the front cam when blowing into the ear peace, I controlled myself and it went back into the box.

I was going to ask if many people getting their phones now (August) can fog their camera like that, since this seems a simple test of whether they will suffer from the dust problem or not.

I will be very dismayed if my new phone (arriving in few days) has this problem, many weeks after they originally noticed the problem & should have done something about it (or stopped production until fixed, since having to replace/repair 1000s of brand new phones seems like a big expense Jolla won’t want to deal with).

Does anyone with a Jolla protective cover have any experience of this dust issue?
My phone was part of the first batch to be dispatched (21 or 23 July), and thankfully, I don’t seem to have any dust on the lenses!
So I’m wondering whether this protective cover might also play a role in preventing dust from getting in…

I have a Batch #1 Orange from the Phone Day1, can see little dust inside the front camera.
Serial number ending with 1214.

Cases and screen protectors don’t cover the earpiece or the top microphone.

Air can indeed pass through, but for the moment, it’s merely speculation to suggest/state that dust passes through the same opening, given that these particles are larger than air.
Dust could also enter around the edges of the lenses, or through other openings such as the top speaker…
As the build isn’t airtight, my question isn’t trivial. We need to explore all possibilities

Sure, but Jolla did say that there was an issue with the top microphone seal if i remember correctly.
Also these 2 openings are the ones right next to the front camera so it kinda makes sense.

These are merely assumptions, based on Jolla’s response to this issue in their original post.
In the second post, they allude to a possible solution found in collaboration with the manufacturer, which appears to be conclusive.
Although, as you say, this remains a likely possibility given its proximity, it isn’t necessarily the cause. It may also be related to what @Koza shared here

Let’s wait for Jolla to make an official announcement regarding this issue

I conducted the test with five other phone models of my collection. No other unit builds up fog. The camera should be sweaty pants proof.

How many of those other phones were made by a 20-something employees mostly-software company who created their last phone like 12 years ago?
