I just noticed dust building up too . āThe Orangeā batch 1.
Phone received 5d ago, now 3 days in use. Now I setup my new phone and transferred everything over, will I have to transfer everything back to old phone again to ship new Jolla back?
Not happy about this at all. Why were shipments continued with yet another known defect? Should have halted shipping and correct the problem rather than forcing a roundtrip
I hope itās clear that Iām not blaming Jolla for anything here. They designed a dust proof phone, with a very good build quality and identified an assembly/quality issue that they are professionally taking care of. It was just about if this quick simple test is valid to proof if my phone is affected, without carrying it for a week in my pocket. Since, from my point of view, the result shows that it needs some rework, Iāll patiently wait for a solution before I start using it.
Since the dust problem is only supposed to affect some phones but not others, we can easily check if the blow-into-microphone-to-fog-lens test is likely to work or not by having people withOUT the dust problem after say two weeks usage (and ideally not using a protective case) to do the test, see if theirs fogs up & report here. Take the most common result of say 5+ people (assuming a few people will be mistaken).
TOH: Orange
Shipped on 30 July, Received on 10 August.
I canāt see any dust at first glance, but if I blow on the microphone, the front camera lens fogs up.
Will I have to return it for repair?
Weāll have to wait for more information about this problem
I donāt believe anybody would reasonably object to a slightly longer delivery time if the alternative is having to return the phone for repair with all the extra lost time (round tripping through post) and effort (moving data between phones and an extra round of setup/customising).
If that was really a concern it could easily be solved (as it should have been for the defective TOH boards) by giving the customer a choice. Just simply sent an email with yes/no choice button, plus default action for no response within 1 week. This is a solved problem.
Oh boy, we had and have already multiple people losing their minds here on the forums because the deliveries started a little later than the first communicated estimate was.
It really is a losing game for them, and in my eyes, they are handling it quite good. Little short on communication, as always, but they put a lot of thought into it, any already stated multiple times that they will not keep anyone stand in the rain.
Read and quote my full post, I already gave the solution anticipating exactly this kind of response:

The main complaint is the way this is being handled without consulting the customer. Deciding for someone else that they should want to receive a phone with known defects rather than waiting for a solution. When itās such a quick and simple thing to just send an email and ask.
I believe Jolla has made their decisions according to their best knowledge - and when it has become obvious that they will need to come up with a change in production they have halted the shipments.
Well, Iām not working for Jolla, so I cannot know - but thatās my guess how it has gone.
