Installing microG on Sailfish OS

It isn’t. There are settings explicitly related to microG, but the software itself is not part of App Support. (It isn’t really a problem to be clear.)

Thanks, will check that later!

Könnt Ihr mich da bitte auch einladen? Was braucht Ihr dafür, Benutzername?

Danke für den Hinweis.

Telegram nutze ich allerdings nicht.

Thanks for the howto for installing microg. Worked well on my C2!

Unfortunately, TJC seems gone. @flypig, would you by any chance have that howto anywhere else?

A copy of TJC is available on the Wayback machine: https://web.archive.org/web/20240308014915/https://together.jolla.com/question/207470/howto-almost-definitely-prevent-android-apps-from-auto-starting/

Whoho! :star_struck: twentychars

Hi everyone,

I got a MicroG question, regarding uninstalling it.

I installed it expecting to be able to easily backup whatsapp, but somehow it does not work. It remains stuck and it is not possible to backup the conversations and images.

I wanted to revert back to the “local backup” solution, allowing me to copy it from device to device or in the event of a reflashing (which my X10III urgently needs).

Since I installed MicroG, only the online backup alternative is show in WhatsApp and there is no way to select the local one.

What happens if I delete the Google account from MicroG, or if I uninstall MicroG? Am I at risk of loosing the existing WhatsApp account/backup?

Has anybody experience with a similar situation?

Thanks!!

I dont think I fully understand but if you have the local backup as a file, would it not just have to be moved to your sailfish storage and then it should be fine?

Personally I would secure copy the files in path/home/defaultuser/android_storage/Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp just in case you end to problems. Last time I had problems when changing Whatsapp from Xperia X to Xperia 10 II

The local backup file is outdated. Once an account is configured in MicroG, WhatsApp does not give the option to perform a local backup. Only the online alternative is possible. Hence the problem…

I don’t use WhatsApp, so I can’t help you with your problem, but with this guide you should at least be able to make some kind of a backup: Transfer WhatsApp by c... | SailfishOS community wiki

I have MicroG configured. In Whatsapp I have backup never as an option and it seems that the local bacup is created once a day.

Ok, I will give it a try…

I hope the conversations don’t get lost…

After a fresh install of sailfish os on xperia 10ii and having set up basic things, including microG from F-Droid, Aurora Store now offers me an update for Google Play Services (from Source: Google LLC), although i never installed them.

When trying to deinstall Google Play Services, i am asked if i want to deinstall MicroG-Services.

I use Sailfish for a very long time, although rarely with microG spoofing turned on, but this really puzzles me!

Is that intended and a part of microG faking Google Play to be installed? What happens if i update “Google Play” in Aurora? I don’t really want to try it out, since i don’t want original Google Play Services installed on my phone…

I think Aurora Store gets confused because the microG package uses the same application ID (com.google.android.gms) as Google Play Services. I haven’t tested updating. I just added com.google.android.gms to Aurora Store’s blacklist.

Aurora Store gets confused because I understand that’s pretty much what MicroG is supposed to do: to feign itself as Google Play Services for the apps that insist on you having the Google Play Services on your phone. So ‘tis but a minor side effect.
