Community meeting on 9th October 2025

Please note new time slot

Schedule: Thursday 2025-10-09T16:00:00Z :world_map: :date:

Sailfish OS Community Calendar (ICS format)

We agreed 5th June to try an afternoon time slot. Hopefully this works better for community members from central Europe. Let’s adjust time slot as needed.

Even if you do not participate, topics tend to generate discussion. I want to see discussion happening. Thus, I’m proposing that we’d use 10mins as minimum topic duration. Maximum 6 topics a week. I’m open to extend the meeting.

Topic proposals for the meeting:

  • Add your name/nick using the template below to suggest a topic.
  • Indicate how much time you’ll need so we can time-box the meeting accordingly.
  • Please be as thorough as you can with your question/topic.
  • If you can’t make the meeting please ask and name a substitute.

It is expected that you show up and present your topic, or name a substitute and make sure they attend in your absence. These IRC meetings are for real time participation and live discussions, otherwise you can post the topic on here and get responses that way.

We need you to be present to clarify details in the topic, and to ensure the discussion is leading to the answers you are looking for! If you do not participate or your question/topic isn’t clear enough it will be postponed. Also: always ask for more time than you anticipate your topic needs!

Please have your topics ready at least 3 days before the meeting so we can prepare good answers. Topics announced afterwards will be postponed to the next meeting.

Template for topic proposal: (post your topic proposals as comments to this forum topic).

  • Topic: Amount of supported devices
  • Some details about the topic: I am too new here to have historical package and understand that this topic might be unpopular. But anyway is this list up to date: Supported Devices | Sailfish OS Documentation? If so has it been considered that most of the devices could be moved to “Ceased support” category? I don’t know if in reality keeping so many models supported causes any extra work for upkeep. But I would guess it does, which is why I ask. Wouldn’t it make more sense to focus only few models at the time and really fine tune the user experience? Maybe it would make development like the Perceived responsiveness of the UI easier and faster?
  • Approx. time needed: 10min
  • Substitute (optional): I don’t know yet if I am able to personally join, but will definitely read the logs

The list is indeed up to date. I use one of the oldest devices on the list and do still receive updates

Thank you for confirmation!

  • Topic: Open Sourcing: Expectations
  • Some details about the topic:
It’s great that the Open-Sourcing process has finally landed, and we have seen repos (currently: Weather and Notes, with Camera upcoming recently added) appear on Github.
In communications prior to the relicensing and publishing, it has been said that depending on what happens with these “Test Balloon” applications, more could follow.
What are the factors that are monitored at Jolla regarding this, or what is the expectation of what kinds of community contributions will happen?
In other words, what would be something that would indicate to the ones in deciding positions that “Hey, Open-Sourcing has been a great success for us, let’s do more of that!”.
  • Approx. time needed: 1-5min
  • Substitute (optional): anyone who has considered contributing to any Jolla-maintained applications

[EDIT:] It turns out I won’t be able to attend this meeting. I apologize - still maybe it’s possible to give an answer.

If Jolla would consolidate all the different variants of the same model under one entry, the list would be less than half of its current length. I also use one of the older devices on the list and appreciate the long support these devices receive.

That is also valid point. And I very well understand why people appreciate long support. I have always hated those phones which promise two year support etc. But in Jollas case I am just wondering if dropping all over 5 years supported devices would free some resources and speed up development for the rest and future devices?

  • Topic: Unable to set lock pin for Android apps requiring it
  • Some details about the topic: There has been multiple persons reporting that they are unable to set lock pin for Android apps that require it. Usually the apps requiring the pin are quite crucial for peoples daily usage. Has this been investigated by Jolla and is this at some roadmap on planned fixes? Here is couple links of the subjects: Unable to set lock pin for Android apps requiring it & Android app requiring lock pin
  • Approx. time needed: 10min
  • Substitute (optional): I don’t know yet if I am able to personally join, but will definitely read the logs. I assume this topic is in interest of many others also

  • Topic: Any new information about next gen Jolla phone
  • Some details about the topic: Many of us are probably almost holding our breath if we could get some updates on next gen Jolla phone. Most interesting topic on this is, will there be next gen Jolla phone? There seem to be more and more interest for alternative solutions and as Sailfish offers just that, but many which or need better HW phone. Is there any updates regarding this?
  • Approx. time needed: 10min (topic can be skipped or handled in general section also, if a lot of other topics are raised)
  • Substitute (optional): I don’t know yet if I am able to personally join, but will definitely read the logs*

Topic: Roadmap

Some details about the topic:

Having a general Roadmap again (and regular posts on the official Jolla blog) would be an addition to this topic - right know we all can just guess s into the blue to where the journey might go on both software and hardware side.

Approx. time needed: 5 min

Substitute (optional): Don’t know yet if I can make it into the meeting, but a general answer would be the interesting thing for the community.

(Edit: transformed the post into a topic on 2025-10-07)

  • Topic: Xperia 10V
  • Some details about the topic: Get some official statement when or if ever we will get camera and rest of main phone features what does not work now ( mainly: camera, jack audio, fingerprint). Just lot of people purchased these Xperias because Jolla promised that until xmass 2024… so would be nice to get real status to decide if selling device is better solution for all who wasted money caused by Jolla promises … thanks

See https://forum.sailfishos.org/t/community-meeting-on-28th-august-2025/24483/4, with answer: “ * We will cover your concerns in the dedicated post of the Sony Xperia (rainemak, 16:21:34)“ Follow up question: When will the dedicated post of the Sony Xperia (IV&V?) appear?

And will even Xperia 10III ever actually get echo cancellation, without which it is very nearly useless as a telephone?

Highly recommended presenting the question in either general discussion part of the meeting or creating own topic of it for the next meeting

You mean without reflashing Android 13+ base? AFAICT it’s achievable already with a reflash, but I also haven’t done it because I’d like to keep my SFOS install + data intact, which would require partition imaging.

  • Topic: WPA3 status update

  • Some details about the topic: I recently installed some simple Open Source IoT switches and was very surprised to find them supporting WPA3, this makes my Jolla phone the only thing preventing me from switching our home network to WPA3. I recall that there has been some work on this in the past where do things stand?
(WPA3 is mostly a software issue, I have seen it working on Linux laptops that were built years before anyone even thought about WPA3)

  • Approx. time needed: 2-3 minutes

  • Substitute (optional): Please discuss regardless of my presence, I will most likely not be able to attend.

Thank you @Keeper-of-the-Keys ! Let’s cover this one in the next community meeting. We have many questions already and this came late. If we have time left left, we can try to squeeze this in for the General discussion but I don’t promise this as a normal topic.
