Since our provider is switching off 3G, I need to switch on VoLTE in my Sony Xperia III. In the Settings “Mobile Network”, I try to toggle the switch “4G calling (VoLTE)”. It starts to pulse on and off, but keeps being “Not registered”.
Has anyone had a similiar issue? I run on sailfish Pispala.
Thank you for the links. I have to admit I don’t understand how I can find out what to actually do. It seems a hard problem and mainly a question of being lucky or not. I hope this won’t mean the end of sailfish for our three devices.
What country are you in and what provider are you using? Do you know if your network provider is whitelisting devices, or if they support any device that supports VoLTE?
The provider is smartmobil in Germany (this is 1&1, if I remember correctly). I have tried to get a reply from them via various channels, but so far without success. I’ll try to find out if they are whitelisting, good idea to ask.
I have a similar issue using PremiumSIM provider with 1&1 carrier in Germany. I am not expert at all, but while following VoLTE on the Xperia 10 III (mark 3) - filling the gaps - #33 by tn71 I noticed there is no modem config for 1&1. Nevertheless, I have also a second vodafone callya sim in the phone, and also that one does not run on VoLTE. Interesting enough, PremiumSIM changed my SIM a few years ago, and before that VoLTE was working. Please keep us posted if you find out something.
Unfortunately, I don’t think 1&1 even has an mbn that you could try inject into the phone to get it working as it’s such a new MNO. So, by the sound of it, if you’re on 1&1 or any MVNO associated with it, you might be best changing networks if you want to stay on your Xperia phone - but I could be wrong! 1&1 heavily relies on the Vodafone network, so you might get lucky to connect to it via the Vodafone network.
Regarding PremiumSIM, it’s because it changed networks a few years back that VoLTE no longer works.
This person mentioned that the mcfg_sw/test/ir51_92/vlvw/test/mcfg_sw.mbn from the default XZ2C configurations helped them connect to the 1&1 network, while others have noted that the other test files helped them connect to other networks. If you wanted to try this at your own risk, you can give this a go (no promises this will work!):
Figure out where your modem is stored (modem_a): ls -all /dev/block/bootdevice/by-name
Mine was sda37. Dump a modem backup (this places it in the home directory): devel-su dd if=/dev/block/sda37 of=/home/defaultuser/modem_backup.img
Download this file and copy it to the home directory (/home/defaultuser/). I made this file by dumping that test mbn file into a modem image to help you out, but you can do this yourself with the instructions in the post linked in the post above.
No worries. Thanks for your suggestion. One minor thing I noticed when trying out (and corrects my own statement above): the SIM in slot2 (vodafone callya) registers successfully to VoLTE as soon as I set is as the default internet data sim. Probably this was mentioned already somewhere in the forum but just for the sake of completeness.
