So my Jolla C2 arrived and I’m experiencing trouble trying to boot it up. The touch screen doesn’t work. I read that some people had the same issue with the phone as me, but I never found any solution. Any advice, please? I’m posting this here as it is with great frustration that we all had to wait for the phone so long and now that it arrived, it’s unusable. The battery was at 54% on the arrival. I think we should get some sort of fix of the situation. I understand that Jolla had trouble with the company over in Turkey so it’s probably not easy to face the frustration from the customers, but my money is gone and with nothing in return. So please, any advice? Any troubleshooting? Thank you.

Did you try rebooting it?

is it not booting up at first startup or has it worked at least one time?

This batch should have some kind of recovery mode, so that can be step one to get your C2 working. If it doesnt work, you will find a description in this forum, how to flash it again. Its less difficult than it might sound to newbies.

In case you can’t find the instructions to reflash anywhere, you can go to Jolla shop

and download the C2 package. After uncompressing it, there is a readme file with further instructions there

So the problem was that when i booted up the system the first time, everything worked fine, except for the SIM card. So i tried to reboot it. After restarting I was shown the create password screen, so that’s probably the installation Wizard But the screen wouldn’t react to the touch. I couldn’t type any password. Nothing except for the volume and lock buttons worked. I solved it by connecting a mouse to the phone and finished the Wizard with the mouse. Now the touchscreen seems to be working. Although the SIM card is not and also the brightness of the screen doesn’t change no matter how i set it.

Did you try to use the second sim-slot? Did you try to use another sim-card?

Yes to both questions. I already tried reflashing through fastboot. Now everything worked on the first bootup except for the SIM.

Ok, next question: What does “the sim doesn not work” exactly mean? Is it recognized? Do you see some settings in the “mobile network” part of the preferences? Or is it simply not even recognized?

There is the app “ofono-logger” - it could help find a problem and could lead to a high-quality bug-report or even to a solution. However my feeling is, that you have a hardware-problem.

EDIT: Hardware-problem: If you open the preferences and go to “about the product” (I dont know the exact term - in german its: “Produktinformationen”), and tip several times on the “build”-number, you can open the CSD-Tools. There you can have a look (under “SIM”), if the modem is present and the sim is present. That the “test” shows “Fail” in my case too, but the Sim is working flawlessly.

Perform this in console:

systemctl restart ofono

For me it helps on my C2 after bootup to recognise the SIM-Card in Slot1.

Wow that CSD Tool is useful. But my SIM test proved as failed. It says that my SIM card is not present in neither of the slots, despite seeing both of the modems. Cellular modem available: true, SIM present: false.

And if this happens with another working sim, too, you should contact Jolla Zendesk.

We have received feedback that some Jolla C2s have had problems with SIM card. For few cases fastboot flashing fixed that. Why this occurs in the first place, we do not know yet.

Please find fastboot flashing instructions from here:

If you see that there are issues with SIM card not recognized or mobile data not connecting please help us out and try instruct reflashing before instructing sending devices back to us for repair. Surely, it is possible that a device has a hardware defect and those should be returned back.

Hello,

I received my Jolla C2 phone three weeks ago, but I can’t get it to work; my disappointment is great. I sent a message (ticket) on Jolla’s Zendesk two weeks ago to get help, but I received no response.

While browsing the forum, I read that many people had the same problem as me… the phone gets stuck in an endless boot loop and I can’t do anything with it. It seems that it needs to be “flashed” to reinstall a non-buggy version of Sailfish OS. However, I cannot access the phone via USB using Linux or Windows. Does anyone have a solution to suggest? Thank you

yes, search “fastboot flash C2”. Follow the instructions and ask, if something goes wrong.

Keep in mind to use a USB 2 port for flashing., USB 3 can cause hassles

@rainemak

Is there a chance that the shop will stock Jolla C2 protective sleeves again? I’ve always wanted to buy a dark version (moss green) and, because of the shipping costs, a red one as well.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Jolla,

Phone from the last batch.

SFOS does not recognize memory card (5 different) and SIM cards (2 with change on the tray).

Rebooting or restart ofono didn’t change anything.

Update to 5.0.0.76 and 77 didn’t change anything.

Fastboot didn’t change anything.

Zendesk, no response for a week.

What to do next with this C2?

They have 2-3 weeks of a backlog.
