My C2 is now completely unusable for an unknown reason, maybe I touched it in my pocket many times when it was asking for security code, It was locked late last night… Now I type correct securitycode but still it won’t start even without simcard, and doesn’t ask for sim pin-code. How can I recover or reset it? I have restarted it several times, but it doesn’t ask for SIM pin-code. Just the lock screen with message “Too many attempts” and “This unit has been locked permanently”. It can not be accessed, not any menu or any apps…
The simcard works on my other phone, but was locked, so I had to enter PUK code for it on my other phone… still doesnt help on this phone… .
I had the same issue with a Xperia X10-ii, but the process to revert is totally different.
Perhaps this page may help you: Fastboot flashing of Jolla C2
Try to mix what @pherjung said and this: Recovery Mode
When you are in the recovery mode and have gotten to shell: Releasing Xperia from “Permanent lock”
That won’t work as the C2 does not have any recovery mode.
Reflashing helps, but it deletes all data, apps and accounts.
A recovery mode is existing. Try power + volume up for 30 seconds on C2. I found it by trying. But I don’t know if it is implemented.
Is it planned to add a functionality to remove a “permanent lock”?
It won’t be of any help to you because the C2 has no recovery mode, but the device permanently locking itself without you (probably) having done anything sounds a lot like a (never fixed) bug I experienced years ago on the Jolla Tablet, which suddenly decided my lock code was no longer correct and then claimed it was permanently locked, but then after lots of reboots suddenly decided the code was correct after all and it was no longer permanently locked:
I guess a proper statement is:
A recovery image for SailfishOS does not exist (yet?).
Did not know that… Editing post…
It seems that there isn’t any recovery image, when booting with upvolume button and switching to down as instructed for recovery nothing more happens, device is still locked and unavailable for access… That also happens in fast boot mode…
To be honest, imo it would be bad if it would be differently. That’s a feature to protect your private data. If there would be a simple tutorial to circumvent it on the website of Jolla, it would be somewhat strange.
This kind of locking of the phone is not a good feature, since it has happened without any sensible reason, I have given the correct code all the times the screen has been visible… Now I fear that both the few private datas on the phone internal storage is permanently lost, and perhaps my desire to use a linux phone, something I have been eager to try for many years…
Yea there should be a protection against this. Especially if you sell the phone with preinstalled sfos.
I completely disabled display lock.
I didn’t manage to disable it, but did try to find the option to do so… My need for a display lock is minimal, I remember when I had a work Iphone and its locking feature, a few times it caused long delays in its usage…
I can understand your frustration. I use Sailfish since the very beginning. I never experienced that on any of my devices. So I don’t know how this could happen. Anyway, what I did to be on the safe side, is to set the amount of attempts to 50. And much more important: Make regularly backups of everything that is important.
I have not lost much data of importance from this phone, fortunately, most was stored on its 512GB microSDcard… but earlier this year I lost a lot of important data from my old Nokia 808 with Delight OS, which has been my primal phone and “notebook” for more than a decade… I hope this C2 will be possible to reinstall, but I have not access to downloading the Sailfish OS in my Jolla account yet.
I would write an email to jolla maybe they can give you an image.
I have a C2 image listed on shop.jolla.com - presumably that is available for all?
I checked this right now and got offered to download a C2 flashing image. I have some licenced devices but never ordered a C2. It seems to be available for all.
