Jolla Phone update - lights on, technical bits and the schedule

Just give them a chance. I think you can alwas get the phone under people for good enough price later.
Highest win will be not the hardware, not the color, not TOH and not the fancy software. It will be the winn of some freedom. Independence from big high tech.
All other would be offcause good to have. And as we have here some good devs in the forum, who provide us some helpful apps, i think, we will be more or less happy :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

What’s to doubt? Why would that be a doubtful scenario? I don’t get it.

for me it’s very interesting who will be partners of Jolla. Who will make motherboard, who will get all the blueprints

We know that: Some Chinese company. I’m pretty sure they’ve been mentioned at some point.

Or did you think that the chips will be glued onto the motherboard in Salo?

And what would be the point of this?
Are we aiming for another librem 5 USA, that has much worse specs, 2000$ price and still has parts that can’t be made in US?

I’m guessing you’re replying to the other guy, and I’m guessing that they suspect the chinese manufacturer of doing something shady to the motherboards, or stealing the blueprints.

Also Fuck Purism. I read the critical articles back then, what a shitshow. Like Tesla only smaller.

BTW, there’s a Reply button in the bottom right of every comment, if you use that Discourse will make it clear to other users who you’re replying to.

Yes, as you mentioned down in a comment you actually “get it”
I just wanna know trust level of Chinese partner. Can it make secrete PCB-level implant or not.

As I know Jolla was/is working with Reeder making C2, so is it the same partner for J2 or not?

pretty sure it wont be Reeder. Jolla had too much trouble getting the second batch of C2 from them.

Jolla said somewhere outright that Reeder will have zero involvement in the J2

Kudos to all of the Jolla team for making this phone a reality  . Really looking forward to getting my hands on this!

We are desperately awaiting for your super fast J2-Port. But will Jolla accept your challenge?

Okey, so I like the looks - besides the color the phone gives vibes of old JP1 & a bit of old Nokia smartphones like N9, so it’s really cool. I don’t mind the plastic here, it looks good.

Now when it comes to SoC, RAM etc…
Kinda sad. Software doesn’t make up for the hardware. It’s only the other way around.
You just don’t make performance out of air - you can only waste it with bad software.
I wish you luck. Maybe in a year or something I might be able to just spare some money for JP2, but not as a main device for now.

You could have known if not….

I would say, it’s as simple as updating your address on the Jolla website days before you leave; and then back just days before you return.

Also according to this message in 2024 Jolla C2 Community Phone deliveries - #448 by bluitamaraty, they have been using UPS, which offers different options at your choice such as such retention at their delivery center for the duration of your absence, or delivery to a small shop you trust.

The C2 was sent to me back then via Posti+DHL.

I think they will use the address used in the order. This has, unfortunately, influence on the applied VAT. I do not know if it would be possible to pay the 99€ using the VAT of Country1, and the rest of the payment using the VAT of Country2.

So, anyhow, if Jolla remains silent this regarding, I will ask directly as soon as the final payment has to be done.

And make it invisible to a more-than-just-casual tester.

Outlandish.

And the same could happen in Salo, too. You could also be killed by an airplane falling on your head.

Making all that stuff, incl. microchips (because of course they, too, could contain backdoors) might not even be possible in our current techno-economical world market, or if, it would cost orders of magnitude more. Like, literally add a zero to the price.

I bet even the Librem MAGA isn’t manufactured from scratch in the USA. And anyhow, why should I trust US Americans more with this.

you obviously do not know how VAT works. It is payed by the company in the country where the customer lives. There is no VAT in country 1 and VAT in country 2. In fact for the EU there are regulations that exempt companies paying VAT in other EU countries, but I am not quite sure if it is related to B2B or also B2C.
So in your case you would be charged the VAT of your home country and Jolla must transfer this amount to the financial office of your country.

Oh really? Please give the brand name!! Is the OS they are developing as daily-drivable as Sailfish?

Do you mean that all the banks in your country require Android or iOS to provide things like payment via direct debit, loans or physical credit card usage?!

Any online payment must be validated with a banking app in some countries.

Where can I have a Sailfish phone with similar specs for €210 please?

You do know that part of the price is used to Sailfish development?
