Kinda weird if you think that my xa2 could record (on android) videos 4k@30, but oh well, not a deal breaker too, just unfortunate…
Are we reaching a point at which a ‘Product’ Category would make sense. I know it goes against the current forum format, which is viewed from an OS perspective, platform, announcements, os version etc.
For newbies like me, here for the new phone, it would be great to have a product focused path to relevant information going forward. J2, News, bugs, App links etc.
Ignore me if it’s a silly newbie question.
PLONK!
That’s not totally clear from your numbers. If Sailfish runs faster on XZ2 than on XPERIA 10 iii, then the relevant benchmark seems to be the FP32 - and exactly here the Dimensity 7100 performs miserably in comparison
While FP32 can impact graphical performance under certain conditions on smartphones, it typically does not have a substantial effect on the day-to-day UI experience.
But it’s not really a fair comparison: the Snapdragon 845 was a flagship chipset in 2018 and still strong, and the MediaTek Dimensity 7100 is considered mid-end, although it’s still impressive.
Congrats, it looks gorgeous, can’t wait!
You can buy one right now and use it with the current generation of Sailfish phones so as long as the J2 keeps it that way it should be fine.
Sadly a slight downgrade over the 140 euro second hand OnePlus 9 (the X1 down to a 4th A78, 120Hz down to 90Hz, UFS 3.1 down to 2.2 and 4k60 down to 4k30) I got to tide me over while I waited for SailfishOS to become fully supported on the Xperia 10 V. However that’s an old flagship phone cheap because OnePlus stopped releasing new OS version so its not a fair comparison.
Still, with how un-cluttered SailfishOS is, a high end SoC would probably just be wasted.
To me the XZ2c felt unresponsive/slow. Its an OS issue and how it animates/moves.
Great news! Thank you. I look forward to J2.
The SoC is Mediatek Dimensity 7100 (MT6858)
How does this compare to the SFOS’ current Xperia line-up?
The Dimensity 7100 is so new we don’t have any real body of bechmarks yet. Hence we can only really look at the specs and the only clear difference I can tell is in the CPU.
2 Cortex A77 “big“ cores at 2GHz + 6 x Cortex A55 “little” cores at 1.7GHz (Xperia III) VS 4 Cortex A78 “big“ cores at 2.4GHz + 4 A55 “little“ cores at 2GHz (Jolla 2)
So the Jolla 2 phone should be a fairly sizeable CPU upgrade, double the RAM, a better camera, bigger user-replaceable battery, twice the charging speed, faster wi-fi and bluetooth.
Wonderful update - delighted with everything I see. Deliver it!
One question: “For the memory, we chose to go with a single-chip LPDDR4X RAM”
What does that mean for the bandwidth, particularly the “single-chip” bit?
i.e. does the 7100 support two memory channels, in which case we’re getting half the bandwidth…
One comment: ”We will confirm IP-rating later once we conclude durability tests.”
Waterproofing is a feature I value, I would like to know what the device is capable of.
Maybe a separate distro just for the video out, like in Maru OS?
Which Xperia is that? 10 V has A78 cores, so probably III?
probably could’ve been done
Which Xperia is that?
Wow, beautiful! Congratz to all the team ![]()
You have this review from gsmarena. Probably one of the first phone with dimensity 7100 :
That’s one gorgeous design. And yeah, the orange has indeed grown on me.
Yes, its the III which is the latest fully supported one.
