Jolla Phone update - lights on, technical bits and the schedule

Could it be that they have fixed that as we can see that they are using J2 with 5.1 version?

Edit. Thanks for update, looks really beautiful! Can’t wait to get mine, will be huge improvement from Sony 10 line-up and offer really usable phone for wide audience

Edit2. Quite sad that because of AI we couldn’t get the LPDDR5 + UFS 3.1 combo  That would have been great addition, hopefully won’t become that big of bottleneck in real life use.

I am waiting anxiously to get my hands on one too. Never had sailfish os device, my first time, and I am really wating for

Yes, and this solution is already proven to work on Sailfish. Take a look at the SimPro app on OpenRepos.
Having a second physical SIM slot in the J2 actually provides more flexibility, because you can still use an eSIM that way, or a second regular SIM, whatever you prefer.

@Jolla is aware of that

And more about the software stack:

Maybe those two threads should be joined? ( or renamed a bit))?)

It was already there (2009?)…

From what information I could gather on this chipset, it will be a general midranger and probably totally fine performance-wise.

Something that’s unclear to me, is its video capabilities. I only found information that it supports 2k @ 30fps. Is that true? No 4k? No 60fps? Thanks in advance for a short statement on this, @Jolla.

Good idea, thanks. Done.

Software can be added later but if the hardware doesn’t support it, you can’t do anything about it.

Thanks for the update. :slightly_smiling_face:

Will it supports quick charging?

Hello and welcome! I also think we will be completely fine with this chipset. I checked from Mediatek website MediaTek | MediaTek Dimensity 7100 and at least there is following information:

p

That is spec for display, I don’t know if you meant that or what camera is cabable of?

Dear Jolla team,

nice to see the development

I was one of the first ordering within the first batch. I assume the phone will be shipped by the end of june, or rather beginning of july.

I will not be at home during July. Will it be possible to provide an alternative shipping adress (within EU)?

Thanks!!

Actually this is exactly what I was thinking as well.
Might be in another EU country in July / August (who knows if there will be delays) so it would be nice to know if it’s possible or not!

Probably worded this poorly. I meant video capture capabilities, i.e. the peformance of the camera. (The 200MP mentioned on the official website isn’t really that helpful in that respect.)

I don’t really believe it is only capable of 2k@30fps, because that would be pretty bad/old tech, but that’s the only information I found.

Didn’t quickly find any information about that, but found claim that at least Dimensity 7050 is able to capture 4k@30fps so don’t know why better SoC wouldn’t. Apparently Dimensity 7300 supports 4k@60fps videos, so might not be too far fetched that 7100 supports too, but I don’t know for sure

Seems to be tied to the GPU, but it’s no deal-breaker for me personally:

Having a physical esim supplied would be a better solution than a soldered in esim. It gives you the best of both worlds.

Wow, wouldn’t have guessed that, good catch. Not a deal breaker for me either, but unfortunate for sure

Still a big step up from my Haewei P30 Android companion, happy with the specs as a daily driver for the next decade. Wife is still using and happy with Samsung S7 for daily use, so no need for any negativity… in my opinion.

SailfishOS runs very fast on Sony XZ2 Compact Port (Snapdragon 845) and faster than on Xperia 10III (Snapdragon 690):

So the XZ2c and 10III will eat dust against J2:
