Jolla Phone update - lights on, technical bits and the schedule

The latest properly supported one; The III

Didn’t exactly understood if the news post meant Usb-c video out wont be implemented on the HW side -which is ok if there are constrains- but at some point a new compositor needs to be written.

And it puzzles me given jolla also does automotive stuff and those fucking things have 10 screens nowadays.

Performance looks not that bad. I think with SFOS it would be good.

Edit: all other linux phones have even not so performant soc. Even Brax3, that really actual one with linux support have lover SoC.

Where there is a will… sorry let me rephrase

Where there is money, there is a way

Well in order to get money you have to have something people desire. That differs from person to person but at least we need something usable to begin with.

At least on the HW side things are moving. Something needs to start happening on the SW side also.

You say “While the memory prices are rallying like crazy, we managed to secure the initial batch with a purchase in end of January. The memory chips are made by Korean SK Hynix.”

As someone who supported the failed Tablet project, (and have ordered from the first batch) can you please elaborate on how you are you planning to ensure that you can deliver all pre-orders at the advertised prices? Both memory and chip prices are rising quickly so further assurance on the viability of the project would be welcome.

The timeline also seems to have been extended so updated details of when you will be expecting each tranche of backers to make final payments and when each batch will be delivered would help us understand the risks please.

Thanks.

Thank you for such good news. For Sailors that would like to enable Secure Boot - are there plans to make it available for the new Jolla Phone?

Oh WOW it looks nice, a masterpiece!
Can’t wait for the summer to be back on board! happy to see steady progress.
Half a year already now without Sailfish OS is a torture :grimacing: …inhumane!
Been using /e/OS and iodé and while they are quite nice…they just are not SFOS

ps. Pispala 5.1.0.148 spotted!

Absolutely great! The phone looks and sounds good. I too, like many others, can’t wait to get the device. I am excited as a kid again, to get to own this phone and the other half.

Yeah, that’s something I was hoping for. To many this is just a phone, to me is more than that it’s a pocket computer.

Probably it was something Jolla didn’t expect would be so desired when drafting the initital design, now it’s dificult to implement.

Very nice, keeping us informed about the process of the Jolla 2! Thank you!. Looking forward to the arrival of the first batch, I realise there is a lot of work to do before Sailfish is implemented and tested on the devices.
Some people are easily triggered to critisize, no matter what. Yet now it is important to go on with the project as you planned it. Wish you luck!

This is about the Jolla 2 only, not about a Jolla 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10

Being not very techsavvy, the software is important to me too. However, the advantage of a Jolla device is that it can be stabilised during the years to come, contrary to a new implementation on a Sony every two years.

Thank you for clarifying it.

I will be in a similar situation too!

Send an order cancellation request to shop@jolla.com with order details.

Hi.
I’m also was thinking about it even before New Year, but thought to wait for more information before deciding.
For this price specs are too low, very sad when other brand with the same very similar specs sell phone for 210 eur :frowning:

And still no information in what factory it will be assembled.

”Final assembly, software installation, and quality inspection of Jolla Phones take place in Salo, Finland. In the same city where Nokia once built the world’s most popular phones, a new European phone is now being born.”

EDIT: At least I’m happy to pay the premium for privacy and user experience. It’s also a small price to pay for an opportunity to get rid of user spying mobile OS’s. :slightly_smiling_face:
