I intend to design some 3D printed TPU case for it.
I feel you, my guy! Keep complaining about the big size and you’ll be warned to stop being a troll. Todays technology makes normal phones impossible to produce😁 Ask Joli Boiz. They have all the excuses for making this gigantic phablet, which they called a phone… Although 90% asked for a sub/max 6 inch display!
Yes, of course.
Remember, they gave us the reason: Every screen that is smaller would cost a lot more, because its not a “standard”-size.
Very true!
Altought it could be pretty sweet of @jolla to integrate that patch in an official OS setting option…
What are the actual ergonomics that a 6+ inch screen phone size breaks?
Hi all , just a question…
I have a Note20U (heavily modded , and it was a pain discover all the dirty stuffs were living of their self , so disabling tons of services, uninstalling and deleting a lots of stuffs etc etc is something i don’t want do anymore )
The stylus is something surprisingly useful and because of the wacom here is not possible , ok , but at least the wifi-charge why is so difficult to implement it here? (I mean technical reason)
Wow… you really know how to pic your metaphors. ![]()
Sorry if I’m asking this in the wrong place.
I have no experience with SFOS or Jolla. I have paid a deposit for the new Jolla phone and am looking forward to using it.
I’m not clear on the following: Will I have to pay a subscription for full use of SFOS once I receive my new Jolla phone? Is the sub required in order to use Android apps on the phone?
No on both questions.
The subscription is optional to support Jolla. Sailfish OS voluntary subscription
That’s great, thanks folks!
I would suggest a small improvement to the design:
The front lenses are not recessed from the circle surrounding them.
This means that they will not be protected, even against flat surfaces.
Well, as a person who learned typography in the last century, I can assure you that there are ideal ‘line lengths’ and ‘typeface sizes’. The 10iii is too narrow for a proper reading experience.
I hear you but a phone is not only a reading device.
But, that just underlines my point. I made a couple of games (ports) and those are better on a wider device. Long and thin is just not that usable in many contexts. Even the original wide format ‘70mm cinamascope’ was not as silly at the 16;9 … When is it better to have a long thin screen?
Just FYI i am not advocating long phones.
In a 120 by 62 frame (give or take 1-2mm) you can fit a ~5,3 inch screen which is large enough and usable with one hand. And again you are quite pushing it if you take into account womens hands.
This is if you assume that the phone will have 18:9 aspect ratio and bezel-less display.
While technically possible, this phone would have to be significantly more expensive than a typical base model 1.000€ phone these days, it would probably have a lot of corners cut to make everything fit (or not if someone dumped billions and they just design everything, but price would skyrocket), also very bad battery life, and probably bad thermals with the monster SOC it would need to have to justify the price.
I don’t care much about super tiny or huge phones as well, but majority of the women I see have 6.9” pro max phones. I believe if there was a big market, there would have been small phones available as well.
Making a bit thicker phone to compensate for battery wont harm anyone.
Apart from that you don’t need monster SoCs to have a phone that is nice to use.
Im new into the Game ![]()
It would probably harm sales though because you would have to make it sustainable and trim the initial loses.
The biggest problem is available parts because the market shifted to much bigger phones. If you don’t order what’s common in the market the cost would increase substantially.
If Apple tried it as a trillion dollar company and failed to get traction, i don’t think anyone else would want to try (and we see that already).
If you ask me, I would be happy with something slightly bigger than the N9, maybe even exactly the same if you lose the wasted space of the screen.
But realistically I don’t see that happening.
