The iphone minis sold in the millions. It might be a failure for Apple level sales but most companies would be more than happy with that.
The problem is that there is no small (sub 5,5”) phone available anywhere afai can tell. ZERO choice. There are even blackberry clones around. But zero small phones.
There is the niche phone Unihertz Jelly Star with 3 inch screen.
Thank you for the update. The phone looks slick and vibrant! I am glad that it isn’t as narrow as the 10 III. Woudn’t a smaller notch be better? Or the opposite, stretched to the sides? Or is that technically problematic?

Again, I don’t think the reason is that companies are not aware that a small phone will sell to an extend, but the problem is probably ROI compared to a much larger phone.
But you haven’t because if you ask an amount of people what a big phone or a small phone mean for them, the amount of different answers you get will probably correlate to the number of how many times you asked the question.
I loved my N900 but would I like to go back to that screen size? Definitely not.
On the other hand, the size of the C2 is by far too large for me. So what is big and what is small. I can’t even answer this question really for my own.
It doesn’t event matter anymore, clearly the plastic molds have been made.

When you sell the same thing as others (Android) you participate in a race to the bottom.

This is not in the specs so far.
There have been several suggestions for wireless charging add-ons, but we need to reach 10k pre-orders before Jolla commits to design for The Other Half. (TOH is a concept from the first Jolla phone, where modules can be easily attached to the phone to get additional functionality.)
I’d probably be using iOS if i was what you describe here.
To me it looks allmost perfect, good size (i have big hands) and the orange color looks georgeous. Great job Jolla!

The total disregard for ergonomics is something i will shit on for the rest of my life the same way i shit on anything unscientific (from antivaxxers, conspiracy theorist to flat earthers,), anything poorly engineered, non human centered design, and many more that make things not as good as they should be.
