There shouldn’t be any blur of the simple home screen view with pitch black background or in the terminal, should there?
Not that this is a big deal for me but I do find it peculiar.

Hey I wrote something about that just today in this thread
Yes. Those should not have that background shader.
I tested it with terminal in a dark room and there seem to be some glowing effect which is visible after ~1 second after turn off the lights. At first the background looks black.
I don’t know if it helps (didn’t receive my j2 yet), but is there a chance that you are talking about crushed blacks or black smearing, whatever it’s called like 10 III?
Blacks in this case look more like brownish-gray and wherever there is some transparency as well it has the same effect.
If it’s the same (at least that’s how it sounds) It is a software problem and it’s fixable. The workaround on 10 III as an example is set full brightness and then lower it back down. After than you can see pure black.
JP26 seems to be using BOE/Viewtrix VTDR6126 panel (at least mine), a typical budget AMOLED for 2023-2025 phones. Its expected to have some “backlight glow”, especially on major dark areas.
okay looks little bit worse on dark (I dont think its horrible), but under sunlight it should be little bit better. Is it worth it? maybe for Jolla it was.
its possible that Jolla can do (some) optimization to adjust things, but I wouldn’t expect major changes.
Personally I never expected JP26 to have any highend parts, just typical mid/budget stuff
Would it be possible to install OpenVPN Connect software through a USB cable from a laptop instead of connecting to wifi to download app from Aurora?
Yes, I would describe it as brownish gray so maybe it’s the same thing. It can be seen best when the screen brightness is low.
Feel free, if inspired, to make a youtube video of your review and perhaps make some money from the ads…
Just out of curiousity, don’t feel obliged to answer, but why not just keep a backup phone with Whatsapp & Google as a tool when needed and just keep the Jolla phone as your privacy tool?
ICYMI…
Hey. Where did you guys order the battery from? I wasn’t able to see it when I ordered the accessories before?
Ohhh I’ve read on a another post you got it from the Helsinki event?
Looking really carefully at the screen, at the booting screen and in the full screen video playback, I can definitely see some black glow. Which I find peculiar, too. Because even if the screen is of a budget type, the OLEDs I have seen and had in my life were driving brightness levels on a pixel level individually, so blacks were always black, as in, unused pixels that were showing pitch black were turned off. Hmm.
I was at the event, but did not see a replacement battery being sold there. Maybe I personally have just overlooked ![]()
I guess there is no official way for ordering batteries yet. It is only announced they would be available via the Jolla shop. Apparently batteries were sold on location at Day 1 event.
Thanks. I thought I missed something. Besides the day 1 event. ![]()
I had X10III and I would not say that it’s that we are experiencing in J2. It doesn’t look same way washed-out like it did with X10III. Thank you that you mentioned, should have myself mentioned it already in the post I wrote earlier.
This is what I think too.
It’s very ok in daylight as-is, but I would assume there is room for improvement for the display to produce deeper blacks - thus improving viewing experience in dark environment.
Furthermore would be nice if screen brightness in general could be set even a bit dimmer…if it’s possible…
I made one completely black backgroung image for Jolla Phone and another for Fairphone 5 for comparison. I opened them in gallery. I tap the icons to be visible so you can see that there’s other phone also, but it didn’t change anything. I also set same ambience on both phones before. Brightness I adjusted slightly to icons brightness look equal, FP5 I cannot set very low so JP was somewhere 2/5. I don’t know if this is the same thing you have experienced before, but this is what I saw on terminal windows also. But if it’s something like transparency effect, it should not apply for example when viewing photos.
OLEDs don’t have backlight glow, because they don’t have backlight.
Only LCDs have backlight.
Yes. But why is the J2 screen not completely black when showing pure black on the screen (terminal, black image …)?
