Would it be possible for a developer to create their own API for advertising and monetize their apps separate from Jolla? Has Jolla ever considered monetizing their App Store?

If I remember correctly, the author of Piepmatz, Fernschreiber, Wunderfitz, Funzel, Zasterbanker, and Fernweh used to have an API to purchase a paid version. But I guess it never paid off and he removed it.
