Complete crash when charging

REPRODUCIBILITY: 75% (often)
OSVERSION: 5.2.0.16
HARDWARE: Jolla Phone (2026) - jp2601 - jp2601 - 1.0.0.16 - aarch64
UI LANGUAGE: English (UK) (user: en_GB, os: en_GB.utf8)
REGRESSION: no

DESCRIPTION:

This is the second time this has happened out of three charging cycles using two different chargers.

Before going to sleep I connect my phone to the charger, but when I wake up it’s way past the alarm time (alarm did not go off) and the phone appears dead. Only black screen with permanent-on white led. No response to any buttons/fingerprint/re-connect charger. Needs holding power button for ~10s and then it starts to boot ‘normally’.

PRECONDITIONS:

Unknown, but I do usually only recharge my phone once it’s relatively low on battery.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. Plug in phone to charger
  2. Go to sleep
  3. Wake up late for work

EXPECTED RESULTS:

Phone charged and ‘on’, alarms go off on time

ACTUAL RESULTS:

Charge level shows in low 1x% range (https://forum.sailfishos.org/t/battery-percentage-indicator-stuck-way-below-actual-charge-level-jolla-phone-2026/), phone is in off state with permanent white led, alarms are missed.

ADDONS:

  • AAS Bluetooth Bridge: no

MODIFICATIONS:

  • Patchmanager: no
  • OpenRepos: yes
  • Chum: yes
  • Other: none specified

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Has now happened with two out of three times charging, on different chargers.

I expect that even if the phone has unexpectedly powered itself off, alarms still go off on time. Other phones do this by setting a hardware event timer that wakes up the phone to a minimal environment for sounding the alarm.

What kind of charger do you use? Your bug report sounds a duplicate of this other bug report: Charging JP 2026 does not work

One is an Aukey PA-T2 and the other Xiaomi MDY-11-EZ.

I don’t think it’s the same as the other report, the wrong battery percentage display appears to be a separate issue, as in those reports I haven’t seen mention of the phone turning off.

The battery itself might still have charged, I feel like it did last time. Can you tell from this output? (This is the current state after a few hours, according to UI battery dropped from 13% → 10%)

Mine also does this with one charger. Some older one. A newer ex-oneolus charger and a pd chrger work ok.

So what is best charger to new Jolla phone? In the forum there is lot of messages of failed charging.

In the forum there is lot of messages of failed charging.

It’s also a known issue. We need to wait that Jolla gives some conclusions about that bug.

what is best charger to new Jolla phone?

Ive been using Jolla for a weekish now with overnight charging. I havent had issues yet, and I have set charge limit to 90%. Maybe that could help?

Charge limit 90% is the default iirc. I have it enabled at least.

I searched what is best charger to new Jolla phone and I got 7 answers and none of them is right.

Did you read the whole topic with that title?
It’s unfortunate. Look my first sentence in my previous post.

You can also check/add the question in this week’s Community meeting topic.

I can’t read because I do not find it.

Not literal that title but here it is.

Thank you, I will read and follow that topic.

But as you said It would be nice if Jolla could let us know which charger is suitable.

As I wrote above you can ask them directly in this Thursday’s Community meeting.

I won’t be taking part in that.

Ther is no need for that. You can ask them anyway.

Oke, let’s see what happens next thursday. Thank you for your suggestion.

In the other hand, Jollas has a replaceable battery (easy).

This Thursday. But you need to write the question in the meeting topic.

Today I also experienced this. Luckily wife had backup alarm….

Experienced the same thing with my Aukey PA-T9 QC3.0 charger very often; hard crash, multiple attempted restarts to recover. Had to switch it for a UGreen PD charger and it stopped behaving like this.
