Community meeting on July 16, 2026

Please note new time slot

Schedule: Thursday 2026-07-16T16:00:00Z :world_map: :date:

Sailfish OS Community Calendar (ICS format)

Even if you do not participate, topics tend to generate discussion. I want to see discussion happening. Thus, I’m proposing that we’d use 10mins as minimum topic duration. Maximum 6 topics a week. We’ll continue with the extended 90 mins meeting duration.

Jolla to check action points from the previous meeting. We agreed today that we’ll start to follow up action points on each meeting.

Topic proposals for the meeting:

  • Add your name/nick using the template below to suggest a topic.
  • Indicate how much time you’ll need so we can time-box the meeting accordingly.
  • Please be as thorough as you can with your question/topic.
  • If you can’t make the meeting please ask and name a substitute.

It is expected that you show up and present your topic, or name a substitute and make sure they attend in your absence. These IRC meetings are for real time participation and live discussions, otherwise you can post the topic on here and get responses that way.

We need you to be present to clarify details in the topic, and to ensure the discussion is leading to the answers you are looking for! If you do not participate or your question/topic isn’t clear enough it will be postponed. Also: always ask for more time than you anticipate your topic needs!

Please have your topics ready at least 3 days before the meeting so we can prepare good answers. Topics announced afterwards will be postponed to the next meeting.

Template for topic proposal: (post your topic proposals as comments to this forum topic).

  • Topic: Development lang proliferation: Updated rust 1.85 & availbility of golang
  • Some details about the topic: I am sure that there are some apps that would soon require a newer rust (would be nice if Wisperfish would make it to store, wouldn’t it?) and one of these is librespot, the spotify client. It has been a while since that stopped working and the new code requires a newer rust.
In the same vein, there are other projects (such as netbird wireguard networking) which are coded in go and they aren’t easy to build on community OBS if golang is not available.
As someone who build dlang to be able to build a onedrive client, I do not think I would be able to do that with two more languages + runtimes & devtools and do that in a sustainable way.
I hoped that 5.1 or 5.2 would bring at least the rust update but there isn’t one…
Are there any plans to make these available?

Copying my question from the last meeting to this one as it was a bit of a late entry.

Hey! just a note that if I’m not mistaken the recurrence in the https://docs.sailfishos.org/Support/community.ics file is set to end on June 18th 2026 so the July 16th event doesn’t appear on it

Topic: Suggested update to online User Guide
Some details about the topic:
This is more a heads-up than a question.

Adapted from post by @JacobLS here Jolla Phone Day1 celebration event July 8 6pm at Narinkkatori! - practical info & FAQ - #199 by JacobLS

  1. The Home page screenshot there shows an app grid, not covers for running apps. I’d suggest using a screenshot with OSM Scout, Calendar, Media Player and other apps showcasing Cover actions. Maybe include some well-known Android app just to hint at the possibility?
  2. Maybe the App Grid description should mention pinning the grid at less than full extension.
  3. Specifically for the JP2026, like Jacob noted in his post, should there be a card in the box about installing SIM, charging and first boot?

Topic: Additional Ambiance controls
Some details about the topic:

Currently, Ambiances can only control various sounds and the background image used. I use the Situations app to also e.g. turn on Flightmode when I select my ā€œGoing to the Theatreā€ ambiance. This works, but is more convoluted than I’d like.

Instead, I would like to add any combination of the toggles that we can have in the top menu to an Ambiance. This would be a logical extension to current functionality. (I’m not suggesting putting all the features of Situations in the Ambiance system, although I think closer integration would be interesting.)

Jolla, what do you think of such an extension to Ambiances?

Topic: The Privacy Switch in relation to Ambiances
Some details about the topic:

There is currently a list of things the switch can control, and we have an interesting discussion here The free association Privacy Toggle thread .

I foresee a growing list of options in the settings for the Privacy switch, and an ever-growing list of requests for options to add. The subset that makes it into the settings will always be limited and a bit arbitrary.

I think Ambiances provide a good foundation for the UI connected to the Privacy Switch, even more so with the extensions I discussed in the previous topic.

My suggestion would be to

  1. Make new top-menu toggles for things that aren’t already (e.g. microphone?)
  2. Have a mode, where the Privacy switch is a shortcut for any single top-menu toggle
  3. Have a mode, where the switch selects an Ambiance (and returns to the previous ambience when the switch is disengaged). Use the extended Ambiance system as UI to control any combination of sounds and toggles. (In my example above: silent+flightmode.)
  4. Have a mode, where a selected app receives signals when the switch changes. Or broadcast these changes always to anyone who listens. (E.g. Situations integration of the Privacy Switch.)

This way, Settings | Ambiances would provide a unified UI for the more complex cases, and the Settings | Privacy Switch would provide the UI for simple cases.

It also would play well with the ideas you shared during the Day1 event, where TOH controls the phone’s various modes of operation. Use the Ambiance system as the UI for composing the settings that make up a mode of operation, and let users select the current mode by top menu, Privacy switch or TOH.

edit: As a side note, I think Ambiances provide better feedback than any of the small indicators at the top of the Home screen. A quick glance immediately tells me if I’m still in ā€œGoing to the Theatreā€ mode or not.

Jolla, does this make sense to you? What would be the challenges with this ide?

  • Some details about the topic:
The latest Community News ( Sailfish Community News, July 10, 2026 - Jolla Phone Day1) states that there are more events like JollaPhoneDay1 planned, with a call to community to help with organizing them.
Please specify briefly what the characteristics of such event locations should be. How many people should the venue hold, what are infrastructure requirements, do you want a local event organizing firm or do you have your own, …
An approximate Budget for renting a venue would also be very helpful[1] - understandable if we won’t get that info from you

  3. Some details about the topic: While some measurements exist in the official documentation, it would be great to have a CAD model of the new other half (for 3d printing and starting point for custom designs). Additionally a model of the phone backside with the pogo pins could be useful to model mating the pins properly. Could those be shared somewhat soon, so that we can start having fun with that?

Sorry for submitting this late, but maybe someone can answer this easily or we carry it over for next week. Can’t promise I will make the meeting as well, but just wanted to get some attention to the requests on the forum like Jolla Phone update - The Other Half spec - #104 by lhanneus and The Other Half Returns — Community Innovation Program - #556 by JPlexer

and to piggy back on your questions, can jolla orders be handed out there also like they did on July 8th?

Please be patient; the Jolla team has been on schedule so far. They still have until the end of July to dispatch batch 1

Batch 3 (that is almost as 1 and 2 combined) should be delivered by end of August and its mid July already.
Plus vacations that I guess they will start at some point.

It’s not like I’m dying to have the phone now, but your math ain’t mathing.

They said deliveries for batch 1 would start this week, bearing in mind that this batch is due to be delivered in July.
Let’s not get too bogged down in the details; let’s leave it to Jolla to manage these deliveries and their holiday arrangements.

Topic: Voluntary subscription not recurring?
Some details about the topic:
Sorry for the late question, feel free to postpone if needed.

I have signed up for the voluntary subscription in the Jolla shop. I intended this to be an actual subscription, not a one-time payment, and I think I registered it as such. However, it seems I have been charged only once.

So, to help me troubleshoot this, I wonder if this could be a limitation of the Jolla shop, Jolla’s payment processor or my payment processor.

details are important when you are using a forwarding address, new country tariffs, multiple invoices, etc. but haven’t received email replies from Jolla shop customer service, other than it is at our risk from a member on this board….

  2. Topic: ā€œI’m in batch X, and I’m away for a week at the end of Y, how do i coordinate on delivery?ā€
  3. Some details about the topic: A factor that arises on a 9-month pre-order backer project that delivers in the summer holiday period, but not really specific to my particular situation. This is a general question to clarify how pre-order backers coordinate with Jolla on target delivery windows and contingency if that cannot work. For example: I think I was the eighteenth backer on the pre-order page, which I presume makes me one of the very first batch of deliveries packed up for dispatch. Which is sometime in July. I’m in foreign parts 26th of July to the 9th of August. At what point can I expect a delivery window from Jolla, such that i can respond with: a) ā€œgreat, i’ll be at the door waiting for the delivery man!ā€, or; b) ā€œgosh dammit, i’m away, but at least i have a week’s notice to contact Jolla support and ask them to hold delivery for a fortnight!ā€ As said, this isn’t really about me, this is going to be an issue for many Batch 1 and Batch 2 backers over the July-Sept period. What i’m trying to avoid is a situation where people bite their nails in worry, have to be absent during delivery anyway, and then have Jolla shrug their shoulders a month later saying; ā€œWell, we did deliver it! Must’ve got nicked, innit? We’d recommend you submit a replacement orderā€¦ā€ For an extra Ā£100, with less storage and memory than the one we pre-ordered back in December.

Topic: Quick app switching gesture
Some details about the topic:
Sorry for the late question, feel free to postpone if needed.

The Quick App Switching gesture works really well and I find it essential in my everyday phone usage. Apparently, I’m not alone in this: Switching between 2 apps more easilly (eg password manager)

However, to enable the gesture one has to issue a dconf command in the terminal. Please, could we have a toggle for this gesture in the Settings app, section Gestures?

I am in your exact situation, I have contacted customer support on the 1st of June asking if it was possible to change the delivery address and proactively providing a new one; I sent a kind reminder on the 10th of July to avoid adding to many emails to the queue.

Unfortunately I haven’t received any acknowledgment from their side.
