Which can be done as per instructions because of a fresh, higher version, install of the rust compiler

Apart from that we need a more recent Rust compiler.

I know nothing provides rust >= 1.89, nothing provides cargo >= 1.89

Agreed. That is a transitive dependency if I remember correctly, so .. things may have changed (or not) with newer librespot.
