Community meeting on August 20, 2026

Please note new time slot

Schedule: Thursday 2026-08-20T16:00:00Z :world_map: :date:

Sailfish OS Community Calendar (ICS format)

Even if you do not participate, topics tend to generate discussion. I want to see discussion happening. Thus, I’m proposing that we’d use 10mins as minimum topic duration. Maximum 6 topics a week. We’ll continue with the extended 90 mins meeting duration.

Jolla to check action points from the previous meeting. We agreed today that we’ll start to follow up action points on each meeting.

Topic proposals for the meeting:

  • Add your name/nick using the template below to suggest a topic.
  • Indicate how much time you’ll need so we can time-box the meeting accordingly.
  • Please be as thorough as you can with your question/topic.
  • If you can’t make the meeting please ask and name a substitute.

It is expected that you show up and present your topic, or name a substitute and make sure they attend in your absence. These IRC meetings are for real time participation and live discussions, otherwise you can post the topic on here and get responses that way.

We need you to be present to clarify details in the topic, and to ensure the discussion is leading to the answers you are looking for! If you do not participate or your question/topic isn’t clear enough it will be postponed. Also: always ask for more time than you anticipate your topic needs!

Please have your topics ready at least 3 days before the meeting so we can prepare good answers. Topics announced afterwards will be postponed to the next meeting.

Template for topic proposal: (post your topic proposals as comments to this forum topic).

Copying over the questions from the other thread:

  • Name/IRC nick: @yusssufff

  • Topic: 5.2 : 3.5mm Jack status (and possibly usb-audio) on official Xperia 10 IV and V ports.

  • Some details about the topic: I think @mal did manage at some point to get the 3.5mm Jack working on the 10 V, but @mal was unsure to have merged the code enabling it (recalling here from his words in some community meeting about a year ago).
Do you know if @mal could actually merge those 10 V (and IV?) 3.5mm jack enabling code lines for the 5.2 release?
That would be really cool for the audio state of the Xperia 10 V…
Also i wonder, as a little side kick topic, if whether usb-audio (out -earphone- and in -microphone-) status may get polished on the IV and V Jolla ports in 5.2…

  • Approx. time needed: 3mn

and

  • Name/IRC nick: @maighstir (hopefully I’ll remember to join this time)
  • Topic: Support for WiFi QR codes.
  • Some details about the topic: The camera application does not currently know how to handle QR codes that supply connection details for WiFi networks (just displaying the raw text, which is better than nothing, but makes for another couple of steps to separate the password from the rest), nor does the WiFi settings page offer a way to read QR codes for that use, we have to manually type in the password. Being able to scan the details would be quicker than selecting the network and typing the code, as well as avoiding mistakes when typing. Can this functionality be added?
  • Approx. time needed: 10min
extra info added by @nephros:
  • Topic: Support for WiFi QR codes.

Something like this has been discussed in the past.

IIRC the particular implementation in the linked post was not met with approval. But I forget the reason, and can’t find a reference right now.

[EDIT] My - if you will - rebuttal to the arguments presented way back when:

  • Topic: Supported community ports
  • Some details about the topic: As the community ports for the Sony X10 IV and V are getting ready, what about the ā€œsupported community portsā€ to get an official and supported AAS on these phones? OR: What is the status ob the official Jolla port for these two phones?
  • Approx. time needed: 3 min
  • Substitute (optional): I don’t know if I can make it, so I just wrote down my question here. Maybe someone wants to take over….

Name/IRC nick: Meego-Junky
Topic: HBM of Jolla Phone 2026
Some details about the topic: Will there be HBM (high brightness mode) on Jolla Phone 2026? The current brightness of the Jolla Phone 2026 display is limiting in bright anvironments / outdoors in Southern Europe, thereby preventing the use of the device severely.
Approx. time needed: 5 min
Substitute (optional): cannot join in person, but I will be happy to read response afterwards, thanks for your consideration.

Name/Nick: drew/ellemmennoppi
Topic: Is Jolla missing out by not making the most of the Jolla2026 hardware?
More detail on topic: I believe there’s an old saying that says, ā€˜the screen is the window to the soul’. Also, ā€˜beauty is in the camera of the beholder’. There’s some grumbling that the J26’s OLED isn’t giving users the black blacks users expect. Also a bit of griping that the camera needs further callibration. Since Jolla finds itself in the fairly novel position of owning the architecture can/should it do more to dial in the best possible experience? Is there any scope for allowing the community a way to create and contribute screen/camera tuning profiles - by somehow exposing some low-level parameters, or even via judging a beauty contest of new profiles created by jolla?
Time needed: 5 min

  • Name/IRC nick: Systematics

  • Topic: Jolla Phone 2026: Volume (Down) key intermittently unresponsive

  • Some details about the topic: As in the thread has been describe there are problems with the volume buttons. Multiple people has been reported this problem and verified/confirmed it with the csd-tool. Has Jolla investigated this issue so far? What will be the plan to fix this issue.

  • Approx. time needed: 1 minute and 3 seconds

  • Substitute (optional): I won’t be able to join.

  • Name/IRC nick: Systematics

  • Topic: Jolla Phone 2026 will be getting hot during Android Video Phone call

  • Some details about the topic: Is it expected that during a video call with Signal (Android App) that device is getting super hot? Especially in the top right region. In this case, when the front camera is being used. WLAN is being used during the call. No other Apps. It is getting normally hot after ~7-9 Minutes. I do getting a notification that I need to close every app. Can the phone getting be damaged? Is that expected?

  • Approx. time needed: 2 minute and 18 seconds

  • Substitute (optional): I won’t be able to join.

(apologies if this has been discussed before. I did some searching but nothing obvious came up. I might be bad at searching, that is possible. In that case please kindly provide the links to some threads so I can track those!)

  • Name/IRC nick: nicov84

  • Topic: Improvements for the integrated keyboard

  • Some details about the topic: Coming from an Android/iOS background, I dearly miss a few features of the AOSP and iOS implementations, most of which can be toggled:

    • double tap for space
    • keep backspace pressed and drag for deletion backwards (with text stored in clipboard for recovery)
    • select word and hit shift for capitalization(s)
    • hold spacebar and drag around the cursor (trackpad mode)

Will these features be introduced? What can we do to introduce them? Can they be somehow sponsored?

  • Approx. time needed: 5/10 min

  • Substitute (optional): nope, just me

  • Topic: Option to postpone shipping :package: to forwarding address companies
    • Some details about the topic: Since some customers are utilizing :open_mailbox_with_lowered_flag: forwarding address companies, :folded_hands: can jolla :orange_circle: provide the option to delay the shipping to those interested, until the dust issue and I3C board are resolved?
    • If yes, can jolla :orange_circle: confirm through :e_mail: email communications?
      • :white_check_mark: This will save Jolla :euro_banknote: money on shipping twice
      • :white_check_mark: Eliminates having an extra :mobile_phone: phone returned in your stock for perhaps refurbishing
      • :white_check_mark: Customer saves on not having to pay the forwarding address company admin fee’s and shipping twice
      • :white_check_mark: Score’s points with the green’s :globe_showing_americas: and Greta
  • Approx. time needed: 330 seconds?
  • Substitute (optional): N/A

I only now realized this meeting overlaps with Helsinki Night of the Arts.

Continuing the discussion from Unofficial placeholder for the next Community meeting:

I would love to, but I can’t stay up until 2AM for these meetings and then leave for work at 6AM :frowning:

I’m sure the question will still be addressed but it would be nice to be able to contribute to the discussion. FWIW if Jolla are still open to the idea of allowing AAS on the 10IV and 10V ports I worked on, I am very happy for them to reach out to talk about how we achieve that - just, do it in the morning UTC time please!

I’m even more exited about the offical port of Xperia V getting close to fully functionnal SoonTM… With a working audio and Camera2api allowing to unlock the camera, we are almost there!!! Thanks a lot @mal !

I would of course love that to, but the only sign I’ve seen is the community port so far. If @mal is doing something in the dark, and come up with a working port, I’m happy to joying in.

Edit:
I’ve had my X10V laying around for some years now, and I actually gave up.

In my view the 10V was always more functional than the 10IV due to working call audio and no reboot-on-unplug issue.

Would be great to see the official ports progress further, but unless Sony’s blobs get better it sounds like 10IV will always be left behind? And given at this stage it’s no extra effort to maintain the 10V community port based on the changes in the 10IV community port, I still plan to keep supporting both.

Very happy to hear though that AppSupport is still on the table, thanks Jolla. Now we just need to get it on the phones!
