Community meeting on 28th August 2025

Please note new time slot

Schedule: Thursday 2025-08-28T16:00:00Z   :world_map: :date:

Sailfish OS Community Calendar (ICS format)

We agreed 5th June to try an afternoon time slot. Hopefully this works better for community members from central Europe. Let’s adjust time slot as needed.

Topic proposals for the meeting:

  • Add your name/nick using the template below to suggest a topic.
  • Indicate how much time you’ll need so we can time-box the meeting accordingly.
  • Please be as thorough as you can with your question/topic.
  • If you can’t make the meeting please ask and name a substitute.

It is expected that you show up and present your topic, or name a substitute and make sure they attend in your absence. These IRC meetings are for real time participation and live discussions, otherwise you can post the topic on here and get responses that way.

We need you to be present to clarify details in the topic, and to ensure the discussion is leading to the answers you are looking for! If you do not participate or your question/topic isn’t clear enough it will be postponed. Also: always ask for more time than you anticipate your topic needs!

Please have your topics ready at least 3 days before the meeting so we can prepare good answers. Topics announced afterwards will be postponed to the next meeting.

Template for topic proposal: (post your topic proposals as comments to this forum topic).

  • Topic: Python update
  • Some details about the topic: Python 3.8 is now end of life and no longer receives security updates. Security updates are not that important, but many projects have dropped support for it and now require a newer version. Because of this, some of my Python-based apps cannot update to newer libraries and have to stick with older versions. I have seen a branch with 3.11 update, but there is no pull request. So, when is the Python update planned?
  • Approx. time needed: 5 minutes
  • Substitute (optional): I unfortunately won’t be able to make it, but will read the logs later

  • Topic: Sony Xperia 10 IV/V adaption in light of Sony no longer selling smartphones in Finland
  • Some details about the topic: While Sony hasn’t officially announced an exit from Europe, it has confirmed to Finnish outlet SuomiMobiili that Xperia phones will no longer be sold directly in Finland. This could be explained as an early sign of a wind-down of Sony’s smartphone business. For owners of the Sony Xperia 10 IV/V this means (more) uncertainty. Does Jolla has more information on the Sony business and can it be shared with the community? Is the adaption for the Sony Xperia 10 IV/V influenced by this new situation? I’m aware of the anouncement of a dedicated post for the situation of the Xperia 10 IV/V. If no information can be shared in this meeting, can you ascertain that it will be added to the dedicated post?
  • Approx. time needed: 5 mins.
  • Substitute (optional):: I unfortunately won’t be able to make it, but will read the logs later.
