DESCRIPTION:

After a while the detection of my audio output stops randomly working after a while. A reboot always helped. Deplugging yhe headphones stops music, so there is at least somehow a recognition given. But it is not possible to route the output correctly. Using audio output chooser nothing happens.
Also killing pulseaudio seems to do the job.

PRECONDITIONS:

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

1.audio output via headphones stops randomly, audio is routed via speaker
2. reboot or kill pulseaudio
3. everything fine again

For the specific reason that I lost my NuraPro BT buds (very angry) I tried to use my Shure wired earplugs on my 10iii v. 4.5.0.19

The connection is totally flakey and unusable. I initially assumed that the HW port on the phone was defective, however the Shures work on my Mac.

I haven’t tried the pulse audio suggestion

YMMV

Same here:
After some hours, audio does not get routed to the plugged-in headphones, but to the speaker (not to big one, but to the one you press your ear on when using the phone as a phone).

Unplugging the headphone and replugging it again does not help, it just switches between the big speaker and the “ear” speaker.

What helps is starting a phone call: The “phone” app seems to fix audio routing.

Never had this issue with my Xperia X, on the 10 III it happens frequently.

Edit: Random audio drops on wired headphones - plays from top speaker instead seems to be the same bug.

I confirm, I experienced exactly the behaviour on my 10 iii this weekend multiple times

Looks like this happens every time the 10 III is idle for some time with the headphones plugged in, and then a sound is played (i.e. because of an incoming message).
After this, the sound to the headphones gets falsely routed to the ear speaker.

It is also mentioned here, including the “phone app trick”:

And there:

This bug is around since 2022 - that’s three years now. It still exists in 5.0.0.62. And it is not even mentioned in Jolla’s “known bugs” section…
I’m willing to help, if someone needs some logs or whatever, just let me know.

It is really annoying to have to call myself several times a day to get headphones working.

Update: It seems this is not a Pulseaudio issue: Pulseaudio shows that the audio gets played on the wired headphone, but the sound comes out of the ear speaker.

Is there some diagram with the audio paths (sinks and sources) across the software layers in SailfishOS? It would help discussing the various audio issues and focus the investigations.

Would be interesting to know what the “Phone” app does to get audio fixed. And why it does that.

Just to ad to the list of affected users: I confirm I have this issue on Xperia 10 III running the at the time of writing latest 5.0 OS.
Listening to wired headset is important user case, I did not expect this issue still to be there upgrading from 4.5 to 5 :-/
Sertings Utility to restart audio system doesn’t help, so to reboot.

You don’t have to reboot: Just make a phone call to someone (e.g. yourself).

The bug can be reproduced very easily:
Turn screen off, wait a little, let the phone play a sound (e.g. by receiving a message or email), and voila: Headphone does not work any more.

The SMS-gets-received-multiple-times-bug also only appears when the screen is off. This makes me believe that Jolla’s power saving code for the Xperia 10 III is simply defective. Unfortunately it seems like they are unwilling to fix it.

IMHO it would already be a big step forward if they would at least mention those annoying bugs in the release notes.

I have this problem too. I just kill pulseaudio everytime it happens, no need to reboot or make a phone call. But an incredibly frustrating issue indeed.

Since the update to 5.0.0.62:

  • I have this bug 50% of time when connecting to the headphones/car audio via audio jack;
  • Youtube video play stops erratically (see thread about ESR91 browser issues);
  • I have many times issues to complete a normal phone call.

This is ridiculous!

System: Utilities: Restart Sound
does not help?

It does help. That is the only way to fix it.
