Not received my phone yet, but I’m thinking ahead and would like a privacy focused browser which I can also run on my Linux PC, so my question to you all is as in the topic header - will Waterfox work on Jolla 2026?

It seems there is no release for SailfishOS.
But there is for Android.
OTOH I recommend first to checking for alternatives. Native browser for a start. It’s privacy focused too.

My problem is finding a browser that works on SailfishOS and Linux. i.e. my Jolla Phone and my PC.
Than you are probably out of luck. There are few native SFOS browsers. And really no big ones. But there are browsers with all 3 different big browser engines! The default browser uses gecko - just like waterfox/librewolf, there is Atlantic, a Vibecoded implementation of apples Webkit engine (used in Safari) and there also was a chromium port but i forgot the name. Chromium is the engine of google chrome, edge, …
So no native version of the same browser on linux and SFOS.
You could only use a browser that has an android version like firefox android or fennec and firefox esr on linux destop.
But generally they will look different and the biggest similarity between them will be the engine and the name as the phone ui and formfactor forces a completely different GUI.
Thats why I wanna know what do you want to be the same between the linux and SFOS browser? If you just want it to be the same name you will need to jump on a browser that has an android and linux version, but privacy focused forks tend to only support one of the 2 different versions due to the UI difference and stuff. Maybe I can help you better than

And there is in Store the app Ielig Web. This app runs on the exact same engine (Gecko = Mozilla) as the native browser but provide a simpler and faster user interface. And e.g Ielig Web supports import & export of bookmarks in the (Firefox / Chrome) HTML format so you can exchange your bookmarks per file with your desktop browser.

The native SFOS browser is a port of Firefox ESR to Qt so that the UI feels graphically native. It is not a fork. It will always follow Firefox, just very much delayed by the difficulty of this task, and the limited resources of Jolla. In practical terms, the browser of the Jolla Phone (2026) is Firefox ESR 115.

Getting a more updated browser is my top wish, but not all share the wish, as you can simply install the browser of your choice on the Jolla Phone through their Android version.

So, main browser is based off firefox esr 112, and will be soon upgraded to esr140/153, so i would suggest you to endure with that at the moment, i bet it will be great once it reaches the new esr
That said, to answer your question, i’ve been using waterfox for android on my xa2 with sailfish and it has been working great, althought that was a necessity since esr on the xa2 is still at 98 i think…

Bookmarks can be shared across browsers for decades.

I cant explain bwcause I dont know whats important for you personally
-If you want the same look as a desktop browser its not going to happen probably neither AAS or native
-If you want just your bookmarks imported its going to work on AAS and native just fine. Maybe firefox accounts bookmark/ history SYNC is also possible on the native browser, but idk as i dont use it. Maybe it works on said other native gecko engine browser. It will definetly work on AAS with Fennec from F-Droid store (tested that a while back).
But maybe its a different thing thats important for your browser and that is the reason that the browser must be the same on Linux desktop and SFOS. If you could tell us that important thing, that reason it would really help us to understand your question and give you a better answer (:

If you have anextcloud you can also sync your bookmarks to native browser via cloudmarks app

I just prefer to use the same browser on my phone as on my PC.
For now I have installed Waterfox on my PC, so I’ll just have to see when I get my phone.
What is the workflow enabled by this “same browser” option? Let’s say you have installed the browser “Firefox” (as an example) on a a phone and on a PC. What do you do next about the bookmark thing?

Both will have the same bookmarks - that is not the issue. Having both browsers the same is what I would prefer,
But how do you do for “both to have the same bookmarks”? Just installing “Firefox” in several devices does not result in them having the same bookmarks. You must have been doing some synchronisation strategy for example the Sync provided by “Firefox account”. Or manually copying the bookmark file from one place to another.
Using something like firefox account or any other similar for any purpose… Well forget privacy. Remembering we are talking about privacy focused phone..
