Jolla Browser ESR 115 experiences and issues

This follows @filip.k ‘s hint to open a separate topic for sharing experiences with the new browser ESR 115 coming with SFOS 5.2 and the J2.

I have yet to receive my J2 therefore I cannot share personal observations yet but I am curious about experiences with the new browser in general.

Having this topic separated may also help improving the browser because issues should be reported here.

Search first?

Why not continue in Gecko ESR115 development

I did search - but for ESR 115, not for ESR115. Sorry, my fault.

There is a slight difference between the threads though. The instant topic concerns user experiences with the new browser, while “Gecko ESR115 development” directly addresses Devs. Some user may not think of the new browser when reading “Gecko ESR115 development”

When, on 5.2.0.16+, using upload file filter with both audio and video file extensions allowed it seems to only give access to audio without option to navigate elsewhere to select video files. Not very extensively tested, so would not say it is like this, but maybe someone already stumbled onto this and potentially can confirm?

Issue: links to Instagram “reels” cannot be played in the browser. The same links work on PC (Firefox, Chromium, under linux). It says the “intent” protocol isn’t supported.

app.electricitymaps.com is tendentially slow compared to the android version (on firefox),

especially when you put the different layers on (wind, solar..)

I tested the ESR 140 port in openrepos and it worked much better, but ESR 153 version worked much worse, there is some regression on that version currently.

very slow, much slower as stock browser on my X10III! Slower as any android based browser.
no support for drm cotent.
edit: using JP2 now.

I’m sure this was already reported. And isn’t the main issue that the website tries to throw you over to the app without even asking?
