VoLTE support in SailfishOS?

Well, I didn’t see any such commit yet in the repo for XA2 : https://github.com/mer-hybris/droid-config-sony-nile

FYI all, VoLTE calling, SMS, MMS and Data working on T-Mobile USA and US Mobile using a Xperia 10 ii. See details here: VoLTE provider support - #110 by hackman238

10 III works out of the box, but still having MMS issues… 10 II and 10 III both had issues working MMS with T-Mobile from what I’ve seen.

This week I’m travelling in Austin, TX again, and now my home provider Elisa EE sent a message “calls only possible via VoLTE”.

Except I have never gotten X10II or now X10III to register with VoLTE on any roaming mobile provider in any country, ever since VoLTE landed in SFOS.

“4G calling” stays in endless pulse loop :frowning:

They aren’t kidding either, I tried a tested this morning (for a reason), and calls fail immediately after dial attempt.

So if anything unexpected happens, I’m not in a great position to call anyone on mobile network. Data connection works great, and most people are on apps, so maybe not a deal breaker. But what about emergency calls?

@rainemak what are the chances of escalating VoLTE vs roaming on the roadmap? What if something simple is missing in implementation code for roaming, and SFOS travellers are suffering for years because noone looked at it?

cc Sailfish in the USA and VoLTE abroad - how?

Have you tried 2G. I have a Xperia 10 II and was in Portugal lately, 3 or 4G was not working properly, i suspect, because they are not really using 4G or 5G technique, but something virtually. With 2G i had no problems, but yes the connection was quite slow…

2G is either entirely or mostly gone in the US. The last carrier using it, T-Mobile, has promised to end it soon™, and it’s been working poorly for voice service for quite a while already. The last cutoff date was last September IIRC, but they’ve blinked before.

Come on, what did you check?

I was in Lissabon in January. X10 III with Vodafone had 4G. But providers and areas may vary.

I was in Algarve. the provider was NOS.
Yes 3 or 4 G were practically unusable like network came and failed in second loops. @amaretzek What i meant, some providers and also in some countries. They offer “5G” infrastructure, but its no really existing infrastructure, but upscaled 4G networks. Forgive me my missing knowledge of 4G or 5G networks, but with my device with SFOS at that place, my phone was practically unusable…

True, I guess if shiznit really hits the fan in some situation, trying to make a 2G phonecall would become an option.

But at a 10x higher priority, SFOS VoLTE layer needs a fix for roaming.

Between Lisbon and Porto I get 4G with DIGI and 5G with Lycamobile, on a 10iii. However, VoLTE never registers and the connection falls back to 2.5G during a call.

We previously knew that Meo did not work for VoLTE. You added data about NOS does not work.

Note that NOS does whitelisting (at a point in time their support forum said they activated VoLTE for all models but maybe they meant all models that they know about, or all that are retailed in Portugal). Their support page Como ativar o VoLTE | Forum NOS has a compatibility list https://www.nos.pt/content/dam/nos/assets/pdfs/Terminais_VoLTE_VoWiFi_NOS.pdf . Sony and Reeder are not there, so no luck for SFOS. There’s Fairphone though so one could try with the community port.

The fact that a small brand like Fairphone is in the NOS whitelist makes me think it would be worth for Jolla to contact the Portuguese operators and let them know they exist. It shouldn’t be too much to ask from the operators to whitelist at least Sony.

I have a NOS SIM that works in Algarve reliably with 5G and VoLTE on a Volla Quintus and before with X10iii

You mean X10iii with SFOS or with the original Android?

If you would be able to confirm in a new test, you could add that to the wiki table VoLTE provider support

I mean with SFOS for sure, I sold the device in summer this year, but the time I have used it was stable

From the linked table I an unsure if I tested SMS out, I rarely send SMS, so I cannot tell for sure, and that is why I did not entered it into the table and then I forgot about it (remember now). I will later have a lot, if a question mark for SMS out can be entered into the table.

Great to know that VoLTE has worked on the 10iii with a NOS card. I don’t feel like spending 20 € on a their cheapest pre-paid SIM just for test, but I keep in mind.

It is a contract card, dunno if it makes a difference. Some things are different to Northern Europe, in PT it is difficult to get Multi-SIM.

I just entered it into the list, I needed to do it on a PC, which took some time because I was traveling
