I left my Jolla C2 powered off in the drawer of my bedside table for approximately one week.
Upon attempting to use it today, the device did not power on. I connected it to the charger, assuming the battery was discharge, but it indicated a full charge (100%).
I then observed that the original silicone cover no longer adhered properly to the phone. After removing the cover, I discovered that the battery had swollen and consequently bent the rear metal panel out of shape.
I am usually not the nervous guy, bu the house next door burned down this year due to an empty laptop battery. Laptop was old and it was stored in the cellar.
Since we are surrounded by old batteries these sort of fires happen from time to time. An airtight metal case might make things safer. These old cookie boxes will do the job for the moment.
I had the same, although I was using the phone almost daily. I made it my second device, because since some month there were so many problems, that I could not use it as my main device. I thought it is because of bugs… now I believe that most issues were because of the battery. Regarding Bluetooth issues I know it for sure. And it was the cause of a highlighting circle on the screen.
I don’t know how this was triggered. What I have noticed in the past was that when watching Youtube videos, the phone became quite hot (used the cover!).
My C2 has the same problem…
It’s definitely a poor quality hardware to have such problems after less than a year of use…
Hopefully, next gen Jolla phones hardware will be better.
I suggest to open the phone and remove the akku cell and give it to hazardous waste as soon as possible. Then you can search for replacement battery calmly and so save the phone.
