Sailfish OS for Fairphones devices

Is it dropping while plugged in? Something unusual is definitely going on then.

No, no not while plugged in. Just doing nothing but then drop down 15-20% is to much. But I did a total reinstall this evening, install some apps, so curious for tomorrow morning.

@mive not that good as yours. And this is only Wifi, and GPS most of the time off, no bluetooth.

Excellent news ! Once again, thank you for all the work :star_struck:

I think that Wifi is draining the battery on the Fairphone 5. If the phone is on 4G or 5G drain is normal, but on Wifi with a lot of Wifi point in the neighbourhood it really drains a lot faster.

Port for fairphone 5 looks great from what I can see. I cannot find any information here about some kind of android emulation. Unfortunately, I need my banking app to run. Are there any plans to support eg. waydroid on fairphone 5 ?

Thanks

No android emulation yet, and maybe with a new Waydroid? I wish Jolla licensed android support to ports. Till then just like me do banking on your PC  (or use the browser, if possible)

@mal I got a few questions. Sometimes charging is not working, or after a while it not working. Then I need to power off and charging is working again. any idea what this can be? And I have problems to setup a WireGuard VPN connection with Proton VPN. OpenVPN no problem, but WireGuard just not connect. Is this a port thing? Because I have someone in the Telegram group that can connect with WireGuard (not a Fairphone)

I will need to have a look at the charging issue, and another USB related issue also. I think WireGuard might need some additional kernel options enabled, I’ll check if all of those are enabled and I will enable those if something is missing. Edit: I checked and wireguard is missing from kernel on both FP4 and FP5, I’ll add it there.

Thanks! So in alpha4 is is present? Then a total reinstall? Or just the zypper thing?

No need to reinstall, it will be just a regular update using zypper. It will take some time to build and I also need to test that everything still works, I decided to add some other changes also to the kernels.

Is the fairphone repo down? I get message about /hw:/fairphone:/fp5/sailfishos_5.0 is not reachable

Yes, community OBS is not working at the moment, it is being fixed.

I’ve installed AAS from the Xperia 10 V on the Fairphone 5 port and it’s weird: I can download and install F-Droid, from that install Aurora and then other apps but then for the other apps (like a browser) networking doesn’t work.

So it’s almost there.

How did you get AAS? I cannot buy it with a Fairphone, or can I?

My FP5 with SFOS on T-Mobile USA has recently stopped downloading MMS messages and I get an error instead. AFAIK, these are pictures and group texts. Outgoing picture MMSs do still work. I haven’t changed anything in my MMS settings, and I double-checked them with old screenshots for sanity. I haven’t changed my carrier or plan. Could the problem be T-Mo be trying to send RCS instead? I know SFOS can’t do RCS, but would T-Mo know a FP5 running SFOS can’t?

And if that’s not it, what is? Any troubleshooting suggestions?

Edit.
I tried turning off wifi and cellular data to see if anything changed but no difference.

Then tried swapping SIM over to my backup flip-phone running Kaios. Group texts, photos and group photos can be received from google voice in browser on my PC. Swapped the SIM back to see if anything is different. Don’t know why it would be, but :person_shrugging:

Looks like they drop support for MMS? And over to RCS, and that means Google. But I am not sure. Here in the Netherlands MMS support is dropped many years ago so only SMS left. And they support RCS, but in practice this means only can be used by the Google Messenger.

It’s in the first sentence of previous post.

edit: It’s in the first sentence of my previous post

Hi all,

Just logged in here to say thank you – flashed my FP5 directly from /e/OS to SFOS without a single glitch (maybe aside of a joyful sound coming out of my device at 1st boot (just kidding..))

My experience until now is really fantastic, it’s smashing to have access to ssh on your device, tcpdump etc etc it’s such a 2026 experience in fact.. anyways thanks to all of you for enabling this / bravo !

One question I may have would be this one; has any of the FP4/FP5 users been able to successfully install and mount a WireGuard tunnel ?

I followed this guide here: Installing WireGuard | SailfishOS community wiki
But not a single UDP packet seems to outbound the black mirror geared toward the other end UDP port set within the wireguard config.. Endpoint DNS resolution is fine but nothing happen on the wire after that.. Tried as well with direct IPv4 endpoint:PORT no change.

Again, a big thank you all, feels good !

Cheers,
o.
