Sailfish OS email client is super

@martinbook85 : Every mailbox has an address. Many providers offer the option to create additional alias addresses to this main address. If someone sends a mail to this alias address, this mail is also stored and available to the owner of the mailbox in the same way as mails to the main address. Sorting/filtering must be done by mail clieent, e.g. Thunderbird.

Technically, an alias address is, that on the mail server 1. the alias address is set up as a valid address, but without an own inbox mailspace, and 2. that mails to the alias address is stored into the inbox of the main address, and 3. that mails with sender = alias address are not filtered as spam when sending mails via the SMTP server of the main address.

If you want to send a mail from an alias address, you must have several ‘identities’ set up in your mail client. An identity is an alternative set of personal data like real name, senders address, reply-to address, footer text and so on. SFOS Mail client isn’t able to do this.

GMX allows it. There you can set up alias addresses via the webmail interface, in the personal settings.

I’m not sure 7of9’s explanation is correct, regarding identities.

In any case, email identities have been around almost as long as email itself and I have never heard of a provider (or software) not supporting them.

I don’t know how I have missed this my whole life. Looked it up and understand it now. Would be great if it could be incorporated in SFOS.

Re-installed SFOS on my 10iii, and attempted to login in yahoo address.

Succeeded using the quoted advice back in 2023, but failing this time.
For ref: the same credentials successfully login me in via the browser - just not in the email client!

Steps:
Restore backup
Go to accounts
Click into Yahoo account
Enter credentials and Accept
Completes
Go to email client - says “Updating Account”
Wait ten minutes while the sand time runs…
Eventually times out saying something like “credentials need updating”.

Happened three times now. What gives?

Unfortunately a common problem. Completely delete the Account on your device and reconfigure it from scratch.

I have similar problem with my e-mail account (not Yahoo) but deleting and configure new don’t help. Maybe it is needed to delete it in some db?

likewise to Kuba above, I deleted the old account and tried recreating but it won’t pass the credential check and either timesout or fails.

is there any element of advanced config that needs to be specified for yahoo/ymail?

Did you select “E-Mail” or “Yahoo” when adding your account?

learn my lesson two years back (above), selected email this time. cheers.

[Restoring e-mail accounts is b0rken in SFOS …]

This has been reported on TJC six years ago and transferred to this forum five years ago. And to my knowledge, it isn’t even tracked by Jolla.
If you invest a lot of time into how this backup should have worked you can split all the components and try to restore them one by one, but you should definitely exclude e-mail from that and re-create those accounts instead.

i still have the same problem even deleting the old account, and re-adding it from scratch. it won’t connect.

Did you succeed to create the account in the Settings app? If “it won’t connect” means “no”, you might suffer from this undead bug

For the record: this time it was indeed Yahoo related (password authentication has to be enabled there first).

it was the alternative yhaoo password for external connections. i’d forgotten that was necessary.

I would love to see in the future update.

  1. Swipe left to delete and right to mark as read or unread insted of press and hold for the pop down menu (pop down menu could stay for other options like move to, reply or forward etc.)
  2. Dark theme.

other that the above its perfect. I love it.

I guess swipe gustures are not easy to implement together with current swipe UX.
I tho also eager to have dark theme. I usually set OS theme as darker ones, and my eyes are killed each time I open an email

I just thought about it and you right, because there is swipe left to go back and swipe right to go folders option.

i have the same problem with apps without dark theme option. :joy:

Thanks, keep up the good work.

Pretty sure there’s a Patchmanager patch for that.

I tried to reboot phone when it is showing times out error (trick from TJC) and after reboot the account is added but mail app shows Updating and that’s it.

What?how? With .62, still messages are displayed with pure while background
