Resurrected Jolla Weather App No Longer Working

Along with many, I celebrated the return of the long lost Jolla Weather app.

After installing it following upgrade of my Sony Xperia 10 iii to 5.1.0.7 and then to 5.1.0.8 it worked great for a few days.

Then this morning, after doing nothing in terms of changes on my phone, I noticed the weather had disappeared from my events view. In settings/event view the option to display weather is now greyed out with the message ‘install weather from store’.

But the weather app is installed. Upon loading the weather app all I now get is a white screen and nothing else.

I uninstalled Jolla weather and re-installed it, but exactly the same things happen as above.

Has anybody else experienced this or know what I can do to get it back?

Strange. Works fine for me (same phone and version).

And Jolla Weather continues to work without problem on my Xperia 10v on 5.1.0.8 as well, but not on my 10 iii.

I have yet to upgrade my 10 iv or XA2+, so we’ll see what happens with these devices.

Working OK on my 10iii

For me also works w/o problems on my 10iii.

Works on Xperia X10III for me too.

I have seen reports from people with odd problems related to the update being half-finished. Things like AppSupport not working or no network connection. Maybe a half-finished update is causing trouble for you, too?

I don’t have that issue, but the app itself stopped working properly for me and it only opened to a blank white screen. Uninstalled and reinstalled and that seemed to solve the problem.

Yes, that’s exactly what happened to me, but it removed the weather from the events view as well. Sadly uninstalling and reinstalling made no difference in my case.

I’ve just upgraded my Sony Xperia 10 iv to 5.1.0.10 as well and it seems to also be working fine on this phone as well. Its only my 10 iii that doesn’t work.

Hmm… Don’t think so. The upgrade was working (mobile connection, WiFi, AppSupport, calls, all apps, etc) fine for several days before the weather app screwed itself. The phone still works fine (its my ‘almost but not quite’ daily driver) - it just doesn’t have any working weather app/display.

I don’t know how to tell if you have a half-finished update, but this does seem specific to the Weather app.

This is what I get when I start Weather from the command line

So I get a number of (apparently) benign error messages before the app fetches the forecast from met.no.

Could you edit the top post to use the bug report format? Or maybe easier, create a new post using the bug report template (either through the forum or using the Bugger app). We can then ask moderators to move this conversation there.

Please include the output from the app as run from Terminal. Copying text from Terminal is a pain, so instead start Weather like this
$ sailfish-weather > sailfish-weather.txt 2>&1
This will produce a file with the output, which will be easier to paste or attach here.

Thanks. I will try when I get back home (I am away at the moment and do not have my 10 iii with me).

I was reluctant to report this as a bug as it seemed, at the time, that this issue was only affecting me and therefore could have been something I inadvertently did to my phone. But seeing as we have at least one other user (@willmason5 ) with the white screen weather app problem, maybe there is a bug out there, albeit not a very common one.

To expand on what occurred, I installed as normal and added my home town which added fine and worked as I’d expect. However when opening weather there was a continual spinning circle, and after a restart or two it was just a plain white screen.

Of course as you know I uninstalled and reinstalled and it worked fine, though I’ve no idea what the spinning circle was doing, nothing extra loaded and worked the same as it did when it was there.

I had the continuously spinning circle exactly once the first or second time I opened the resurrected weather app.

The city I had set also randomly disappeared the other day and I had to set it again. Haven’t had the white screen yet though.

Oh, that was actually already a bug long before the Weather application stopped working, too! Interesting that despite the change in weather providers, it still seems to occur.

Try finding out where Weather keeps its configuration and erasing it? Unclear if uninstall also erases user data, sounds doubtful. Symptoms listed sound a lot like some unexpected configuration parse failure, which is quite certainly some kind of a bug to fix, but maybe gets everyone over the hump itmw?

For me the Events View widget always says “No network. Tap to retry.” even though I have a network connection, and the widget appears functional.

Hi everybody :waving_hand:

I use a C2 and was wondering, where I can find this ‘Jolla weather app’, since it does not appear in my Jolla Store.
I already searched the threads, but, unfortunately, did not find an answer or any hint to answer my question.

Could anyone explain this to me?

Thank you very much in advance

What happens when you just search “Weather” in the Apps section of the Jolla Store?

On which SFOS version are you?

Hello all,

The same situation with me, I cannot find this app neither in the store nor in installed apps.

My Sailfish OS version is 5.0.0.78 on an Xperia 10 II.
