Who still needs voice calls (wifi or otherwise) on a phone these days? I thought I am old. ![]()
I know right?
Anyone that sends me consecutive messages for no reason instead of calling, I just send them back ridiculously long voice messages as punishment ![]()
One thing that I would like and no one has requested because everyone thinks of it as just a phone is display output through USB-C.
This allows to use the phone as a mobile computer, conected to a dock. It is a functionality of the PinePhone Pro that I really like, and it is missing of most Linux mobile devices.
Of course this means that some support has to be available in the OS, and Jolla might not be interested in this at the moment. My argument for it is that this support can be very useful for future larger display devices like a tablet, which I think it’s feasible using the announed hardware of the new Phone.
in five+ years of dailing driving Jolla phones i have never had usable gps navigation on my XA2Plus and 10iii. device never gets a useful lock.
also never seen the gps get a lock on my two other jolla phones either (Xperia X and 10ii).
XA2 was indeed bad but never had the smallest issue with 10III.
I wonder how is it possible that seemingly two identical phones running the same software result in a totally different experience?
Hardware.
I the phone is brought used, or if it is old, it can have had chocks.
These chocks crush the contacts along the antennas paths and the signal is too weak at the end of the path. Dust/dirt can also prevent a good signal conduction.
I have fixed many XA2 and am using the GPS every day or week, at work.
Works well ![]()
Fixing recipe, with pics here.
Ah, so it’s not really Sailfish related at all but would have happened on stock Android as well, if I understand this correctly?
Wow !
You described exactly the problems I was having with my XA2! My 10 III is starting to do the same thing… Thanks for this great tutorial! ![]()
me too…

That is in fact remarkable. In the 8 years I am using Xperia X, XA2 and 10 III I constantly used all the phones for navigation throughout Europe. After a few years the antennas of my XA2 degraded (There is a fix for that. Clean the contacts and it works again.) Edit: Link to XA2-Fix: [How-to][Hardware] Fix XA2 GNSS(GPS): Let's Try harder
Since eight years GPS works as it should over three different devices on a more or less daily basis. It’s GPS after all so it does not work inside buildings and it takes some time to get a fix esp. after e.g. landing in a different region. But it works.
As well as SMS btw. I cannot say anything about MMS since this service is obsolete for years and Vodafone Germany sends you an SMS with a pointer to a website, where your MMS content is temporary stored,
My phones always had a stock setup. No hacks, no patches no magic. Bought them, flashed SFOS and used them.
Yes and no.
In theory, Android should have the same problems. But Android relies on different technologies to get a geo position, where Sfos has GPS only.
It’s possible to enable working A-GPS by some simple tweaks. Then GPS position fix occurs within few seconds. But this requires a running internet connection.
Oh shit. I’m still using it…
very mundane and routine in fact.
when it comes to navigation, i’m fortunate my wife has an android phone.
and as i’m on my fourth SFOS phone (two as daily drivers), i have long since adopted standard Jolla approved practice of checking functionality on the original android hanset before I installed SFOS.
this functionality did work before SFOS, and did not work after SFOS.
Oh, great!
I must admit I’m a bit outdated but still interrested on how to achieve that.
I guess a small search on the forums search tool with “a-gps” as keyword will help me. (as soon as my e-lazyness will decline)
New motto after RTFM:
RUFGIW
(reflash until f… GPS is working) ![]()
(edit: if hardware is ok, it will work, for sure)
Information is here:
enjoy!
Yes, physical privacy switches.
I’m going to buy this phone.

Hello everyone. Feels good to be back in touch of the Jolla community after 12 years. A quick question, will this Phone be able to ship to the UAE? As I currenly live in Dubai and also pre ordered the Batch 3 voucher.
