Next gen Jolla Phone

no of course not, but I think you need to find a good balance between price and performance.

Its a niche product. I’d be good with a higher price as long as it fits my hand and works properly.

Why even wish phone for less than 350€, when there is C2 supported for long time at 300€ price? Why have two low specs device when you could ask another option from other tier. If you want mid-tier phone, expect at least 600€ price point (IMO). Price is something that Jolla just can’t push to the point where it is comparable to mass produced Android phone and they really shouldn’t if we want to see them to stay afloat and grow. They have to (or at least definitely should) add at least 50% margin for those units to make it worth the effort as they sell the units in 1000s (in my hopes next gen Jolla phone could sell in 10 000s). Low specs devices just aren’t that attractive for everyone (nor that profitable to Jolla), mid-tier is the level where Jolla should at least aim for.

The above phone was just picked as an example for somewhat decent hardware for a low price  . Of coure the jolla thingy would be more expensive, but something with similar specs shouldn’t cost more then 450-550€ (and the above seems to be a major improvement compared to c2 [again just as an example]

ZTE nubia RedMagic 10 Air sells for 450.

And ZTE sells the state of the art 6.85" RedMagic 11 Pro for 600 EUR!

Joli Boiz should ask ZTE to produce for them same phone but smaller with last year specs and start selling it for 450 euro. It will become a bestseller.

Please not. Don’t want a phone with implemented backdoors - no matter how cheap it is:

But on the other hand a phone with 45 seats would be great.

I’m not sure if this would fit in my pocket.

I have to admit this is not much better. Anyway whenever it comes to cheap and China I think you have to pay the product in another way just like with the “gratis” services from the US.

On top I want people to get a fair loan for their work. Because I want that for me as well. That’s as well a reason why I most of the time prefer to pay a little bit more, even though I know that is no guarantee. But at least I leave a chance that it is like that. If I always buy the cheapest, on the long run this means nobody is willing to pay my salary anymore.

Missed this, but an updated phone with better specs is an instant buy for me.

You can fit and live in it so it might worth it. You won’t be able to get it indoors though but thats a price you have to pay.

No batter explosion may be the Best upgrade for Jolla C3. My C2 was broked by swalled batter…

More than 10 years of “development” and not a single fully functioning device close to Nokia N9.

Katastrofa

Battery tech is not a solved problem. In the past two months both the batteries of my laptop and phone swelled. I replaced the one in the laptop and i need a new phone.

Can happen to any device more or less. Irrelevant to the next phone.

I do not know how many man-years the development of Nokia N9 took. In any case, it will be much more man years that Jolla could ever spent on any device.

Having this in mind (and using my often failing office iPhone) I am pretty impressed about Jolla’s achievements. (Although I miss some features (and native apps) and am annoyed by some bugs of SFOS)

you are probably hitting the point
when jolla was created they capitalized on this background
my own feeling is that most of the early developer from this team left the ship since that time
and the few new ones are overwhelmed by the task (i do not say that they are not good guys)

hence maybe the solution is to put the whole thing open source, creating a true community
something like ubuntu touch that seems to grow at a much faster pace than jolla

Somehow doubt it would help, see purism and all fully foss options on pinephones, 5 years now and still far from daily drivable (and in case of ubuntu/canonical their CLA fiasco means a lot of same foss crowd are now treating them like the foss purists treat jolla, ala lxd->incus for example of that), why would a mysterious bunch of free developers suddenly materialise out of thin air to fix sfos if they failed to appear and do that to pureOS, plasma, postmarketos etc etc

I’ve read that for the third time now today.
