Next gen Jolla Phone

ZTE nubia RedMagic 10 Air sells for 450.

And ZTE sells the state of the art 6.85" RedMagic 11 Pro for 600 EUR!

Joli Boiz should ask ZTE to produce for them same phone but smaller with last year specs and start selling it for 450 euro. It will become a bestseller.

Please not. Don’t want a phone with implemented backdoors - no matter how cheap it is:

But on the other hand a phone with 45 seats would be great.

I’m not sure if this would fit in my pocket.

Well, maybe then an expensive copy of Angela Merkel’s iPhone (also Made in China btw)

I have to admit this is not much better. Anyway whenever it comes to cheap and China I think you have to pay the product in another way just like with the “gratis” services from the US.

On top I want people to get a fair loan for their work. Because I want that for me as well. That’s as well a reason why I most of the time prefer to pay a little bit more, even though I know that is no guarantee. But at least I leave a chance that it is like that. If I always buy the cheapest, on the long run this means nobody is willing to pay my salary anymore.

Missed this, but an updated phone with better specs is an instant buy for me.

You can fit and live in it so it might worth it. You won’t be able to get it indoors though but thats a price you have to pay.

No batter explosion may be the Best upgrade for Jolla C3. My C2 was broked by swalled batter…

More than 10 years of “development” and not a single fully functioning device close to Nokia N9.

Katastrofa

Battery tech is not a solved problem. In the past two months both the batteries of my laptop and phone swelled. I replaced the one in the laptop and i need a new phone.

Can happen to any device more or less. Irrelevant to the next phone.

I do not know how many man-years the development of Nokia N9 took. In any case, it will be much more man years that Jolla could ever spent on any device.

Having this in mind (and using my often failing office iPhone) I am pretty impressed about Jolla’s achievements. (Although I miss some features (and native apps) and am annoyed by some bugs of SFOS)

you are probably hitting the point
when jolla was created they capitalized on this background
my own feeling is that most of the early developer from this team left the ship since that time
and the few new ones are overwhelmed by the task (i do not say that they are not good guys)

hence maybe the solution is to put the whole thing open source, creating a true community
something like ubuntu touch that seems to grow at a much faster pace than jolla

Somehow doubt it would help, see purism and all fully foss options on pinephones, 5 years now and still far from daily drivable (and in case of ubuntu/canonical their CLA fiasco means a lot of same foss crowd are now treating them like the foss purists treat jolla, ala lxd->incus for example of that), why would a mysterious bunch of free developers suddenly materialise out of thin air to fix sfos if they failed to appear and do that to pureOS, plasma, postmarketos etc etc

I’ve read that for the third time now today.

If you are wortied about that then you can’t use any smartphone at all.

No one wants it but it’s how it is.

I remember darkly, in 2014 and related to Mrs. Merkels phone scandal, there was shown on TV an especially hardened phone for top politicians etc. from manufacturer Thales. Only one short cut on some news TV station and never seen again. Does anyone know more about especially hardened phones from Thales?

Maybe this is of interest, not yet seen all content of homepage.

Yes so my three points are: 1-mid range cpu (C2 is low end), mid range build (GGlass, some waterproofing, Xperia-alike), when C2 is low end hardware, and a price of maybe 100, 150eur more to compensate…

C2 is a community phone and all is fine with low end hardware and cpu in that regard, its a testing device for the enthousiasts in the community.

The thing is Next Gen needs to have 2000 pre sale. And that is just the start, much more than 2000 devices would ideally be sold at the end. I really dont think (but i may be wrong ofc) that we can have 2000 pre sale with a price above 450eur, or as @attah mentionned, with a screen at odds with market habits (sure the C2’s 6.7’ i can understand feels too big, but less than 6’ will sell only to the 50 small-screen-vocal-people in this thread i fear…see the vote results in that regard).

Yeah. We have heard intensively about that C2 of yours. That was a lot of crossposting on top of that indeed.

Please keep it in your thread thank you.

We all know now that your battery has swollen. Customer service was the one to reach for guarantee (if you bought the phone first hand) not the forum i think, they are the ones who can propose you eventuelly a replacement unit, not us.

You can also google ‘iphone swollen battery’ to realise thats a worldwide thingy. And its not a thing we can reply much about cause it all also depends on how the user possible missused his phone (if one forgets a phonr under the sun wellll)
