Next gen Jolla Phone

One thing that isn’t as big of a feature, but if you can, please make the sim try not require a sim card tool. There is no reason for that usually and I really don’t like needing to use a tool, when it shouldn’t be necessary…

What about 5G? For me that is really important.

Thats an OS problem. I run it on one of the fastest ports and it feels sluggish.

If you follow the links then you’ll discover that all of the suggested variants would have 5G, except for the EDC (EveryDayCarry) that would exchange higher speeds for better coverage and longer standby time.

for me feels ok/good (but i use a old moto g2) until this happens

then ui stutters/lags for a short amount of time before running normal again (sailfish version is 4.6)

edit:
would be great if there is a way to completely turn off compositor

I live in New Zealand. I’ve used and loved Jolla, Xperia X, Xperia 10-II, and now C2, and I hope to stick with Sailfish. I have some issues with the C2, probably software, but I’m very happy with its size and power. I thought it might be too big–women’s pockets are smaller than men’s–but it fits fine, and the extra size makes it much more usable. Don’t think I could manage anything bigger. The power button is almost in the middle which means I often turn on the phone on accidentally when I put it in my pocket; please keep the buttons nearer the top. Yes, I’d love to have LEDs again, and double-tap to wake, and turn over to silence.

I hope planning for the next phone doesn’t take focus from SailfishOS development…

I’m looking for a new device to add to my collection and am currently deciding between waiting for this potential C3 or just buying a C2 now. A few thoughts, though (none of them are deal-breakers by the way, just preferences):

5G dual sim with VoLTE would be great.
Fingerprint sensor is a nice touch.
I’d like a smaller screen, maybe ~5". Loooong rectangle (10 IV/10 V) and chunky phablet (XA2 Ultra) are both unappealing to me, personally.
Good performance is also quite important to me. C2 apparently is a bit sluggish. I’d want a flagship phone to be beefy and snappy.
Replaceable battery would be a good selling point for repairability.
Internal storage does not have to be larger than 128GB as long as there is an SD card slot.

I’d be happy to pay up to around €600 for a potential C3 depending on the specs.

The ability to limit charging at an adjustable level, e.g. 80% is desired. Some community ports miss this option although the hardware is capable (under Android).

Hello

I am considering buying a Jolla phone, but there is no rush

Do we have any idea about the release of the next generation, please ? Should I wait ?

Besides, is there any chance that Sailfish OS will be ported to Fairphone 6 (or 5) before

Thank you for your answer

In the 3rd paragraph of the original post they mention Q1/2026 would be the earliest time window for release.

As far as I know, Jolla has nothing to do with the Fairphone ports of SFOS, but someone will correct me (in no time) if I’m wrong.

There’s a community port for FP4 and FP5 right now:

That is true, a community port appears to be in the making in some stage, as noted somewhere else in this forum.
But community ports have certain limitations you should be aware about, e.g. Waydroid instead Jollas app support (at least currently), not the latest release potentially, etc.
If these differences are significant to you, must be answered by you.
I use a community port as daily driver since something like 3 months and I am happy with it. …

Thank you very much for answering me !!

I made a mistake : I though that SailFish OS portation was also made by Jolla

I noticed the last post on the SFOS for Fairphone community is nearly one year : I think I will wait for Q1/2026

Thanks again !!

Be aware that Jolla timeframes are always very optimistic.

Yes, Jolla definetly masters time shifting

Here i go with my top 3 priorities in order (like this post if you agree):

1–Mid range CPU (fluidity in the class of Xp10V).

2–Price around 400eur (okay to have downsides in other things for that aim eg storage, sensors etc)

3–Mid range ‘build’ specs (gorilla G, water resistance etc) for ‘some’ durability.

Mid size smartphones (4.7-5.7”) are unclaimed niche at the moment. To me, the most important factor is ability to use it with one hand. If it comes out without:

  1. 65-68mm width
  2. ~5.5" screen size
  3. 3.5mm jack
  4. 12+ GB of RAM
To me it will be dead on arrival. Don’t miss your chance to tap on that market.

I would highly think at least the price point more. Sony Xperia 10 V has costed 449€ in Finland with VAT. Of course hoping/dreaming is good thing I think price under 400€ is not realistic request with similar specs as with Xperia 10 V. Jolla also need to make quite good profit per phone for it to be feasible. I think the C2 represent that well and I don’t think Jolla should lower the margins in the next phone.

As there is C2 option for those that dont want (or can) to pay so much of the phone, I personally think next phone should cost at least 600€ for as to reach similar specs as with Xperia 10 V. This way the price Jolla gets (VAT0%) is around 450€ and makes it possible for them invest 250-350€ for the HW. Personally I think that will achieve lower mid class HW and Jolla should push the price up even more, maybe 100-200€. People could finally buy upper class device which would be attractive to wider audience.

Wider audience could then boost Jolla and SailfishOS much more. SailfishOS deserves good hardware to really show it at is finest
