Next gen Jolla Phone update - 12/25

A President would likely be hard (they are not allowed to do that kind of stuff I assume), but some bigger reviewers would be nice.

Thank you very much for this update! I kind liked a lot of @pherjung suggestions!

In my opinion something which doesn’t add cost too much for you as I hope to see profits better utilized with OS development. Free units for reviewers don’t sounds that bad of idea. I am hoping there will be live community meeting again in the summer, so maybe custom beer isn’t that bad of idea

But for now, enjoy the well deserved holidays! Merry Christmas and happy new year <3

Nice idea! Pres. Stubb is a clever man. He performs well on the world stage. A Dutch journalist had an excellent interview with him.

aaah, I see! I have one!

A T-shirt that says: “My friend has a Jolla”

Agree. I still use a XA2 vanilla, which appears to be on par with the C2 speed-wise. Yeah fast enough for Sailfish-apps, including pure maps. But people seem to forget that when using a browser on the present-day web, things get slow real quick(hah). Really slow. Really annoyingly slow, on an XA2. Even Github is chock-full of javascript these days.

I expect an unannounced new 7000-series SOC to be a step up from the current top-of-the-line. So, I take it as good news that Jolla managed to choose a yet-unreleased model.

Seems they’re getting a Cryptosmart Mobile, basically a Samsung Galaxy with an additional cryptography smartcard in SIM format.

If you want more sales, there are a number of volunteers outside you current market willing to go.

Only need to ensure full emergency calling on LTE to get white listed.

Unfortunately I’m not sure how hard to get the whitelisting done.

On a compatibility list I quoted in another thread for an operator in my place, Fairphone and Nothing are present. So it’s possible even for small brands. But it might cost sending them a phone for testing. If it’s 2-3 operators in each of ~30 market countries, that’s some money.

I don’t think that Jolla people are the ones enthusiastic about saving 40 bucks. We will never win people by discounts. Signatures in TOH, a Beany or something will do more for less. If you are a cheapo it’s grandmas iphone or a chinese droid. We can’t beat that and these are not our people.

“I am the first one” in front and “My friend is the second” in the back?

How about ”I made my friend buy a Jolla Phone, and all I got was this lousy T-shirt”.

Made me laugh :joy: .

That is really an idea very UNLIKE any other.

In general I do not wear clothes printed with messages, logos or any text …
but for this nice idea I would make an exception…

Just out of curiosity, since I am totally unfamiliar with the subject: can I simply cut my OpenPGP smart card down to size, insert it into the second SIM slot, and use that slot as a generic smart card reader, or is it restricted to SIM cards only?

I first thought that nothing because it’s pure joy to spread the word but now …

front: “My friend has a Jolla”
back: “ I have it too”

As the phone will have battery and backcover replaceable, I doubt that it can be made waterproof.

Been doing as much as I can on Reddit and Mastodon to get some more sales but they are the only social media sites I use

Phone might not need to be waterproof, more like water resistant.
Like from wet hands and such.
I remember, when the phones did not have any IP rating, at least I was lucky to keep it safe from moist. But I used them in light rain and such.

More that water resistant (which implies a rating), I’d say splashproof.
