Basing it on a modern pop-up-tent platform would even make it portable. Accessories could include LED lighting, cooling fan, electric heating and a charger (with separate kill switches); flags with velcro backing (for different markets); and a RF-shielding flysheet for privacy.
I think we should delete that whole discussion in Next gen Jolla Phone and start completely from scratch within this thread.
Would it be alright to have my cup holders installed in your telephone booth? The bigger ones in the front like @jojomen wisely pointed out?
And again: What about the package? We will have different color options, will we?
This joke is becoming old. Please create separate topic for venting.
Plus an extra thread for specifying the new phone? Just asking.
Would be nice to have stereophonic sound like latest xperias
I think it would be a very big plus ![]()
If this is really the one and only deal-breaker… then I want to say: Had a similar problem, purchased a GrapheneOS phone 3 months ago and it also has no headphone jack and no option to choose another device because of GrapheneOS compatibility. But in practice it turned out that using an USB-C sound adapter with 3,5mm jack is full sufficient replacement for the headphone jack. It’s only a very small device. Have my good old Marshall earpieces connected and no need to use some BT BS that is a lottery if it will work and that needs extra battery and/or charger.
Under condition that new SFOS device will have full USB-C support including external USB soundcard…
Well, it is possible, but it is better to not need an adapter. I have a 10V in my drawer and when my C2 is too old, it may be possible to use the 10V as my new phone
- luckily it has an audio jack.
And what would be really cool is if the new smartphone were delivered to buyers *before* Free, the mobile operator in France, switches off 3G. My x10iii isn’t VoLTE compatible because of a little commercial ‘war’ between Free and Sony. And I don’t plan on changing operators because of the rates I’m getting.
Thanks for the update! About 6” would be a good still pocketable and one hand use size!
I’d ask for a quality product that lasts for years even if it’s a little bit more expensive. Good screen and as little compromises on things. As you said with lower volumes the prices would be a bit higher to similar device, I’d rather pay less than more. But if you magic up a amazing device, I’d be willing to part top of the line prices… not anything close to 2000 euros, mind…
On top of being a communication device and a pocket computer (USBC video out would be nice extra), its the only camera most have and a wallet too (EU digital wallet is coming).
A true contender that’s good to use for 3-5 years is what I want!
USB-C earphones are available people.
With apple moving to usb-c we have a “standard“ interface to plug stuff in across all OSes.
Hum… I just last week got Volte to work in France with Free on a 10 II, I’m not sure about the III but here was the steps for the II:
devel-su
cd /vendor/oem/modem-config/
mkdir S8683.1
cd S8683.1
echo “mcfg_sw/generic/common/default/vl/global/mcfg_sw.mbn” > modem.conf
You can follow it on that thread:
FWIW, volte works with the C2 and Free, out of the box.
Worse than those cases (IMO) is carriers drop network technology and a mostly working device becomes e-waste or a tiny tablet.
Exactly this. Nowadays there are also dumbphones for 80 Euro capable for 4G + VoLTE and also with WLAN access point. So still only one SIM card is needed. one is able to use this dumbphone for 4G phone calls and the old SailfishOS phone as a pocket tablet for e-mail, surfing the web and using all the apps, connected by WLAN to the 4G dumbphone.
With the luxury of 2 SIM cards, phone and ‘tablet’ work independent from each other.
Mine got black while sitting on my desk.
I opened the phone and broke the PCB while trying to take out the antenna board.
I’d be surprised if it were not there.
What I’d really love would be a hardware keyboard like the E7 had, but I guess that’ll remain a dream in todays smartphone world (and I can fully understand that it’s unfeasible for the Jolla2).
There already is one with SFOS approval available here.
I highly doubt that you’re still going to get anything from fxtec directly, afaik they’re long gone. But yes, the pro1 was a nice one for a very niche market. Still got mine.
I wouldn’t advise buying that. I bought one and it never shipped. And by now, the lack of VoLTE compatibility would make it useless to me where I’d be using it., (Given that, hopefully it never does ship now and end up at my door custom taxes due.)
