Next gen Jolla Phone update - 11/25

Well lucky you, but I had two Xperia 10 IIIs (one from me and one from my brother) where I had to replace the display. Both with the same error. I dropped my phone from “calling” height (and I’m not that tall so that’s not so far up) and the screen, although having no external damage, was completely black and didn’t show anything anymore. Same for my brother’s phone…

It doesn’t have to be behind a plastic cover. Its ok if you have to undo some screws to get to it and replace it. Having to remove screens, and motherboards and being glued on is a pain.

An IR port would be nice.

N900 used to have one, along with a replaceable battery, QWERTY keyboard, and a resistive 3,5" screen size with a stylus! but then it was 2009 ;-(

conclusion, dont ask community, just give proper device, else you end up with wishlist like:

  • multiple mirco sd slots
  • upgradeable ram, cpu (maybe mainboard), camera
  • 18650 (or maybe 26650) battery (not sure but arent thouse these thick round batteries??)
  • multiple sim slots
  • ir
  • tv tuner
  • HDMI out to connect to monitor
  • adapter to hook with workstation add on
  • hardware kb
  • headphone jack
  • multiple usb-c ports
  • foldable screen
  • everything replaceable yet slim

nonetheless list is nice

I’d go for two displays. For the case I’m drunk I can use front and back. And Iif I drop it when I’m drunk and one display brraks I still have #2 :joy:

You forgot the community’s wish to match or go below of the price point of current Xperia 10…

I used my N900 with several spare batteries from 2009 until 2013/2014, so basically until the Jolla J1 arrived. In parallel, I used also the last real Nokia…the N9 as a work phone. At that time, I discovered that it is surely more sustainable to have an easy or easier way to replace the battery. It was a nightmare to replace the battery of the N9. However from 2027, the EU regulations require again a user replaceable battery. Therefore, I believe Jolla would follow this and the community shouldn’t worry too much about it.

Well, I read in post one of this thread:

>> That combined with our expected volumes we won’t be able to match the prices of common high-volume Android devices out there.<<

So, no high tech cheapo.

It was sarcasm referring to, that even though most of the forum users live in reality, there are still a few people in these discussions, who would like to get something awesome for a lot less than what Jolla can offer.

I am sorry. The mistake is completely on my side.

I’d love an FM radio.
Also a useful complement of these partly working SMS alerts.
And during internet/mobile data temporary breakdowns.
But mostly because it’s great, simple, easy :face_savoring_food:

I hope the chip is present on the WIP PCB board

This.
I think the front cup holder should be smaller, adapted for an ice cream cone or an espresso, while the back holder should be for a caffè latte.

Slightly more seriously…

I think it’s fine to ask the community for their wishes, and it’s fine for the list of wishes to be long and contradictory.

Letting the top 5 wishes define the product would of course be a mistake. Different wishes and needs have to be balanced and the final product has to be an attractive whole. Jolla never asked us about what would be hard requirements (has to have OLED display? fingerprint reader? etc) or to rate the importance of e.g. replaceable battery vs. waterproof shell vs. device size, but I’m pretty sure they follow the discussion and will be able to extract some useful information to help them choose.

Ideally, they could get back to us with one or more refined designs and ask for our feedback on those. That could be a way to avoid a frankenphone none of us would buy…

That’s a shame. Sounds very close to perfect and it would have been a definite pre-order, but the lack of an audio jack is likely to be a deal-breaker for me, as it’s been my most-used feature on every smartphone and smartphone-adjacent device I’ve owned.

If it’s happening this way I guess I may have to start thinking about the new community port to the Xperia 1 and 5 series as a possible upgrade path.

I wonder why nobody is asking for a phone booth as an official accessory? That’s a real market opportunity these days as they get rarer and rarer on the streets in whole Europe.. You even could offer different country options..

On a more serious part of the discussion: there always is a fine line between what wishes can be fulfilled and what wishes appear and take room when asking any community. As long as everybody agrees that Jolla can only realistically fulfill some part of the spectrum even when they take every single wish seriously, it’s fine. So: not overpromising would be something I prefer over unfulfilled expectations.
