This is the way…
I’m sure this forum will be flooded with messages within minutes of the first emails being sent.
I get my email!!! Happy!!! ![]()
I payed already
who is going to Helsinki?
Me. Wait…I’m in Helsinki already! ![]()
Lucky you. I was seriously considering coming over from Berlin but I will have to work and I hope for a life stream.
In case you didn’t see it already, your email should arrive within a week!
Thanks for the unpaywalled Wired.com article. Hopefully it gives hope to potential USA buyers:
Jolla is considering a separate US launch in the future, though right now, it’s focusing on the European Union, the UK, Norway, and Switzerland.
Every Android phone I’ve owned gets less functional with every ‘upgrade’ to a new version of Android, as Google lock it down further. Things I could do years ago are either now only a dream, or else require jumping through ever bigger hoops. Google has made it clear they don’t want power users, nor people who want to use (more secure & private) offline functionality rather than the cloud (aka someone else’s computer).
As a Linux user, SFOS is way more functional than Android in most of the things I am interested in. Yeah, it doesn’t have every modern convenience, but it’s close enough I don’t think I will care too much.
Modern convenience as in a browser that you can use and browse the web as in any distro?
(obviously without using android support in which case you are better of with an android phone)
I also missed out of the extras, bought a ticket for the event and the phone. However, I found out recently i cant attend the event, also I made a mistake and added an error in the address I gave. I mailed jolla about this last friday bit so far no reply.
I was with the first batch, but I didn’t get any email yet. I don’t want to be unpatient, If you tell me that’s normal, it’s ok …
I don’t know if Jolla sent out any new emails over the weekend, or if they have focused on putting out the fires caused by the first batch of emails (people forgot to order accessories or to use their discount code in their excitement), but I’m sure we will see ton of new replies from people receiving their emails on monday.
I made that mistake - the email was confusing. It showed first batch price as €499 and the purchase price on the order form as €415 so looked as if the discount had been applied. After seeing the post here I re-entered my order details this time entering the lengthy discount code, which resulted in the discount of €78.88. I have mailed Jolla, I wonder if they will reply ? Or should I just cancel the order. Reminds me of the Amazon default sign up to Amazon Prime. Why should an additional cide have to be entered ? The email was only sent to customers who had purchased the first batch ? I hope we’re not left in the same boat as the M2 purchasers who have been completely abandoned with non functional devices
Maybe the 78€ Discount ist because of the shipping fee. Wuich was about 18€.
I have the impression that the amount varied depending on the country.
If I refer to the VAT rate applicable in France, I paid €79 excluding VAT, or €94.80 including VAT.
Shipping costs are added to the final shopping cart.
It seems perfectly normal to me that the pre-tax price is the reference point, which therefore results in a price difference for each customer. ![]()
Thanks for the replies, they illustrate the confusion. The shipping fee was in addition and paid - €25.90 to UK. VAT and Duties are paid on import - UK is outside of EU. When I filled out the payment form again but this included the longer discount code €78.88 was applied in addition to first discounted price
there is a shop out there that do it all for you: Jolla-Devices
just order a device and you are green to go - I’ve bought two of my last devices from there I recommend 100%…

The last rcs provider other than google quit, rcs is literally google owned now (yay open just like android I guess, cool)
unless I’m missing something, that seems to only be talking about Samsung’s RCS client?
I’m fairly sure that providing RCS services is (supposed to be) the mobile carrier’s job, not the client vendor’s(?); Google’s weird over-the-top solution was just a hack of sorts AFAIK.
though, to be fair, I’d only skimmed the spec, so I might be incorrect.
either way, very sad to see. Google killing AOSP apps and forcing phone vendors to preinstall their revolting, proprietary shitware is making the entire Android ecosystem so homogenized and boring; every phone’s software just looks and feels like the same uninspired slop now.
I’m glad Sailfish & all the other linux projects are around to provide a breath of fresh air from all of it. <3
