Moving the goal posts? You’re referring to something that was so “successful“ that Samsung shut it down already. Samsung could actually afford to try it, conclude that it was just a handful of really loud people and move on to things people actually want or find appealing.

Geez, this phone hasn’t even shipped and you already want them to “do better”?
I haven’t been following the evolution of this project closely, but what exactly about it hasn’t been designed? Is it really the lack of a 3.5mm audio port?
I can only speak for the market I am in (NA), but you would be hard pressed to find a phone with a replaceable battery and expandable storage that is mass produced. A few boutique offerings that cost big $$$ and have pretty mediocre specs, sure.
I guess I can only find positives in this phone, even the dimensions are acceptable and not brick like!
Also, bring on the tablet!!!

The fact that dex was already shut down does kind of prove that the number of people that actually want it or would be interested in it if its being offered is absolutely miniscule.
Don’t forget that all the resources Jolla spends on it will be resources taken away from everything else they’re working on or might want to work on. With a small resource-constrained company like Jolla, trying to replicate dex is actively detrimental to Jolla as a whole. We know there’s only a few incredibly loud people who want it and very few people who’d be interested in it if offered.

It not something weird for a company to start designing the next product once the initial one is released (or mostly done as in this case). And do a better version of it.
Actually its the norm.
Maybe for a company with hundreds or thousands of employees.
The last phone Jolla designed in-house was 13 years ago. They only just got this model booting SFOS 11 days ago… but sure, let’s move onto the next thing!
Maybe let’s sit back and revel in the fact they are releasing another Jolla phone. If it is anything like the first, it will be amazing.

I just want to reply to this part specifically.
I also want them to do better with J3 and maybe even J30 50 years from now!
But I also believe that we should sit back and celebrate for something that we waited for 12 years and we are still a long way from getting it in our hands and experience it getting better with time.
There’s a place and time for everything, and this is the time to get excited and impatient to get the device in our hands

I remember that tablet disaster. It was bad luck mostly, a drama.. And yet…I still wish I could use Sailfish on a tablet.

I agree. Jolla did a poll and published the result. A democratic gesture by Jolla. Jolla as a company takes the risk for this project. Not we. Therefore it is not kind to keep whining if the result was not to one’s liking. It was and will be simply impossible to satisfy everyone.

Yes and no, Id say.
Users also take some risks. 500 to 700€ is non negligible, at an individual point of view.
As users did with Neo900, Jolla tablet and probably many other beautyful-but-not-always-lucky projects.
With the J2, I fully trust Jolla. About what is around Jolla, the rest of the world, let’s see…
But I already see the J2 in my hands…
And me building a TOH…

At the moment it is still 95-99EUR though. But I assume one will have to commit with the full price before it is clear if it will be actually delivered.

Yes and no at the same time.
Not everything is realistic.
But SFOS users and friends are also customers with some expections, wishes and demands and not investors nor devotees.
So a senseful compromise has to be found for the (or better: a) future.
The same way as until now is no option. Period.

In my country you can still go and pay by cash, but if you want to make it faster by bank transfer, yes you need Android or iOS app for ID check and security.
About similar spec phone - yes it won’t have security based OS as Sailfish, but exactly it will be easy daily-drivable. I’m not saying that Jolla should cost the same, I understand that other brands make prices lower by scaling quantities. But 3x higher looks too much. But it’s just my opinion, I can accept if for you it’s a good price.
Bringing SFOS officially to Volla Tablet would be enough…

Also, I can’t believe the original Jolla phone had updates till 2020! I wish my country hadn’t quit on 3G so early, it really was the best of the Gs.
