That is the old XT9-based one and is available only for old Jolla device/SFOS X -license users from time before the C2 release. Jolla lost the old license to sell it as a part of SFOS in the corporate restructuring, and the current owner (Microsoft if I recall correctly) hasn’t sold any new licenses to anyone since acquiring XT9. @rainemak mentioned in the 29.01.2026 community meeting, that Jolla should look into Presage as one of the future options to replace it.
Presage is a good enough solution as replacement for xt9.
Preorder officially closed I want to congratulate all of you and Jolla for such success. I think it was closed at 9837 sales. So almost maximum of 10000 units. For Jolla I think this campaign broke all expectations. And for production order now 1% sold already! Wow I agree with sales this phone looks very good.
I think Jolla made good compromise with production price. In preorder they said the production phone will cost 599 - 699 and now the price is 649 for 8gb ram version. I dont have Sailfish in practice so I dont know if 8gb for it is low, but if you want you can get 12gb version for 699. I think this is good strategy because RAM price are skyhigh and Jolla also needs to have good margin if they want profit and they definitely need money I think. Yes competitor exists like Volla but I dont like Ubuntu and Waydroid and the phone specs also have bad things like bad ultrawide and gimmick macro 2mp. And Jolla was cheaper than Volla for sometime definitely during preorder.
I like fact that Other Half project will also happen in Jolla Phone. This is very good for community and Im sure a lot of people here have very bright ideas about how to hack and do cool stuff with this phone. I am pretty sure you could also do video out using i3c like as last resort if type c video out is not happening, but Im not professor in this field so Ill leave judgment for more savvy people.
Also I want to Linux to be the ambassador of mobile systems. Yes i know its maybe utopia but Android and iOS are very closed and very bad for alot of reasons. I see Linux as the emerging system of computers of today and it has alot of potential.
I think if Jolla delivers with specifications and the operating system experience will be positive even very positive, it will create a strong and good impression on Jolla brand and generate lot of talk about Linux and mobile Linux. Yes i know not the best time to develop phones, but very good time to develop systems because alot of people are talking about Linux because Android is closing down app developement and Windows is integrating AI slop and slowing down system and bugs. Also Valve has Lepton cooking in the background. Waydroid fork. I dont know how their project could help to us users who want to use like banking and stuff but Proton delivered. I hope Lepton will also deliver and make the gap between Linux and Android a smaller problem. But also would be good for developers to also try developing in Linux. But tides sadly dont change that easily for now
I don’t know if there’s a thread where this is discussed, but will there be the option to upgrade to 12GB for us pre-order guys as well? I would happily pay some extra bucks to have a phone that’s more future proof ram-wise.
Edit: Found it, pre-order is always 12GB ![]()
For the next 2 months we will still have people not being sure about this and it’s reasonable to an extend.
The reason is that even the current run for 1000 devices for September is also a pre order campaign. You order from now till May and you get the device in September or later if the first 10K devices are not shipped yet. Even the method with the down payment is the same.
Anyway, batch 1-2-3 from the first campaign gets 12GB ram secured for the price they saw while completing the down payment. No need for any other purchase.
Thanks for your comments and being awake for the milestone moment!
What a great milestone this was!
The first 1000 units production run open for Sep 2026.
On top of the individual pre-orders we have agreed with our channel partner Nordic Source ApS, our Danish partner, that they will subscribe a handful of units.
Can we now start a discussion for a phone (j3) that will not be from a parts bin?
Please stop spamming your niche personal opinions and belittling the project.
Both the present (J2) and future devices should be allowed to be debated, imho.
What do you mean?
If you check specs of android phones the cameras and soc and all, are all used in 2025 and i think they will be used in 2026 too. And yes lpddr4 and ufs 2.2 still used and this year will be used more because RAM prices.
If you mean specs are bad. I understand you. But lets be objective. Jolla Phone price was 499 for 48 hours. Then 549 was for longer time and 579 for long time. Now its 649 but you are regular here in SailfishOS forum I think you saw the phone for 499. So you had choice to buy it for 499. If you check other Linux phones sold now and new their specs you will see its best choice for 499 price. If you check other android phones sold now and new, similar specs cost 200-400. But they are mass market product and big brands have good deals for parts and dont have to invest energy and money into Android development. So Linux phones being abit more cost for now its a problem but not big problem I think.
If you mean it doesnt have priscope telephoto lens or 4k screen, i mean its 499-699 device, not 1499 price device
Absolutely. But let’s stick to this topic in this topic.
That would be nice but suggesting that now, after all former detours, is slightly strange.
Samsung actually has the resources to put into a feature nobody uses. They can afford to throw tons of proverbial spagetti at the wall hoping some of it sticks. The whole mobile phone desktop thing was done years ago and the result was that nobody really wanted it. Hence Jolla has to focus on things more than a dozen loud entitled people want.
Its not about the specs (performance).
Many stuff couldn’t fit on the PCB because its was more or less what they could find and not something designed from scratch.
Until now we had devices that were meant for different OS/use working with sfos by voiding our manufacturer warranty.
I think having an actual Jolla device even if it has many “part bin” parts is more than enough for most of us here.
Dont disagree. The HW issue had to be solved ages ago. But now that things have taken their way with the J2 it will also be good to start thinking about a newer/better device for the os.
I just hope they wont start thinking about a tablet as the next step (cause we all know how this ended last the last time) ![]()
Still, I don’t think there will be a lot of uniquely designed parts even if Jolla releases more devices soon.
Soc, memory, cameras, display, speakers, ports, batteries, these are parts that many devices share already as an example.
TOH is already something they designed I think. So maybe the only thing they could add might be another daughter board for future features? Can’t think about anything else.
Regarding the tablet, I think we can safely assume that no one is trying that anymore ![]()
Ah, moving the goal post, I see.
You are right with some exception.
Convergence topic is not much popular today not because nobody wonts it. Dex project was closed and other implementations are not really usable. Googles implementation is still not ready to use. But yes, dex on galaxy note 9 was really a benefit, because the hardware was also able to perform.
But yes in case Jolla it must not be the key feature now. Just nice to have ![]()
