Jolla Phone update - deliveries started and other next steps

I seriously bought it because it was only 500€ it was cheap if you compare any new high end phones like iPhone are already priced new 2000-3000€, Sony over 2000€ and Samsung 500-3000€. Am little disappointed that camera lacks 4K and HDR since it has Sony 50 megapixel camera but the processor cant handle or produce higher resolution, but for this price it was cheap enough. Maybe in the future model they will manage to improve in these things

@SomethingElse When you ordered the phone on December 6 and made the final payment before 30 April, any hardware issue was unknown. The OH came only in the picture after 10K orders and hardware was not finalized even. Thus now claiming that the device is incomplete is an invalid argument. Jolla is trying to accommodate this to the best they can at the moment. If you need I3C for tinkering, send that e-mail as per request by Jolla with a clear title. If you want a refund, no hard feelings as Jolla stated and if you indicate that in the title of your e-mail Jolla will hopefully have a filter for that. In other words I understand only partly your points. Jolla is a company with maybe 20 people.

I don’t follow this behavior that a small company like Jolla is scrutinized, but Apple/ Google/ MS are not. Are you also this vocal against these companies when something is not to your liking?

I can understand why buyers from the first and second batches want the same phone as everyone else who ordered one.

On the other hand, Jolla comes along and wants us buyers to give a reason why we absolutely need this feature (that’s how I’ve understood it so far).
I don’t find that understandable.

It would really help everyone if they simply didn’t ship those batches and repaired them first.
After all, customers who are missing the white back cover didn’t need to give a reason why they absolutely had to have the white one. The orange back cover does the job just as well.

Just to clarify

When you say
You can now find the downloadable package of ringtones and ambiences with the Jolla Store by seeking for the Jolla Ringtones Project. The songs will be published also soon in the Jolla Store
You seem to be referring to the in phone App - “Jolla Store” rather than the multiple Jolla “Shops” (https://shop.jolla.com/ and https://commerce.jolla.com/ )

and I’m guessing (because I can’t see or find the Ringtones Package in the Store App) that I have to be running Sailfish 5.2 (on the 2026 phone) to find it?

You’re guessing right.

I, for one, DO NOT want to wait for Jolla to change this little thing before I receive my phone. I want them to send it now and then send me the new subboard later, for example with the White TOH.

I do not think they are asking for a valid reason to hold your shipment and replace the subboard. I think they only are asking that those who really want the other subboard to write and tell them.

Like many others I wish to thank you for this great roundup of information.

As a batch 3 purchaser I can say that you have confirmed my understanding and expectations held on the day I originally placed my deposit. Thank you!

Having avidly followed Jolla’s technical and delivery updates over the past 5 months the story was consistant and the news has only heightened my excitement. I have seen a continuity in promises being kept and appreciate the effort put in by the team to achieve that.

Enjoy your summer, you have earned it! :ok_hand::smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

The shipment story is really annyoing. This thread is about the phone and not about shipping extras. If I were a member of jolla I would only ship to the destinations I postet on the website. Other ways only make problems.

Moved the off topic posts.

placed my order based on the specifications shown in the image, and I expect at least this exact configuration. At the time, shipping was scheduled for late June… When someone who trusts you ADVANCES €600 months in advance, I believe they deserve a little consideration. I am one of the very first from batch #2. At this point, I’m just waiting.

:person_shrugging:

But what part do you mean they are not fulfilling?

And this is exactly what you get with more extras. Where is the problem here?
Plus estimated end of first half of the year and you get the phone in July. Where do you see anything wrong with that?

Sometimes I wonder if people are aware of other “enthusiast” phones kickstarters where every month there was an excuse about why it will be delayed, with very few shipments with much worse specs and most customers being ghosted or fed lies for years.

I would prefer spot on delivery times as well, but getting a phone that didn’t exist in December to be delivered barely a few weeks after the very ambitious estimation sounds absolutely amazing to me.
But maybe it’s just me, I don’t know.

You see the “estimated” and the “Minor alterations may apply” don’t you? The time plan has been updated as the project progressed. Shipping has started on the 8th July. A whopping 8 days after that initial estimate. It was never promised that all the phones will ship at that date. Of course that will be a process and it has been for a long time on the store page that the first 3 batches will take a few weeks to ship in full.

So far they are still within the planned time, maybe 1-2 weeks behind at worst. To start complaining at that point already is rather excessive.

PS: Because of all the I3C vs I2C talk, where has that even been promised or specified, that the TOH will feature I3C? I don’t see it anywhere on the shop page, of the Batch 1-3 orders. Indeed, it was not even clear that there would be even any TOH at that point (only at the very end of batch 3 was that even anounced).

For me it is ok also. It will be fixed and thats good. And this is the first self build phone from jolla. It is normal that not everything is 100%. Apple sold the 3 or 4 series with a problem for left handed people because the antenna was not build for this case. There was no replacement for left hand people.

We could start the jolla Journey with an new build phone and an non iOS or android system. It will be experimental in many cases but not less interesting. And yes, we paid money and we deserve a good product. And I think jolla is transparent with a good service. And at this time they could work 24 hours a day to push the new phone. A little patience is not bad. They write history. The windows phone died someday. Sailfish is there for years now. I give it a try. And a few more

Haha true, btw I would still love to read more about the 2012-2013 journey! IIRC they had managed to send all phones in the first half of Dec 2013 (what an exciting Christmas it was!). I wonder how many pre-order there were and how they managed it (knowing that they had an extra challenge: SailfishOS had to be developped entirely!)

I have read everything, even what is circled below in red, I am aware of it. However, I have to recriminate the lack of communication. Many replies here on the forum come from people who do not work for jolla, instead I expect more communication from the staff, instead of receiving replies from other users who defend jolla in any circumstance. Examples of other companies are brought to me, which honestly do not interest me. I can afford to question the shipping time, since I don’t understand why it takes 3 weeks to ship the first batch.

Do you expect that this forum is always manned with Jolla staff, waiting for people to ask Helpdesk-style questions and answering every single one of them like JIRA tickets although the approximate shipping dates & details are already written anywhere (or at least been discussed above, including info from staff)? It is weekend, it is a rather small company (people-wise) but with big impact, we do not have to struggle with fking chatbots, and you already flow over with impatience (having maybe purchased ONE phone)?
Bruh.

They are packaged manually, and the company is small. To ship 2400 items, someone has to package phone + the individual accessories / print shipping label / register in the software: one order every 3 minutes, 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, during the 3 weeks.

Assuming they are already fully tested and flashed.

You tend to overdo it. I don’t expect a helpdesk, but what a forum provides. I took jolla as a company that starts from consumers to design a product, so I imagined more activity by the staff here, obviously wrong. I don’t even expect them to respond over the weekend, I haven’t written anywhere that I’m in a hurry to get answers. I have expressed perplexity about the shipping times, but I note that nothing can be said that “questions” the work of jolla that someone comes to replicate something that does not even respond to what is asked but only to accuse of making inappropriate requests. I’ll end here, we’re not going anywhere anyway. I only evaluate answers to my perplexities from users who have the right to answer, the others I consider useless comments and ends in themselves.
