Seems like pre-order pace is slowing down significantly. Maybe there should be something done to accelerate this?

I’ve seen quite a few people on social media saying they are holding off till they know what the SoC is, and its close to Christmas so people may just be short of money right now.

Yes, even it it does not slow down any further, at the current daily rate we won’t make it to 10k by January 31. Bye TOH

I don’t know for other places but in mine, people have started travelling across country to gather with their their families, are sending kids to pre-Christmas church service, preparing the house, preparing Christmas eve dinner, preparing Christmas day lunch, preparing Christmas presents. Same will happen with New Year. The pre-order pace might return to previous values after that.

Put TOH aside, hope it reaches to 7k. I heard it’s the profitable threshold…

I have to say this isn’t handled at its best. Jolla is marketing TOH on the forum, where it won’t bring new customers. The people who are currently pre-ordering coming from tech blogs have no idea what TOH is, and no idea it will exist again if 10k pre-orders are reached.

Even if they learn about TOH, this isn’t going to help as people who are interested in certain TOH attachments won’t commit to a 500 € phone with the remote perspective that maybe, if another 4000 people pre-order the phone, TOH might exist, and if nobody else purchases, they get a phone that is not what they wanted.

What would help is if @Jolla could:

  1. Spend again 2500 € to announce the first TOH they want to make on their usual media.
  2. Make tied refundable pre-orders for both, e.g. 150 € if you pre-order phone+TOH, refundable on request if TOH isn’t made in the end.

It’s a good idea ! Even if the return of TOH to 10k is, for me, only an announcement effect to boost sales.
A promotional campaign could help in this sense, even if, in my opinion, the end of December-January period is not conducive to sales… the end-of-year holidays having been there…

@naokysatoh : I seem to understand that 7k is not the pre-order threshold, but the sales threshold for the company to be profitable.
Sales expected to continue after the pre-order period
I hope it is in this direction!

That’s correct. I really hope they can gain some profit by J2 so can invest more resources to SFOS development etc.

If TOH kills NFC like it did in JP-1301 then i think most users much rather have NFC than TOH.

I would guess that most users never used TOH at all with the first phone but i do think many have a need of working NFC since it’s something that is needed for cars, banks, access and so on.

My point is NFC is useful while TOH is more of a gimmick.

Do the new Jolla phone support Ultra Wideband (UWB) in hardware?

Was that mentioned anywhere or it’s a guess?
Cause I find that hard to believe.

The number 7k was quoted on the forum from an interview with Jolla in the Finnish press. I cannot find the link at the moment.

The source

I can’t read that article but an AI summary says that the number is in the context of the first Jolla phone in 2013 but i haven’t read the article since it’s behind a paywall.

I have access to the ts.fi article, but I won’t paste the whole article as it is behind a paywall for a reason. Below is still the most relevant part ran through google translate:

“Last year, Jolla acquired new production facilities from IoT Campus with the intention of handling the final manufacturing of the Mind2 artificial intelligence computer in Salo. Now the final assembly of smartphones takes place in the same facilities. According to Saarnio, at least initially, production will not be continuous, but Jolla will sell and deliver phones in batches.

Manufacturing the new phone will not require recruitment in Salo, but pre-sales volumes can be made with Jolla’s current number of personnel. Jolla has been able to pre-order the Phone for 99 euros. The first batch of 2,000 phones was sold in less than 48 hours.

Jolla opened a new batch of 2,000 phones, which was also exceeded on Wednesday.

“We estimate the additional recruitment volume according to the demand situation,” Saarnio says.

According to him, profitable operations require approximately 7,000 phone orders. According to Saarnio, Jolla is approaching that at a good pace.”
