Jolla Phone Pre-order campaign has started

Most phones use the earpiece as a second speaker though.

Very important, and a deal breaker for me. This is enough for me to not use android.

But even more important to me, is the intuitiveness. I’ve used android before, standard roms, custom roms, they all feel very, very frustrating to me, to the point that I’d leave my phone at home just to not feel the frustration of android through the day.
Apple devices are expensive, but it gets ludicrous as soon as you choose something better than the standard configuration. And then, when you do need more storage, the only solution is to buy new for even more ludicrous prices, or use their cloud solution, that of course doesn’t work on my computer.

I’m using linux on my desktop and laptop exclusively for 12 or 13 years now, and I like it my phone is also linux. It is recognizable. Security and privacy are very important and deal breakers for me, but this specific OS, SFOS, with all its quirks and bugs and annoyances, well, I just really like it. That’s what sets it apart for me.

Please support all countries (Australia in my case) that you did for tablet. As well as emergency calls on volte.

I would once again like to be using sailfish.

I must say, I am a bit worried with RAM prices and supply issues. RAM prices more than doubled in the last few weeks, and availability is next to none. No normalisation to be expected until 2027. This won’t be easy, I fear.

Valid concern but IMO, if it ends up with, lets say 8G instead of the projected 12 so what.

I’d honestly be fine with Jolla decreasing the RAM from 12GB to 8GB, but that ship has sailed

I’m not sure where you get that information about that the prices will be haussed until 2027. It’s 6 months until mass production and until then the prices can just as well go down again. Also, the Asian manufacturers will not do what Micron just did and supply to all customers just as before as well as internal reallocations might increase LPDDR availability.

Some of those, namely apple’s usb-c to 3.5mm dongle, work as an external dacamp, and they work on anything with OTG (i use one in my laptop)

except they were using i²c and not bluetooth…

That won’t happen ever. How many times did we mention qt update? And you’re not doing anything towards that. Nobody is gonna return due to sfos half-openess and old ass qt + nobody new is gonna join because of sfos’s half-openess and old ass qt because there are now other options that are fully opensource and not as out of date as debian stable.

You’ve achieved your goal, congratulations, you had community centred about sfos and potential to become mainstream and you managed to fracture it and made it impossible for sfos, or any other alternative mobile os, to ever become mainstream. You waste your efforts on trash-tier xperias which show time and time again that adaptations for them just do not work no matter how much developer time you throw at them but you waste developer time anyway instead of doing stuff that actually matters like opensourcing and updating qt.

Congratulations on your plan to destroy sfos. Nobody could’ve done it better. Just the fact that we talk about qt5.6 in 2025 is proof, and joke enough.

There’s an “I’m interested in this phone outside of the EU/Norway/etc” field to enter email address at the bottom of the product page – fill it out like me so they see it and gauge interest in the rest of the world.

hmm theres no mention of qt either; if this would be to be taken by your words, jolla might have switched away from qt for all we know /ducks.

This is why I had to send the C2 back. I.c.w. hearing aids the sound was intolerable. So yes, better speakers are crucial to some. I hope Jolla will focus on a better sound quality.

That’s true. In modern phones there are certain technical limitations that influence decisions (e.g. screen size, 3,5 jack). With so many wishes and opinions it is impossible to create a device to everyone’s liking.

it’s a valid point about QT.

i expect Jolla to solve the software side of the SFOS problem every bit as much as i want new hardware to run it from.

Expecting 2000 preorders today (keeping fingers crossed) I wonder whether @Jolla should define a stretch goal - like a second, different colour back if 5000 preorders are reached and a bumper and screen protector if 10.000 are reached

seriously, I hope the campaign keeps it’s pace

I’m still hesitating to order, since specs don’t tell about the IP-class. I need to have sufficient protection from water and dust. I want a daily driver, not some precious and fragile hardware from yesteryear.

A high IP class and removable back appear mutual exclusive to me …

So it’s a trade-off

No, read the specs.

All phones since at least like 8 years has had the capability to run USB accessories. I don’t even think it is called OTG any more with USB-C.

That’s not at all what the text says.

Well Nokia had a little bit different kind of resources someone could argue
