MMS from Telia to Elisa and vice versa (Finland) on J2026 works just fine. I don’t know how different it’s few hundred kilometres west from here in Sweden. Have you switched the SIM cards to different slots? About your Wifi sharing issues, this depends on the OS…(perhaps also on your providers Tre or Telenor) most likely also on the password you have set up. For me there are no issues using J2026 as hotspot under Linux. I have not tried Windows yet but suppose it would be working as well.
That actually brings me to a fun idea. Do you perhaps now this set of developer memes that were floating around the internet few years back ?
Idk if there was some kind of contest for the most unintuitive UI possible but there was a showcase of a few completely horrible UI element concepts. Stuff like phone number picker where you had to find your phone number in the decimal digits of the Pi. Or volume slider that you had to tilt and select your volume level based on “gravity” and dumb stuff like that.
Would be extremely cool use of one’s free will to make these.
That sounds great, let’s never do that! ![]()
I received my Jolla earlier this week. After having used a Sony 10II for the last four years my first impression was that it’s quite large and quite hefty, but I got used to that very quickly and for the rest the experience has been very smooth! It’s surprisingly satisfying to see the Jolla logo on startup ![]()
Migrating Signal and some smaller apps turned out to be straightforward. Only Contacts is missing half of my CardDAV folders (that were working on my Sony) but I have yet to try to fix that. Other than that most things just work. Apps start quicker than ever and scrolling is smooth. The screen is amazing and its brightness and colours make the Sony look like a toy.
If I have to nitpick I would have wished for slightly better speakers, but so far this is the most exciting device I have owned since I had to replace my beloved N9 in 2014!
So, soon we will have pro-left-to-right-diagonal and pro-right-to-left-diagonal people!
I suggest pocket volume mode, i.e. no visual on home screen, only in top menu if you want the sliders there. Volume rocker works as input for audio in all scenarios with components in focus.
I have a quick question for those who have installed the glass screen protector: how much thickness does it add, and does it interfere with the edge swipe gestures?
The one I have on my Sony has a really rough edge and I had to adjust the edge swipe threshold to make the gestures work again, so I figured I’d ask before I ‘ruin’ my Jolla phone ![]()
I tried the other SIM spot but same issue, I can’t download or send MMS on my Jolla 2026. I tried with and without text - same result, just a endless spinner that ends in a error
Reminds me the Rashi/RabbeinuTam mezuzah dispute ![]()
Check if changing maximum message size in settings->apps->messages to medium or small maybe helps
I tried that now but that did not help, same issue remains
No problem with gestures on the screen edge. If you also have the protective cover you don’t even notice
I have the screen protector and it depends. Its not like one one of those premium glass protectors with rounded edges. Yeah its sharp and it interferers with the edge swipe gestures.
However i am also using the jolla silicone case for the phone and the case wraps the phone in a way to protect the display a bit, cases edges ,or how to call it, are taller than the display. And this creates like 1 or 2 mm gap between the edge of the glass protector and the edge of the case. Your finger won’t go there and because of the case your edge swipes will already start on the glass automatically without feeling the sharp edge of it. You will kinda bump to the case with your finger a bit tho so its still not as pleasant as not having anything on your phone but it still feels better than just the protective glass by itself.
So, here we go after running the Jolla 2026 over the last week.
Strangely enough, a few of the issues have carried over from the C2:-
For example- Weak signal strength, only showing 1 or 2 bars mostly. I get a slightly better signal strength on 5G, but that’s still a bit patchy in my area.
Also, a quick question about this 5G. Do we need to have 4GVoLTE enabled when on 5G?
Otherwise I find the phone to be performing very well.
Mobile network fails to register when restarting the phone. I have to go to Utilities and Restart Mobile Network Subsystem.
I’ve had one or two instances where Android apps don’t start until I stop and start App Support.
I might visit the 3 store and try a new SIM
The Jolla Phone’s AMOLED display seems poorly calibrated. The sharpness looks way too high, almost like someone cranked up the clarity in photo-editing software. The Xperia 10 III looks a lot nicer. Is this just a lower-quality screen whose flaws I’ll have to live with, or is it simply a software calibration issue? Also, the colors are very saturated and too cool. I hope Jolla adds an option to adjust these settings manually.
writing my first impressions after a day of active use
the good:
- i love love love the design and the build of the phone! it reminds me so much of Nokia Lumias and the N9 that I unfortunately never had a chance to have. i don’t even mind the notch that much. the size and weight are perfect and the device doesn’t feel cheap at all. white TOH is so beautiful. I’m gonna try the orange one too once i get bored
- glass screen protector application was unbelievably easy and the protector itself seems very high quality, but we’ll see how it ages
- things work! since I’ve been lurking the forum for quite some time I managed to find and set up things pretty easily, and the basic native apps and all of my essential daily apps work without any issues (spotify, banking, government, signal, proton pass, ente, etc). phone calls, music playback (with the apple 3.5mm adapter) also work. not a high bar, but still feels surreal considering this is a device made by such a small team
- community apps. heartfelt thank you to the people behind futo keyboard, fahrplan, fernschreiber, rawfish, tailwind and all other apps that make this phone way more usable as an everyday device
- sailfish os. i love the philosophy of it and the fact that it exists and keeps evolving. the gestures are getting better the more I’m getting used to them
the (subjectively) not so good:
-
I find the default font way too thin to be comfortable, maybe it’s a matter of getting used to it but I just changed it to nokia pure. that made the lock screen look like something straight out of 2010 though

-
having to press the power button before unlocking the device with the fingerprint makes the experience feel clunky
the bad:
-
the display. I’m coming from using top of the line iPhones and flagship Android devices so I knew not to expect anything on the same level, but lack of color management and everything being too saturated, plus the weird oversharpening effect are really unfortunate. i hope that gets fixed soon. even more annoyingly it feels like there is some sort of input lag or rendering delay, so I feel like i have to wait for the screen to react. it’s especially noticeable when typing quickly
-
the built in browser. enough has been said about that already, but I’m really happy to see progress. also for some reason despite the fact that I changed the default search engine to Kagi, it still sends me to Ecosia when I search for things through the search bar
-
while wired earbuds work, I had some audio quality issues that only got resolved after rebooting, not a big deal, but also the maximum volume is quite low compared to my android phone with the same adapter
-
I hope more apps get updated to take the notch into account
-
when my friend called me she had echo on her side. I hope it was just a one off issue
-
while I’m very grateful for the extensive collection of third party apps made by people for free in their spare time, a lot of them unfortunately suffer from the programmer-designed UI syndrome
the ugly:
-
vibration motor. I know I’m spoiled with fancy haptic engines in modern flagships but man this thing is bad
-
the camera. again I somewhat knew what to expect, and rawfish makes things a lot better, but there is still a long way to go. I love the digicam look RAW shots taken in rawfish have though!
-
the standard emojis. I’m sorry but they’re horrible

Does this happen with or without the apple 3.5mm adaptor connected?
without, i was calling her through the regular speaker (not loudspeaker). i forgot the correct term for it
I would like to briefly report here about my experiences with the new Jolla Phone. My claim is to make this device a privacy-friendly smartphone permanently. Since civil rights organizations are unlikely to be able to prevent that the EU establishes mass surveillance of its citizens without cause, I unfortunately do not see other option than to realize this with the Jolla Phone. In addition, I don’t want to be a forced advertising customer and also not be monitored around the clock and the to have to accept complete loss of my privacy when I have the next SupaDupaMega smartphone for 2000€. Crazy world!
A few days ago my batch#2 Jolla Phone arrived and I was thinking about migrating apps and data.
Many apps from the Aurora Store work well, some I also got from the F-Droid Store. The device itself is neither dust nor waterproof, but it fits well in the hand, has a pleasing slim-looking design and can certainly be expanded very creatively with the TOH It offers an excellent screen, but unfortunately it lacks a suitable color profile for screens. and colors and brightness values alternate wildly and lead to irritation. The camera and its operation is also anything but a highlight. With Open Camera, it doesn’t get any better. Since I’ve been a photographer for many years, I naturally have an eye on it, because I work with e.g. my old phone have a 64MPixel Sony sensor and have actually adjusted to it, with the Sony sensor of the JP you can get good quality photos even with a lower resolution.
But that’s only in passing.
It is more important to mention that apps with special security features cannot be easily operated via app support with functionalities from SFOS. For example, the Bluetooth service does not work optimally or not at all. One of my banks uses a Procedure for verifying device access to the account system, which allows me to use a QR code and Bluetooth can perform such verification with an app on another Android system. Unfortunately, this does not work.
The fingerprint service also does not work with App Support. So I have to remember a 5-digit app pin, which is not a good convenience and is actually an expected service. Also, I can’t register multiple fingers. And a few other things.
So there are still a few open construction sites, but I expect them to work in a few (or a few more) weeks.
Sure, it’s always an argument that you should break away from habits more, but some things are just standard.
Therefore, the JP 2026 is not yet a full-fledged Daily Phone. Because I also need my old Android for certain functions.
I wouldn’t have invested that much money if I wasn’t convinced that it was well invested with Jolla and the community.
The work done so far is fantastic and has realized a great product that will certainly appeal to many more customers.
Keep on the good work!

Clunky indeed (it used to be necessary to work around a bug in an earlier device), but instead of pressing the button, you can also:
- double-tap the screen and then touch the fingerprint reader
- just touch (don’t press) the fingerprint reader twice
If the call went through 2G, it’s probably a known issue (that’s being fixed).
Give Rawfish a try!
Pretty sure you can register up to five different fingerprints in Settings. Do you get some kind of error message when trying to add more?
Well, yes, but keeping in mind it is not finished yet.
Ymmv on the UX, and depending on what one needs, for the time being.
